Where animal studies on the causes of cancer exist, they are often faulted as not relevant to humans. Yet when studies of almost identical design are employed to craft novel treatments and therapies, the physiological differences between animals and humans suddenly become insignificant.
Many people think that the reason large numbers of us no longer die from infectious diseases is the miraculous breakthroughs of scientific discovery. Not so. In fact, the decline of epidemics in the nineteenth century had nothing to do with breathtaking scientific advances; all of these came much later. |

To deal with the root causes of cancer, you must find satisfying and practical answers to the above questions. If you feel the inner urge to make sense of this life-changing event, cancer that is, you will greatly benefit from continuing to read this book. Cancer can be your greatest opportunity to help restore balance to all aspects of your life, but on the other hand, it can also be the harbinger of severe trauma and suffering. Either way, you will discover that you are always in control of your body. To live in a human body, you must have access to a certain amount of life-sustaining energy. |

Even so, environmental concerns, even ones that are known causes of cancer, are beyond the mission of the public health establishment.
Finally, our third question: who makes money by keeping us healthy?
Alas, there is no one.

ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE
In 1971, Secretary of State Henry Kissinger made a secret trip to China, a country with which the United States had no diplomatic (and hardly another ties) at the time. One of the few reporters in the Kissinger entourage was James Reston of the New York Times. |

We may look back on this period as the dark ages of cancer treatment, when our ignorance of the basic causes of cancer and the biology of the cancer cell led us to use toxic mixtures of randomly selected chemicals, more in the hope than in the expectation of a cure for the disease. - Garth Powis, DPh, The Toxicity of Anticancer Drugs, Per-gamon Press, 1991.

It will perhaps astound you to learn that a person who is afflicted with the main causes of cancer (which constitute the real illness) would most likely die quickly unless he actually grew cancer cells. In the book, Cancer is not a Disease, I will provide evidence to this effect. This chapter establishes the foundation for understanding the true causes, purpose and role of cancer.
I further claim that cancer will only occur after all other defense or healing mechanisms in the body have failed. |

There's a normalization of cancer in that model when you don't look at causes of cancer. It's like saying you're going to get it — but we'll cure it."
Look Good, Feel Better
We may get cancer, but at least we'll look good when we do.
"Give cancer the brush," says the ad for "Look Good ... Feel Better," the flagship cancer program of the Cosmetic, Toiletry, and Fragrance Association (CTFA).26 The program offers free makeup to women recovering from cancer treatments — a generous gesture, yes, but also a bit jarring with its head-patting tone and focus on pushing products. |

Removing the symptom of cancer, such as a tumor, does not remove the underlying causes of cancer, regardless whether the tumor is removed at an early or late stage. As explained before, the tumor is not the problem; it is actually part for the solution. Early cancer detection and treatment almost never prevent a recurrence unless, of course, the patient also removes the causes of the cancer. With most cancers, the highly suppressive and destructive cancer treatments eventually lead to a far more aggressive and fast-spreading cancer (survival response) than the original one. |

Every individual concerned with public health should be worried about the results of these polls and should question himself or herself as to the need of re-examining the communication strategies designed to inform people about the causes of cancer. Why? Because with the exception of the smoking issue, these perceptions are completely at odds with what the scientific community has succeeded in identifying as trigger factors for cancer.
As we look at the causes of cancer, you will discover that a minority of cancers are caused by factors that cannot really be controlled (Figure 2). |

The approaches provided in this book offer to deal with the causes of cancer while giving very little importance to the symptoms of cancer, that is, cancer cells.
It is a medical fact that every person has cancer cells in the body at all times. These cancer cells remain undetectable through standard tests until they have multiplied to several billion. When doctors announce to their cancer patients that the treatments they prescribed had successfully eliminated all cancer cells, they merely refer to tests that are able to identify the detectable size of cancer tumors. |

I believe that if we had acted on what has long been known about the industrial and environmental causes of cancer when this war first began, at least a million and a half lives could have been spared, a huge casualty rate that those who have managed the war on cancer must answer for. This book explains how I have come to that reckoning.

Blaming bacteria for causing an infection reflects great ignorance about the workings of natural processes both in the body and in the environment. As mentioned before, infection is not caused by bacteria, but by the presence of toxic substances and the resulting cell damage that attracts these organisms.
So-called deadly bacteria, which are involved in the most serious infections, can be found almost everywhere. |

Inorganic arsenic is considered one of the prominent environmental causes of cancer mortality in the world. Chicken consumption may contribute significant amounts of arsenic to total arsenic exposure of the U.S. population according to the Journal Environmental Health Perspectives.1*
"Arsenic acts as a growth stimulant in chickens—develops the meat faster—and since then, the poultry industry has gone wild using this ingredient," says Donald Herman, a Mississippi agricultural consultant and former Environmental Protection Agency researcher who has studied this use of arsenic for a decade. |

The complexities of the real world make unequivocal evidence on the causes of cancer in humans quite hard to come by. In truth, there is much bona fide scientific uncertainty about such a complicated illness. The existence of this doubt is easily exploited. Since World War II, whenever and however information on the cancer hazards of the workplace and the environment has been generated, it has typically been discredited, dismissed, or disparaged.7
The tobacco companies' long struggle to obscure and muddy findings on the dangers of cigarettes, successful for many decades, serves as the model. |

Where to start with curing cancer
The bottom line is that conventional cancer treatments are a sham and they do nothing to help the patient overcome the causes of cancer. They do a great job of creating repeat business for the cancer industry, however, and pharmaceutical companies now have a reliable market for the anticancer chemicals that have now become mainstream treatments for this entirely preventable and curable disease. But if you want to really cure cancer, you've got to focus on detoxification and healing from the inside out. |

Cures for cancer exist all around us: Sunlight, rainforest herbs, anti-cancer foods and superfoods, etc. The causes of cancer are well known: Toxic chemicals in foods, cosmetics, personal care products, home cleaning products, and so on. So why don't we, as a nation, take steps to outlaw the things that cause cancer while promoting the things that prevent cancer?
The reason, once again, is because there's too much money at stake here. The corporations are in charge, and as long as they're running the show, cancer cures or prevention strategies that really work will simply not be tolerated. |

It is no coincidence that the mainstream disease groups keep the chemical causes of cancer and neurological disorders a big secret. They're primarily focused on treatment, not prevention. Because prevention would necessitate a discussion of why all these product companies are using such toxic chemicals in their foods, drugs and personal care products.
Preventing prevention
Virtually all the popular cancer groups out there -- including the non-profit cancer groups -- are focused on lucrative cancer treatments while avoiding cost-effective cancer prevention. |

Time after time, it seems that funding for research and development programs that address the causes of cancer is totally ignored by those in authority positions.
Politicians like to use terms such as "declaring war" on diseases. But to return a body to health, the solution is not to find an aggressor against a disease. The solution is to build a solid defense system within the body so that disease has no appropriate medium in which to exist. From an economic viewpoint, politicians are able to justify large expenditures during wartime, hence their bellicose rhetoric. |

Professors see more money in working on the next blockbuster heartburn medicine than in studying the environmental causes of cancer. They and the companies that financially support them are more interested in developing hair loss treatments and other lifestyle drugs for rich Americans than in discovering cures for diseases like malaria, which is devastating poor countries and killing a child every thirty seconds. |

Scientists who tackled industrial causes of cancer often found themselves facing subtle and sometimes not so subtle warnings. Those who resisted pressure to back off often found their funding cut.9 In some cases, scientific research was stopped in its tracks, and many careers, like Hueper's, were derailed.10
In retrospect it seems clear that Frank Press was correct about many things. It's not enough to write the right book. The world has to be ready to listen. |
| Centuries-old knowledge about the causes of cancer, accepted by scientists and businesses alike in 1936, is now inadmissible in court—not because it has been disproved, but because it has been superseded by legal maneuvers and disqualified by a subtle shift in what is considered proof of harm. The kinds of scientific evidence that can be used today in these situations has been carefully culled. Animal research is usually ruled out. That work may be suitable to make drugs, but not for showing harm to people. |

Sir Richard Doll in The causes of cancer revealed how the Western diet was just as important as tobacco in causing cancer. Professor Samuel Epstein had found that chemical pollutants in the air and water caused a further one in five of all cancers. Sir Douglas Black had rediscovered that poverty was still a major cause of illness in Britain, killing 75,000 people a year - or 200 a day. And it had been proved 'beyond reasonable doubt' that milk and dairy foods were killing thousands a year from heart attacks and an excess of salt was equally implicated in strokes. |

The same exact gene and hormonal signals that are essential for survival are used against the person to cause cancer and heart disease. Here are the basic causes of cancer:
1. Toxins. As I mentioned in my Natural Cures book, the number one reason people get sick or have any disease is too many toxins in the body. Toxins are the number one cause of cancer as well. The basic or main toxins that cause cancer include: a. smoking; b. mechanical, physical, and chemical irritation; c. food additives, such as DES, or diethylstilbestrol, which is used in food production—primarily in meat products. Eighty-five percent of all meat in the United States contains dangerous residual amounts of this poison. |
