In one study, researchers gave cinnamon to 60 overweight people with type 2 diabetes. The dosages were 1, 3, or 6 grams daily for 40 days. People taking cinnamon had decreases in blood sugar ranging from 18 to 29 percent. Although you can buy cinnamon in capsules, it is far less expensive to purchase the ground spice and sprinkle it on oatmeal or fruit, such as apples, cantaloupe, or berries. Take 1 to 6 grams daily. One gram of cinnamon is about one-quarter teaspoon of the spice, so 4 grams would equal 1 tea-spoonful.

I've tried all the available flavors of Spry gum, and I like cinnamon the best. It has long-lasting flavor and is delicious. Studies have also shown that cinnamon helps reduce cavities in the mouth and can even assist in the stabilization of blood sugar. With that said, there's probably not a whole lot of cinnamon in the gum, so I wouldn't consider it to be a medicinal dose of cinnamon oil.
The next best flavor is spearmint. After that, my third choice is peppermint and finally strawberry flavor. |

Simply put, holy basil helps regulate blood sugar in a way similar to cinnamon. cinnamon is an herb that's been shown to lower high blood sugar, even in response to the consumption of high glycemic index carbohydrates. Holy basil can do this as well. This shouldn't be an excuse to start consuming high glycemic index foods, thinking, "I've got these herbs. I'll just take some cinnamon and some basil, and I'll get this blood sugar under control." That's not the right way to approach nutritional supplements. |

St. Clair: Yes. We're actually researching cinnamon right now, because although the Blood Sugar Balance is a very effective formula as is, we're always looking at ways to improve our formulations, and we're in the process of possibly updating the Blood Sugar Balance at this time. So cinnamon's on our research list right now.

However, it should be noted that pomegranate sugars are somewhat unique in that they do not spike blood sugar levels as easily as other fruit sugars. It's a mysterious effect, actually, and scientists are not sure why pomegranate juice seems to be so mild in its blood sugar effects. This makes it the ideal juice for diabetics, as it also helps reduce atherosclerosis risks in diabetics. |
