Because sugars and refined carbohydrates can produce both cravings and withdrawal-like symptoms, they may form a parallel addiction that encourages alcohol abuse. My dietary recommendations, described in chapter 5, are to eat a protein- and vegetable-rich diet that's low in carbohydrates and sugars. In addition, avoid sugary soft drinks, snacks, and desserts.
