She made this disclosure in a letter to The New England Journal of Medicine in which she argued that a group of German researchers had been wrong to conclude in their clinical trial that Pfizer's medicine Lipitor did not help diabetic patients who were on dialysis. In the German study, fewer diabetic patients taking Lipitor had heart attacks or died from heart disease, but more of them died from stroke than those who had taken sugar pills. Dr. Robinson argued that the researchers should have looked only at the heart disease data and ignored the slightly higher death rate from stroke. |

The mechanism of hypomagnesemia in diabetic patients still remains unsolved. However, there is enough evidence to suggest that magnesium levels drop in the course of recovery from ketoacidosis, during insulin therapy4 or with severe retinopathy5 or proteinuria.6
Diabetic patients, especially those with poor glucose control, can also develop hypomagnesemia from a glucose-induced osmotic diuresis. |

One small study of diabetic patients using the sweetener showed a statistically significant increase in glycosylated hemoglobin (HgbAlc), which is a marker of long-term blood glucose levels. According to the FDA, increases in glycosylation in hemoglobin reduces control of diabetes.
Research with animals has shown that sucralose can cause many problems in rats, mice, and rabbits, such as:
• Shrunken thymus glands (up to 40 percent shrinkage)
• Enlarged liver and kidneys. |

Ephedrine was effective in the treatment of neuropathic edema in 4 insulin-dependent diabetic patients (Edmonds et al, 1983).
Ejaculatory Failure: Ephedrine has been reported to produce an increase in volume of ejaculate and an increase in motility of sperm in men with failure of emission secondary to retroperitoneal lymphadenectomy (Lynch & Maxted, 1983; Proctor & Howards, 1983).
Enzyme Inhibition Activity: In vitro experiments have found inhibition of the enzyme dopa oxidase activity of tyrosnase in the stems of Ephedra sinica. |
| Anthocyanosides may help to prevent diabetic patients from injuries caused by malfunction of synthesis activities during normal diabetic treatment (Boniface, 1996).
Retinal improvement was demonstrated in a small trial of 40 patients. Ophthalmoscopic examination and descriptions of the fluoroangiographic investigation of patients with diabetic or hypertensive vascular retinopathy was performed in a double-blind, randomized, controlled study with specific exclusion criteria. |
| Low luminance visual acuity was evaluated in diabetic patients with retinal pathologies. Retinal function was improved after administration of anthocyanoside-purified extract (Forte, 1996).
Cataracts
Bilberry prevented the development of further lens opacity in 97% of the eyes of 50 patients with mild senile cortical cataracts in a randomized, double blind, placebo-controlled trial. A Bilberry extract of 180 mg of Bilberry and 100 milligrams vitamin E was given orally twice a day for 8 months (Bravetti et al, 1989). |

When I finally convince my diabetic patients to eat low-glycemic carbohydrates combined with good protein and good fat, their diabetic control improves dramatically, and their bodies become more sensitive to their own insulin.
Basic Diet Instruction
The following are goodiats, proteins, and carbohydrates. When you combine these in each meal or snack you eat, your blood sugar will not jump to dangerous levels that need controlling.
The best protein and fats come from vegetables and vegetable oils. |

After the drug killed well over 100 diabetic patients and crippled many more, it was pulled off the market. Neither the oral hypoglycemic agents nor insulin injections have any effects on increasing the uptake of glucose by the cells of the body. This essentially means that the diabetic patient cannot expect to improve or become cured by any of these treatments. On the contrary, the prognosis with this orthodox treatment is an increasing disability and early death from heart or kidney failure, or failure of some other vital organ. |

There is strong evidence suggesting a relationship between uncontrolled type 1 and type 2 diabetes and magnesium deficiency,220 thus magnesium deficiency may predispose diabetic patients to an increased incidence of cardiovascular disease and death.
Magnesium also improves cardiac performance by enhancing blood flow in the coronary arteries. It also prevents oxidation of lipoproteins and subsequent atherosclerosis.

Magnesium deficit has been associated with both type 1 and type 2 diabetes, as well as an increased risk of retinopathy in diabetic patients. Studies show that when this deficiency is corrected in the elderly, insulin function improves significantly."1
Unfortunately, diagnosing magnesium deficiency is very difficult. Typically, serum magnesium levels are tested where only a trace amount of the body's total magnesium is located. Cellular levels of magnesium are much more sensitive and accurate; however, these can be tested only in research labs, not in hospitals. |
| Four out of five diabetic patients eventually will die—not from diabetes itself, but from cardiovascular disease (heart attack, stroke, or peripheral vascular disease) initiated by the diabetes. Did you know that diabetes is the leading cause of amputations and one of the leading causes of blindness in the elderly?2
Diabetes mellitus has reached epidemic proportions. With more than 90 percent of these cases known as type-2 diabetes (formerly known as adult-onset diabetes), we must seriously consider what is going wrong! Type-1 diabetes used to be called juvenile diabetes. |
| Diet
In my opinion too many doctors make major mistakes in the diet they recommend to their diabetic patients. Since the greatest risk for these patients is cardiovascular disease, the American Diabetic Association has remained primarily concerned about the amount of fat in people's diets. Therefore, the diet the ADA and many dieticians support is a high-carbohydrate, low-fat diet.
Diabetics have religiously followed the ADA's recommendations for the past thirty-five years. In the mid-seventies, 80 percent of diabetics were dying from cardiovascular disease. |
| Chromium has been shown to greatly improve insulin sensitivity, especially in those who are deficient in this mineral." diabetic patients and patients with Syndrome X need 300 meg of chromium in supplementation.
Vitamin E not only improves antioxidant defenses but also seems to help the body in the problem of insulin resistance. Research reveals that a low vitamin E level is an independent and strong predictor for the development of adult-onset diabetes. Individuals who have low levels of vitamin E have a fivefold higher risk of developing diabetes than those with a normal amount of vitamin E. |

We can now predict with accuracy type 1 diabetes in first-degree relatives of type 1 diabetic patients," he says. "This allows us to consider novel intervention strategies in an effort to delay or even prevent overt disease in those individuals who are at greatest risk of developing type 1 diabetes."
In other autoimmune diseases, the race has only recently begun to recognize antibodies that confirm diagnosis after symptoms have already occurred—and researchers remain years away from using such newly understood blood biomarkers to predict who may or may not develop disease. |

| Is it logical that doctors recommend that diabetic patients use antidepressants, thereby muting the physiological (cortical steroid) response to excess insulin in their system and preventing them from recognizing an insulin reaction? Perhaps the overwhelming concern of the pharmaco/medical establishment is that if diabetics die from insulin reactions, at least they should die happy? This makes as much sense as many other current protocol reasonings.
Another rather stupid statement in this diabetes vs. depression analysis concerned Type 2 diabetes and hyperglycemia. |

Unfortunately, the benefits (or lack of benefits) of statins for patients with type 2 diabetes are not clear from the results of these trials for various reasons, including study-design flaws, technical issues relating to statistics, and the small numbers of diabetic patients involved in some of the trials.
The best argument for the use of statins to reduce the risk of heart disease in diabetes can be seen in the results of the double-blind, placebo-controlled Collaborative Atorvastatin Diabetes Study (CARDS), in which more than 2,800 men and women participated. |

| Proven protocols for some diabetic patients were destroyed when animal insulins—particularly beef in all forms—were taken off the market. The only reason for this appears to have been to protect the insulin makers from the huge tort liability for their lies. Beef insulin in a pure form is a chemical analog with three amino acids difference from Human Insulin.
I believe that increased diabetic deaths, increased emergency room visits, increased automobile accidents due to hypoglycemia, and increased "dead in bed" syndrome are not coincidental. |

| Beef Ultralente is no longer available in the marketplace, because Lilly and NovoNordisk arbitrarily decided this only-known ideal basal insulin was an immunogenic (causes an immune response) foreign protein for some diabetic patients. They said this could lead to alteration in insulin time action (their words). Even noted diabetes researcher, Irl Hirsch, in a 1993 review of diabetes insulin treatment, called Beef Ultralente the only true basal insulin, with no peak. He also made reference to Human UL Ultralente as being something less than ideal (my words).

The American Diabetes Association has also concluded that clinicians should consider aspirin for primary prevention of heart disease in diabetic patients who are older than 30 or have risk factors for cardiovascular disease and no contraindications to aspirin. The American Heart Association recommends aspirin for "patients who've had a myocardial infarction (heart attack), unstable angina, ischemic stroke (caused by blood clot) or transient ischemic attacks (TIAs or 'little strokes'), if not contraindicated." You should not start aspirin therapy without first consulting your practitioner. |
