There is such a media blitz, especially toward the elderly, to have annual flu shots; yet there is very little evidence that they are effective. In an article entitled The Flu Vaccine Myth, Croft Woodruff presents the case that flu vaccines may actually increase the risk of developing neurological pathologies:
... according to Hugh Fudenberg, md, ... If an individual has had five flu shots between 1970 and 1980 (the years studied) her chances of getting Alzheimer's Disease is 10 times higher than if she had one, two or no shots. |

You don't have to be a victim
Regardless of what the next outbreak looks like, there will be millions of people whose lives are protected because they are able to get the right herb, the right mineral, the right vitamin, the right strategy for surviving those viral epidemics. flu shots won't save you. In fact, as you'll see here, flu shots may harm you by weakening your defense against the bird flu. It's a contentious idea, and hotly debated by the medical community. |
| Here's what you need to know:
What some doctors say about flu shots
Talking about everyday flu strains and vaccinations, the Health Sciences Institute says, "Even flu shots can't adequately protect you. New and increasingly dangerous strains of the flu appear each year, circling the globe with astonishing speed. Your only defense is a strong immune system."
Likewise, Dr. Haim Danenberg of Hadassah University Hospital in Jerusalem says, "Subjects who have been given repeated flu vaccines had lower antibody levels against three major strains of flu than those who were not vaccinated. |

The CDC reports this side effect to be "rare, perhaps 1 or 2 per million flu shots given." Using the numbers determined from a variety of sources—including medical journals and government documents, it can reasonably be assumed that the flu shot may cause 40 cases of GBS per year.
The Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP) database reveals that the average hospital charge per person for GBS is nearly $70,000. Add another $40,000 per person for rehabilitation costs after months of paralysis. |

In October 2004, CDC representatives announced their recommendation that children aged 6 months to 23 months should receive flu shots (which contain thimerosal) as part of the standard schedule of immunizations. Steve Cochi, the acting director of the National Immunization Program, underlined the CDC's official view of the vaccine-autism connection, citing a "lack of scientific evidence." This comes at a time when CDC officials were more than once made aware of the large body of scientific evidence that supports the vaccine-autism link. |

With all of this hype and propaganda surrounding flu shots, and the evening news telling people to rush out and get a flu shot, and doctors urging people to get shots to save themselves from the flu, it turns out that when it's all held up to some good hard science, flu shots only give you a one percent lower chance of getting the flu after all.
Is all of that trouble and worry really worth a one percent reduction in the risk of getting the flu, especially if it makes you weaker the following year? |

An increasing number of reports indicate that adults who regularly receive flu shots suffer a worsening of high blood pressure, diabetes, gout, and Parkinson's disease as well as an increase in all kinds of allergic complaints. In 1976 an extensive flu vaccination program in America led to a massive outbreak of Guillain-Barre syndrome, a disease affecting the nervous system. The outbreak, known as the "Great Swine Flue Fiasco," paralyzed 656 people and 30 elderly persons were found dead within hours after they were vaccinated. |

Once you have been infected by a particular strain of flu you become immune to it. flu shots are designed yearly to fight the flu bug that is prevalent in a particular year, so immunization is necessary on an annual basis. Influenza is spread through sneezing and coughing, when water droplets carrying the virus become airborne and are breathed in by others. It is also passed on through the spread of germs due to poor hand-washing hygiene. |

And are they any better at delivering the treatments that are considered the most effective—a prescription for heart attack patients to take an aspirin a day, for instance, and flu shots? Are they making sure their female patients get regular Pap smears, and do they take steps to ensure that surgical patients don't contract infections? Physicians and hospitals are so wedded to the notion that more dollars buy better care that despite thirty years of data, the Dartmouth group's findings had gained only grudging acceptance. |

Thimerosal is still in some flu shots, and it's a hotly contested debate in political and medical circles. Other additives common in vaccines include aluminum, formaldehyde, monosodium glutamate (MSG), sulfites, and the antifreeze ingredient ethylene glycol. Each of these chemicals has been linked to a host of health issues, from ADHD to brain, cardiovascular, and metabolic disorders.
Throughout this book, and in particular chapters 9 and 10, you will learn about similar associations between toxins and disease. Many might surprise you, as will the truth to where poisons can loiter. |

The belief that vaccinations, like flu shots, have eliminated death from infectious disease in the twentieth century is widespread. In fact, much of the reduction in death from infectious disease is due to public-health measures, including improved nutrition and sanitation. And vaccinations are not without potential danger. We still don't know the potential long-term effects of vaccination.
An oft-repeated fact is that 36,000 people die each year from the flu. The government urges citizens to get vaccinated, presumably to prevent these deaths. |

In the past few years there has been mounting concern over bird flu. Are we all about to succumb to a global bird flu pandemic? Not likely. Bird flu is transmitted from birds to birds, not birds to people. Only in extremely rare instances have humans become infected with the bird flu, and there is no reason to believe that that will change.
Should we take drugs to prevent getting the bird flu? No. |

If an individual has had five flu shots between 1970 and 1980 (the years studied) her chances of getting Alzheimer's Disease is 10 times higher than if she had one, two or no shots. When asked why this was so, Fudenberg said it was due to the mercury and aluminum that is in every flu shot (and most childhood shots). The gradual mercury and aluminum buildup in the brain causes cognitive dysfunction. Is this why the number of those suffering from Alzheimer's is expected to quadruple? |

Recently the CDC recommended lowering the age for yearly flu shots from age sixty-five to fifty-five and some pediatricians are now recommending flu shots for small children. All of these vaccines contain the mercury-containing thimerosal preservative, and small children and elderly people are the two most vulnerable age groups to mercury toxicity!
It is not a good idea to keep mercury thermometers around the house, as accidental breakage can wreak havoc. It may be hard to believe that such a small volume of mercury can cause a major catastrophe, but it absolutely can. |

That's because every individual patient record goes into a database, which allows the VHA to monitor not only what happens to patients, whether treatments such as flu shots are being delivered, and how long they spend on average in an ICU bed, but also how these factors affect their health. Here's an example. In 2003, in a paper in the New England Journal of Medicine, VA quality control officers reported on the effect of Kizer's effort to cut the number of hospital beds between 1997 and 1999. The quality officers found that the number of days patients spent in a hospital bed went down by half. |

The yearly-administered flu shots repeatedly burden the immune system and cells of the body with foreign toxic material without giving them a chance to remove them again. The toxic viral particles can remain latent in the cells and gallstones for as long as 20 years; when they emerge, they can cause serious cell damage. With each new vaccination the immune system becomes more and more restricted in its effort to neutralize the live virus that suddenly appears in the blood. |

| Deaths from flu are increasing in spite of flu shots. The flu can be deadly. According to government statistics, P&l (pneumonia and influenza) deaths are among the top 10 causes of death in the elderly. And wouldn't it be wonderful if flu shots were the magic bullet they're made out to be? But according to statistics released by the Centers for Disease Control, the P&l death rate has increased 59 percent since 1979. |

And although thimerosal has been phased out of childhood vaccines, the vast majority of flu shots given to children and adults still contain it, and it is believed that many pediatricians are still using unexpired vials of thimerosal-containing vaccines.32

This information also applies to leptin-resistant adults given flu shots. Once again, we find that public-health officials do not keep up with the current, available science and act on it in a proactive manner. Their focus seems to be on immunizing everyone, not on proving that immunizations are safe or figuring out who might be at risk for serious nerve damage from immunizations.
We learned in chapter 8 that when there is low leptin in the brain, either due to generally low leptin or to leptin resistance, the brain is much more likely to experience nerve damage. |

Possibly people using Protocel should even avoid flu shots, since most flu vaccinations contain dangerous amounts of mercury.
Unfortunately, because the Protocel formula has been opposed by the ACS, FDA, and NCI in the past, no formal studies have been done on it to provide us with any sort of official statistics. But even so, many people are choosing to assess Protocel's success by investigating numerous real-life stories from people who have used it. |

The existence of viral and bacterial strains is the reason why annual flu shots are necessary, and why some E. coli are deadly and some benign. The slight variations in the genome are too small to turn the pathogen into a different species, but they are sufficient to alter some of its characteristics.
Almost as soon as Prusiner announced his prion hypothesis, critics pointed out that the protein-only concept couldn't explain the presence of strains of transmissible spongiform encephalopathies. |

This frightening fact became quite evident this year with the shortage of flu shots in the United States. But it was also true in past flu pandemics such as the outbreak of 1918 which killed a startling 40 to 50 million people around the world, according to the World Health Organization. And that was at a time when the global population was much lower than it is today. Population density was also lower, and it was extremely difficult for people to travel from one region to the next. Even though, as many as 50 million people were killed by a single strain of the influenza virus. |
