In fact, it's very important to avoid allowing a doctor or dentist to even hit you with a scare story or other manipulation tactic, because most people will just go right along with their advice even when it makes no sense. People don't question medical authorities as much as they should. And dentists know it. They know that most patients will just go ahead and agree to practically anything they recommend.
That makes a situation where fraud and exploitation of patients is frighteningly easy to accomplish. |
| After taking dental x-rays (another health hazard, as new research is showing), my dentist fed me a scare story about how I still had all my wisdom teeth, and that all those teeth needed to be surgically removed. I was absolutely stunned.
My wisdom teeth were working just fine: no cavities, no pain, no problems. I had made an appointment for a routine checkup, not to undergo expensive surgery for my wisdom teeth. But my dentist insisted, relying on a variety of scare tactics to try to convince me to undergo this expensive -- and completely unnecessary -- procedure. |

His mother explained that her son had gone to the dentist at his commander's request to have the tooth pulled before leaving for the Middle East. But Colby had suffered what is called a dry socket, in which the hole left when a tooth comes out does not heal. The excruciating pain can last for weeks.
Colby had started taking one of the painkillers before his tooth was pulled. Five days after a dentist pulled the tooth, the soldier went to the emergency room, where a doctor prescribed a second drug. Two days later another dentist gave him the third prescription. |

It's just a revenue generating procedure that's dishonestly pushed onto patients who gladly go along with anything their dentist says, even when it's utter nonsense.
Surgery to remove wisdom teeth is worthless, says British Medical Journal
(Partially reprinted from www.NewsTarget.com/001108.html)
In a groundbreaking report from the British Medical Journal, researchers who poured over thousands of studies detailing the efficacy of medical and dental procedures have concluded that many popular surgical procedures are completely worthless. |
| Better yet, seek out a "natural" dentist who won't use mercury fillings or highly toxic fluoride, and who will turn to surgery as a last resort rather than a "standard procedure." Don't be tricked into unnecessary (and medically dangerous) surgical procedures that can only cause you harm.
You may also want to check out this story about the toxicity of fluoride. |
| Folks, you need to start questioning your dentist. Don't believe everything they tell you. Often they're just full of bunk, or they're trying to sell you on whatever procedure they get paid for performing. They're not all evil -- many actually believe these procedures will help you, which is why they seem so sincere -- but they are grossly misinformed. Their beliefs are based on medical dogma, not scientific fact. |

He was using his authority and position as "the dentist" to try to scare me into accepting a surgical procedure that I quite obviously didn't need. In fact, even he couldn't give me a good reason for justifying the surgery other than to say, "We usually remove the wisdom teeth quite early." Which means, of course, that they just order the surgery for every child or teenager who walks into the clinic, regardless of whether they actually need it.
Now, it turns out, the removal of wisdom teeth has been found to be an utterly worthless procedure to begin with. |

To illustrate the key difference between awareness and consciousness, let's take the example of a well-known experiment in dentistry. A dentist gave his patients an inert, placebo pill and told them that they were receiving a painkiller. They then had a tooth drilled, which should have hurt but didn't. They were responding to the idea of a painkiller rather than the pain of the drill. They were aware of the drill (the event) but unconscious of the pain.
Here we see encapsulated the entire difference between consciousness and awareness. |

Five days after a dentist pulled the tooth, the soldier went to the emergency room, where a doctor prescribed a second drug. Two days later another dentist gave him the third prescription. The label for each of these drugs comes with a warning against driving because each one can make people dizzy and drowsy. Some patients become sedated. These effects were clear in one simulated driving test that found that young people talking codeine went off the road more and had nearly ten times the number of collisions as people not taking the drug. |

Removing Mercury from Our Mouths
Because of the potential for the release of mercury into the mouth and air, the removal of silver amalgams must be done carefully, by a dentist who has been trained in techniques for safe removal. The action of the highspeed drill on the material being removed generates heat that dramatically increases the off-gassing of mercury, which can then be inhaled by both patient and dentist. Unless good air suction and a rubber dam are used, the little flying fragments will be inhaled and swallowed. |
| Also, consult a dentist who specializes in mercury-free dentistry. Dr. Huggins' website, www.hugnet.com, has a wealth of information on all dental-related areas of concern.

Nickel is worthy of special mention because, although it is one of the most durable metals, it is also one of the most carcinogenic metals in the world. Yet it is often used as a main component, over 70%, in making crowns, bridges, braces, and partial dentures. |

Much like heart disease, chronic problems of the teeth are by now part of the furniture of modern life. If you currently have amalgam fillings, please don't rush to your dentist and have them removed. Unless you have a biologically trained and certified dentist, the removal process can be far more dangerous than leaving them in. This is exponentially more important if you are in poor health. If you're a dentist reading this, make a note: this is the new standard of mercury removal. And if you're not offering this service to your clients, you should consider adopting it, because people will be increasingly demanding this kind of service down the road.
As a dental customer, the first thing you want to do is find a dentist who will actually agree to remove the mercury from your mouth. Some dentists will look at you with a degree of scorn and say, "Oh, that's hogwash. Mercury is great for you. See, I chew on mercury every single day and I'm fine. |

The patient can look in the dentist's mirror and see the drill as it touches the tooth, yet feels nothing; an example of severe pain being shut out of conscious-awareness. The idea or belief of the pill's power had provoked the secretion of internal painkillers, exactly as though they were injected. They can be stronger than a drill against a nerve. Ideas—awareness—can do wonders about making us unconscious, which is the joy of cognitive therapy. It can make us think we are conscious while we remain unconscious. It helps us confuse awareness with consciousness. |

Could the need for so much remedial work on a body part crucially involved in an activity as critical to our survival as eating reflect a design defect in the human body, some sort of oversight of natural selection? This seems unlikely. |
