All Congress would have to do is pass a law forbidding credit card companies to process payments from spam e-mail. Any credit card company that processed a payment from a spam e-mail would face severe fines or loss of the right to process any credit cards, or jail. The credit card companies then would take the responsibility of knowing their customers and finding out how business was generated. E-mail spamming would stop. The policing action is simple. All the government has to do is order a product from some spam e-mail and then charge the credit card company with the violation. |

The gambling addict may take $100 and leave a credit card in the trunk of the car, but before the evening is over, she is probably back out to the car, getting the credit card. The third is that the consequences of the behavior are bad or negative and the individual continues doing the behavior. The alcoholic gets a DUI, which might stop a person who is just a social drinker. It doesn't stop the alcoholic. A gambler may write a bad check, have problems from that, but it will not stop the behavior.

People who refinance their homes to pay their credit card debt, and then rack up new credit card debt, thinking their home is some kind of limitless cash-dispensing ATM machine. The fact is, most people just don't have the IQ to handle living in modern society, at least not when there are financial decisions that need to be made.
So thumbs up to Mike Judge for showing us the way our world really is by depicting a future world that might actually come to pass. |

However, before you pull out your credit card, you should know that there is nothing in this basic, ordinary moisturizer that can fade dark circles—or even be any real benefit for skin. The hyped ingredients in this product—sweet almond and apple fruit extract—are barely present, but even if they were there in greater amounts, they come up short in comparison to countless other skin-care ingredients. So what you're left with is a moisturizer whose high concentration of film-forming agents may make eye-area skin look smoother and perhaps feel a bit firmer. |

The truth about membership dues is that there are a significant number of members that do not use the club and who also do not check their bank or credit card statements. They actually forget they are paying for a membership. Unbelievably, a large number of people come back to get a refund on dues from years earlier after realizing their account was being tapped for monthly dues. If you are one of those people, you can forget about a refund. |

Creating a compelling message that will get people to act is challenging. We are inundated with thousands of marketing messages every day, each competing for our discretionary income. Billions of dollars are spent on print ads, direct mail, TV, radio, billboards and other marketing media designed to get our attention. A breakthrough approach to marketing was born with the infomercial — an industry with annual revenues of over $90 billion. |
| If you do not take the time to check your own bank or credit card statements to make sure they are correct, I can assure that the club will not contact you with a refund notification.

Control your shopping. How can you change shopaholic behavior? According to Mike Millard, a friend and one of the simplicity gurus in Tucson, Arizona, it helps to follow five steps.
• When you do have to go shopping, always use a shopping list.
• If you're tempted to make an impulse purchase, ask yourself whether you can live without the product.
• Resist the seduction of advertising. |

Before you reach for your credit card, you should know this silicone-based twist-up stick won't make pores less visible, at least not any more than a matte-finish foundation or concealer. It is very silky and easy to apply, but the "fill-in" effect it has on pores is fleeting, primarily due to the wax and jojoba esters in this product (which, ironically, can clog pores). These ingredients help keep the stick texture in solid form, but aren't too far removed from the sebum your skin produces. |

To use a money analogy, natural care is much more like a long-term 401k than it is like an "impulse purchase" on your maxed-out credit card. But like all long-term investments, it pays off in dividends much greater than the temporary "high" of dealing only with the immediate.
Is it harder and slower? Sure.
Is it worth it? You be the judge.

Insert your life savings (or a credit card with a huge credit limit), press the button for your "disease" or condition, and it dispenses drugs along with FDA black box warnings that are ignored by everyone. Through this vending machine concept, drug companies could actually bypass both doctors and pharmacists, distributing pharmaceuticals directly to patients who have been motivated to purchase them by watching highly deceptive drug advertisements.
It's a brilliant way to greatly expand the sales of pharmaceuticals, regardless of who gets hurt in the process. |

Commerce Anxiety Disorder (CAD)
Characterized by heightened worry over whether your credit card charge will be declined at the cash register, Commerce Anxiety Disorder afflicts primarily people under 35. Victims of CAD frequently experience sweaty palms and heart palpitations at any checkout counter, and they often carry three or four credit cards or debit cards in order to have a backup plan should one piece of plastic fail the transaction. |

With a swipe of a credit card, it belongs to us.
Over the last twenty years, impulsive and excessive shopping has increased, as evidenced by the huge amount of high-interest consumer credit-card debt in the United States. We are more likely to make hasty and expensive decisions because we don't give them enough thought.
Multitasking has helped to foster impulsive behavior. Doing more than one thing at a time has become so instilled that, when we are limited to doing just one thing, we often don't feel right. Around 100 B.C. |

Some activities were geared toward fee generation, such as the securitization of mortgages, credit card receivables, or other assets, or they catered to low-income individuals with limited options who could be nickeled and dimed to death with charges, including monthly maintenance, ATM fees, and a panoply of other service-related fees. Others revolved around risks off the balance sheet. Some key measures of capital adequacy were typically unaffected by such transactions, regardless of the volumes involved. |

Two-thirds of the day care centers surveyed in eastern Iowa reported that they were distributing doses of medicines for attention deficit disorder to some of their young attendees, according to a 2003 study by researchers at the University of Iowa. On a typical day almost 6 percent of the infants, toddlers, and children in those day care centers were given some kind of medicine, which ranged from antibiotics to insulin. |

Debit and credit card usage may also be sharply curtailed, triggering massive shock waves and chaos in an age when people have become almost completely dependent on electronic transactions. The effective losses to account holders at financial institutions, as well as unexpectedly uninsured depositors at banks around the country, are likely to far exceed the 19 percent seen during the Great Depression.

Aside from enabling an orgy of credit creation—whether explicitly agreed to or not by policymakers remains an open question—the process of recycling home, auto, credit card, and other loans into bundles and passing them off means that lenders have few incentives to keep tabs on borrowers. Rather, it is in their interests to lend money to anybody who asks. Because the 1990s included an unusually long span without a severe economic downturn, it should be no surprise when individuals and companies default in droves as conditions worsen. |
| Although a substantial proportion of assets has traditionally been available to pay off creditors following a filing for bankruptcy, debtors once had been able to "affirm"—agree to keep paying—secured debts to shield at least some of their equity interest from credit card and other unsecured lenders. Many states also allowed certain property, including homes, to be excluded from the pool of assets that could be used to satisfy existing creditors.
The shift toward variable-rate debt has also altered the impact of a change in yields. |

With food labels, you must distinguish between the advertising that tries to sell you the product and information stating what it actually offers in terms of good or bad nutrition. If you don't read labels, you will pay with your health. Even we have occasionally been victims of a "gotcha" when we took something for granted and skipped reading the fine print. |
