That means when you purchase a subscription to HSI right now, you'll not only be getting what I consider to be the top nutritional discovery newsletter in the business, you'll also be supporting our Nutrition For expectant mothers program that aims to deliver honest nutritional reference guides to one million expectant mothers over the next few years. It's an important program, and it's not often that you can help others while helping yourself at the same time, but this is certainly one of those opportunities.

It would be tempting to assume that there is an obvious, behavior-related explanation for this—higher stress made it harder for some expectant mothers to take care of themselves. It is tempting to accept this except for one thing—the rise in miscarriages only affected male fetuses. In California, in October and November 2001, there was a 25 percent increase in the rate of male miscarriages. Something— and we don't know what—in the mother's epigenetic or genetic architecture sensed that she was carrying a boy and triggered a miscarriage.

No one should consume it, and children or expectant mothers should avoid it like a poison.) Also reported by CSPI: Among those who today called on FDA Commissioner Andrew von Eschenbach to review the new aspartame study are former Occupational Safety and Health Administration officials John Froines (now at UCLA) and Peter F. Infante (now at George Washington University); James Huff, current Associate Director for Chemical Carcinogenesis at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS); and Kamal M. Abdo, a toxicologist formerly at the National Toxicology Program of the NIEHS.

Consuming it causes migraine headaches, endocrine system damage, loss of appetite regulation (leading to obesity), neurological damage in fetuses (when consumed by expectant mothers) and many other problems. This is well known throughout the industry. Baby food manufacturers, for example, voluntarily removed MSG from their products decades ago following a public outcry about the dangers of MSG to babies and infants.

The scourge of modern medicine continues as corrupt, ignorant and downright incompetent doctors continue to harm millions of expectant mothers, infants, babies and children with their deadly Big Pharma chemicals and disastrous health advice. The reputation of doctors plummets in the minds of the American public, and most patients now turn to the Internet to find answers that their doctors either don't know or refuse to tell them. The mass exodus of patients away from conventional medicine is now well underway...

Transdermal Magnesium Therapy

It is so sad that despite all the evidence and the absolute ease with which the public could have their magnesium needs met, we do not even help the babies and expectant mothers. When we do find magnesium used correctly, i.e., when magnesium sulfate is routinely given intravenously to halt pre-term labor or prevent convulsions in women with pregnancy-induced hypertension (eclampsia) we see clear results. In 1987, Dutch researchers found magnesium prevents hemorrhaging in the brains of infants whose mothers have this form of hypertension.

And when expectant mothers are deficient in brain-supporting nutrients, guess what happens to the IQs of their children? Three reasons to avoid red meat This brings me to the third reason why I don't eat meat from mammals, by the way. The first reason is because excessive red meat consumption is bad for your health. The second reason is because it's inhumane to kill mammals for their meat.

Spark: The Revolutionary New Science of Exercise and the Brain

Many expectant mothers don't have a clear idea of what they can do, and they think in terms of avoiding rather than engaging. If they understood the benefits of exercise—not only in reducing pregnancy risks but also in improving their physical and mental health and that of their babies—then they'd feel much more comfortable being active. The truth is we don't have all the answers about the effects of exercise on pregnancy, but we do have some good ones.

Why isn't the FDA joining Health Canada and the other countries in banning the placement [of mercury fillings] in expectant mothers?" he asks. "FDA silence over mercury is the same kind of silence our government once had for tobacco." Still, any ban could have consequences. A study by dentist Howard Bailit and colleagues at the University of Connecticut found that a ban on amalgam fillings would raise costs, cut down on the number of cavities filled and hurt the oral health of most Americans. . - To learn more about amalgam fillings, vis-— it the Web site of International Health News at www.

Essentially, one or more of the compounds in the vitamin supplements fed to the expectant mothers reached down into the mouse embryos and nicked the agouti gene into the "off" position. When the baby mice were born, their DNA still contained the agouti gene, but it wasn't expressed—chemicals had attached to the gene and suppressed its instructions. This process of genetic suppression is called DNA methylation. Methylation occurs when a compound called a methyl group binds to a gene and changes the way that gene expresses itself, without actually changing the DNA.
The mice in the experimental group mated as well, but the expectant mothers in this group got slightly better prenatal care— in addition to their normal diet, they were given vitamin supplements. In fact, they were given a combination of compounds that is a variation on the prenatal vitamins given to pregnant women today—vitamin B12, folic acid, betaine, and choline. The results rocked the genetic world. Fat yellow female mice that had mated with fat yellow male mice had thin brown babies. That seemed to throw everything the scientific community understood about heredity up in the air.
In the United States, it occurs in as much as 4 percent of pregnant women—some 100,000 expectant mothers a year. It can also lead to a condition in the newborn called macrosomia—which is a fancy term for "really chubby baby" as all the extra sugar in the mother's bloodstream makes its way across the placenta and feeds the fetus. Some researchers think this type of diabetes may be "intentionally" triggered by a hungry fetus looking for Mommy to stock the buffet table with sugary glucose. So what causes diabetes? The truth is, we don't fully understand.

Complications and Outcomes of Pregnancy The World Health Organization (WHO) conducted a randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind trial in an attempt to clarify whether calcium supplementation in expectant mothers with a deficiency of the mineral reduced rates of preeclampsia and preterm delivery. Women who enrolled prior to gestational week 20 were randomized to treatment with 1.5 mg/day calcium (n=4151) or placebo (n=4161) throughout the remainder of pregnancy.

Another supplement that has been used by expectant mothers for many years is sold under the brand name "Floradix," The supplement itself is called "Floravital Iron + Herbs," and it's a liquid extract. It contains iron plus herbs—and iron is, of course, essential for expectant mothers, especially during the second trimester. I know someone who was recently pregnant who used good nutritional supplementation, combined with the consumption of iron, and experienced no morning sickness whatsoever.
Many nutritional supplements available are designed specifically for expectant mothers. New Chapter, Inc. calls one of them Perfect Prenatal. You can find more information at www.NewChapter.info. One of the primary projects for the non-profit will be our NFEM program: Nutrition For expectant mothers. It's designed to teach expecting moms how to nourish their babies to maximize their health and avoid birth defects. Since virtually nobody in the conventional medical industry has bothered to tell mothers the truth about nutrition, we thought it was time that an energetic, compassionate non-profit got the job done. We'll use donations to hire a project manager who can coordinate the educational efforts with birth centers around the country.

STUDY #1: VITAMIN D In one study, expectant mothers who took high doses of vitamin D reduced their child's risk for asthma. Vitamin D deficiency is common in areas where asthma is also widespread, raising the suspicion that the two are connected, says Dr. Carlos Camargo, senior author of the study and an associate professor of medicine and epidemiology at Harvard Medical School in Boston. Camargo and his team followed 1,300 mother-child pairs for more than three years.

Alli weight loss drug has disgusting side effects and may block fat-soluble vitamins

Mike Adams, the Health Ranger

Vitamin D and other fat-soluble nutrients are absolutely crucial for human health, especially the health of expectant mothers, newborns and senior citizens. These are nutrients that we cannot live healthfully without. So what could possibly be the FDA review panel's motivation in approving this drug that has almost no perceived benefit? It causes merely one pound of weight loss a month (and that's if you actually believe the clinical trials), yet it creates considerable health risks to those who take the drug.

The Cure Con: how you're being deceived by charities that claim to be racing for the cure for cancer and other chronic diseases

Mike Adams, the Health Ranger

Let's run around in circles and raise money to give nutrition to expectant mothers, so they can give birth to children who are not predisposed to diabetes, depression, aggressive behavior, cancer, and the other diseases that happen when pregnant women are malnourished. I say we have a race for the prevention of disease, but we'll probably never see that. Prevention is not profitable. When there's a race for the cure, the money raised goes into the hands of someone who's making a tidy profit conducting laboratory research or drug testing for various diseases.

Why organized medicine wants to outlaw nutrition and turn healers into criminals

Mike Adams, the Health Ranger
See article keywords and concepts
We could start by teaching expectant mothers how to have good nutrition so that they give birth to healthy babies with healthy nervous systems, babies who aren't born predisposed to diabetes, schizophrenia, or other disorders. From there we can teach our nation's youth how to make healthier food choices. While we're on a roll, why don't we take all the disease causing foods out of our school lunch programs. Why don't we ban fast food restaurants from hospitals. Let's put some healthy foods in people's mouths.

Everyday groceries contain ingredients that cause heart disease, diabetes, cancer, osteoporosis and other chronic diseases

And if we told Americans the truth about their foods -- if we gave them honest nutritional advice and dietary advice -- we would help people make better decisions that would eliminate chronic disease in their own life, and, for expectant mothers, allow them to give birth to children without birth defects. We need honest food labeling and we need to outlaw toxic ingredients like aspartame, monosodium glutamate, food additives and chemical preservatives like sodium nitrite that directly cause cancers of the digestive tract.

The health dangers of trans fats have been known for decades, yet food companies still poison customers with hydrogenated oils

Mike Adams, the Health Ranger

The dark side of food corporations The big question that comes to mind, then, is: "Would for-profit corporations really allow toxic food ingredients to be routinely used in their foods where they will poison expectant mothers, newborns, children, adults and seniors?" The answer is obvious. Of course they would. Why? Because profits and power are simply more important to them than the health of the public. When it comes down to a decision between doing what is right and doing what is profitable, food and beverage corporations will choose the profits every time.
