Roughly $40 billion in federal subsidies are going to pay corn growers, so that corn syrup is able to replace cane sugar. corn syrup has been singled out by many health experts as one of the chief culprits of rising obesity, because corn syrup does not turn off appetite. Since the advent of corn syrup, consumption of all sweeteners has soared, as have people's weights.
According to a 2004 study reported in the American journal of Clinical Nutrition, the rise of Type-2 diabetes since 1980 has closely paralleled the increased use of sweeteners, particularly corn syrup. |

The ingredients in the Balance Bar are, after the protein blend: sugar, corn syrup, glycerin, high-maltose corn syrup, fractionated palm kernel oil, high fructose corn syrup, and even maltitol. So, let's get this straight here for a second. We have 6 ingredients after the protein blend, five of which are refined sweeteners.
This is the top sponsor of the Natural Health Products Expo. This is a show that's supposed to be about health. Is this a healthy product? Well, maybe the Balance Bar company would argue that "the Balance Bar can be part of a healthy diet," as all candy bar companies argue. |

The average American now consumes over 100 pounds of sucrose and 40 pounds of corn syrup each year. This sugar addiction probably plays a major role in the high prevalence of poor health and chronic disease in the United States.
Research in the past three decades has provided an ever-increasing amount of new information on the role that both refined carbohydrates (sugar, high fructose corn syrup, and low-fiber starchy foods) and faulty blood sugar control play in many disease processes. |

High-fructose corn syrup, in addition to being genetically modified, is devastating to metabolism. The standard diet for making a rat diabetic is to feed it high-fructose corn syrup and excess saturated fat (with no essential fatty acids). Recently, scientists wondered which of these two ingredients was really inducing the diabetes, so they tested them separately. Not surprisingly, they both caused diabetes. Excessive saturated fat piles up in body organs and clogs them to a halt. High-fructose corn syrup causes such severe insulin resistance that diabetes occurs easily. |

Virtually ALL of the Halloween candy being given away to children on this bizarre holiday is made of these three primary ingredients:
SUGAR (sucrose, corn syrup or high-fructose corn syrup)
COLOR (chemical food coloring additives, including the ones that cause ADHD)
FLAVOR (artificial chemical flavors)
Slap a blob of this nutritious mixture into a plastic wrapper, stamp a fun-looking logo on the outside, and you've got candy!
If you want to manufacture a different kind of candy, simply change the chemicals you're using to have a "bubble gum" flavor or a "tangy" color. |

For example, a manufacturer may use a combination of sucrose, high-fructose corn syrup, corn syrup solids, brown sugar, dextrose and other sugar ingredients to make sure none of them are present in large enough quantities to attain a top position on the ingredients list (remember, the ingredients are listed in order of their proportion in the food, with the most common ingredients listed first).
This fools consumers into thinking the food product isn't really made mostly of sugar while, in reality, the majority ingredients could all be different forms of sugar. |

High-fructose corn syrup appears to be worse than plain old sugar in terms of its health effects. Food companies also started to use large amounts of trans fats (in the form of partially hydrogenated vegetable oils), which contribute to diabetes, overweight, and heart disease.
Another change during the 1980s was the popularity of low-fat and zero-fat diets. Such diets almost always were high-carb and high-sugar diets, with the additional carbs and sugar further propelling people toward prediabetes. |
| It's best to stick with the very small amounts of natural sugar and carbs found in fruits and vegetables and to avoid all types of added sugar, such as sucrose and high-fructose corn syrup. orange-flavored soft drinks are even worse. A two-quart bottle of Sunkist contains 1,040 calories and almost two-thirds of a pound (280 grams) of sugars. |

This has generated an epidemic of obesity, diabetes, cancer and heart disease. This epidemic is not being treated at the causal level. Note: Since the fructose in corn syrup does neither stimulate insulin secretion nor reduce the hunger hormone ghrelin, you will continue to feel hungry while the body converts the fructose into fat. The resulting obesity increases the risk of diabetes and other diseases.
Since you obviously cannot expect to receive much help from those who only know how to treat the effects of illness and not its causes, you may need to take your health into you own hands. |
| The concentrated phosphoric acid, artificial flavors and sweeteners, large quantities of refined sugar (mostly fructose corn syrup) and other chemicals contained in cola soft drinks are very destructive for biological life forms. So the body's cells will consider them to be poisonous and go into a stress response. Their energy production, measured by the amount of ATP molecules they make, begins to drop abruptly as a result of this response. This practically means that the tissues in the body are increasingly cut off from the routes of energy supply and, hence, become weakened. |

Huge Amounts of Sugar in Soft Drinks and Juices
A 12-ounce can of Coca-Cola Classic, like most other soft drinks sweetened with high-fructose corn syrup, contains the equivalent of ten teaspoons of sugars. If you drink just one can of regular Coke, Pepsi, or Mountain Dew a day, all that sugar can pack on fifteen pounds over the course of a year. That alone can put you on the fast track to prediabetes.
Consider soft drinks a source of stealth calories. Serving sizes have increased substantially over the years, contributing to a growth in waist sizes. |

In 1801, historians estimate, each person consumed about 8.4 pounds of sugar, which comes to less than one tablespoon or 2.2 teaspoons a day. ii In 1909, when the first official U.S. |

Salt. With all this talk of lowering cholesterol and improving the cholesterol ratios, it is easy to forget how important it is to balance the blood pressure and how foods may have a positive or a negative effect on this. For example, a diet low in potassium and high in sodium is associated with high blood pressure. By contrast, a diet high in potassium and low in sodium can protect against elevation of blood pressure. |

Many consumers believe that vitamin C is beneficial, as about 30 percent of the U.S. adult population takes supplemental vitamin C. Currently, vitamin C is the most widely used vitamin supplement in the world.
Vitamin C is also used extensively to preserve food. L-ascorbic acid and its fatty acid esters are food additives used as browning inhibitors, antioxidants, flavor stabilizers, dough modifiers, and color stabilizers. |
