SiCKO" profiles a number of Americans with insurance who have been denied needed care by their insurance companies, describes how the insurance-based healthcare system is structured to keep it that way, and provides examples of other industrialized nations where insurance companies do not stand in the way of medical care.
The campaign will highlight the need for reforms that prevent insurance companies from denying care, and send a strong signal to politicians in Congress, state capitals, and the presidential race who are promoting insurance-based reforms. |

It has nothing to do with health, but is really an effort to find ways to pay for the excess disease care that too many Americans need. They need this extra care because they do not take proper care of their personal health. You can personally do more than the entire government toward solving the health crisis and the cost of medical care—simply by taking care of yourself and decreasing your own costs of health care. |

Outlaw cancer-causing chemicals and fragrances in personal care products
Here's an obvious one: Let's make it illegal for personal care product manufacturers to poison their customers. This can be easily accomplished by outlawing the use of toxic liver-damaging or cancer-causing chemicals now used throughout the cosmetics and personal care industry.
Your average perfume product, for example, contains more than twenty cancer-causing chemicals, none of which are listed on the label. |

The message is hard to miss: Cuba takes better care of its citizens than America does. In fact, Cuba is willing to take care of a few American citizens that America abandoned! That kind of "in-yo-face" embarrassment to U.S. officials isn't appreciated much in police-state America these days, where practically anyone who dares question the wisdom of the government is branded a terrorist. Moore is clearly being targeted not merely because he took some 9/11 heroes to Cuba and got them health care, but because he dared to make it all public. |

HR 676 and similar bills in several state legislatures would have one public entity collecting and disbursing all revenues for care delivered by our current, mostly private hospitals, clinics, and doctors, similar to how Medicare works. The system is universal, assures comprehensive benefits, guarantees freedom to choose your provider, and controls costs. |

When there are some people taking care of their health and avoiding smoking, why should those who smoke demand that everybody else pay for their health care costs?
My suggestion is that we keep cigarettes legal, but we create a new policy that says those who engage in cigarette smoking are no longer covered by Medicare, Medicaid, or private health insurance. I know, it's pretty radical, and it will never, of course, become law, because it sounds too harsh. But let me explore a couple of interesting points on this so you can get a feel for why this is at least worth discussing. |

Here, the Health Ranger offers a brief review of the company and product line:
Pangea is flat-out one of the most eco-conscious personal care product companies I've ever had the pleasure of learning about. Headed by Joshua Onysko, Pangea goes way beyond the norm in creating eco-conscious, fair trade, health-friendly soaps and personal care products ranging from soap and shower products to skin cleansers, toners and creams. They never contain artificial fragrance chemicals, and 100% of what goes into these products is plant-based, cruelty-free, and honest. |

The threat posed by chemicals in personal care products
Prescription medications are not the only cause for concern. Consider parabens used in soaps, shampoos, moisturizers, and other personal care products. The EPA has reported that parabens -- methyl, propyl, butyl, and ethyl (alkyl-p-hydroxybenzoates) -- are endocrine disruptors. The EPA also stated "continual introduction of these benzoates (parabens) into sewage treatment systems and directly to recreational waters from the skin leads to the question of risk to aquatic organisms. |

And while the American people get sicker, the drug companies, insurance companies and many health "care" providers (it's really more like "sick care providers") are rolling in cash. Drug companies are now among the richest corporations in the world, and they got there by inventing fictitious diseases, then selling drugs to people who mostly don't need them. See my CounterThink cartoon, Disease Mongers, Inc. to learn more about this topic.
Meanwhile, the American people are the most diseased people in the world among advanced nations. |

| Most people simply don't take care of their own health, and while I could argue for days about the need for more patient responsibility alongside corporate responsibility, the fact is that relentless advertising from drug companies and food manufacturers has bred a mindset of disease, junk food consumption, pharmaceutical dependence and patient victimization. We have a health crisis in this country, and it's going to take genuinely radical reforms to turn this around and save America from a financial wipeout exacerbated by runaway health care spending. |

Health care reform: Money vs. people
Now, let's get serious about this: If you want to reform health care, what are you really talking about here? You're talking about two things: Cost and people. And that's the order that most people think of them in, by the way. It's the money first. Why? As a nation, we're going bankrupt. We're already bankrupt, actually, but we're just making it even worse with these sky-high health care costs.
Our employers are going bankrupt trying to fund the health insurance of their employees. It makes U.S. workers unable to compete in the global marketplace. |

Avoid being trapped by oncologists or other specialists in a system of harmful medical treatments that primarily turn you into a lifelong patient requiring ongoing treatment rather than making you well enough that you no longer need their services or products.
In all, declaring your freedom from America's failed health care system is the single most important thing you can do for your health. |

Health care reform goes far beyond crunching numbers
Now, I repeat my first statement here, which is that you can't have an honest debate about health care reform unless you address the issue of health. Yet in the months and years ahead, you're going to see a whole lot of people out there with all kinds of credentials, degrees and positions of authority, who are going to try to convince you, the consumer, that health care reform has nothing to do with heath. It only has to do with promoting a financial shell game by pushing nonsensical ideas like "the government here to rescue you. |

I must emphasize that this is still very much experimental technology and it should never be used for a replacement for any urgent care. If you break a bone, you need to go to the emergency room and get the bone set correctly. Or if you are seriously injured in some other way requiring urgent care, seek out that care and do not attempt to replace urgent care with VRCR treatments in any way. The VRCR device is for use during the healing process, after acute medical conditions have been addressed and stabilized. |

There is a middle ground where you can take very good care of the customer while taking care of yourself. You don't have to gouge the customer in order to have a healthy company. At the same time, you can't afford to do all this fancy marketing if you're putting your money into the ingredients.
Mike: You see that with food for people all the time. There are a lot of heavily marketed, coupon foods out there.
Newman: How much do you think went into making a bag of potato chips? And look at what is spent on their advertising. That is why you pay $3 to $4 for a bag of potato chips today. |

And some of the fees charged by vets now -- especially in emergency veterinary care -- are just as outrageous as fees charged to sick humans in hospitals. I once spent more than $1,000 for a single day of treatment trying to rescue a sick dog, and half of those fees were for bags of saline solution dripped through an IV. $500 for saline solution? Give me a break. I got ripped off and taken advantage of by a pet care clinic that was exploiting pet emergencies for maximum profits. (There are crooks and dishonest practitioners in the pet care industry just like in the people care industry. |

And most don't really care who suffers in order to make that money. The politicians, they want to get in power. How do you get in power? You keep big, rich companies happy. That's how you get in power, and that's how you stay in power. And once you're in power, you thank them by passing new legislation that makes sure there is a windfall of public money headed in their direction.
And how do you do that? You announce the Medicare drug discount card and make it illegal for the government to negotiate volume discounts with drug companies. |
| Big Business makes big bucks off a nation of diseased people
Health care and all the discussion about health care reform is really a discussion about managing a nation of diseased people. It's not about ending disease. It's not about curing cancer. It's not about preventing heart disease. It's about managing these illnesses. The question essentially becomes: "How are we going to keep people on just enough prescription drugs so we make a lot of money from them, but not so many that it kills them?" That's basically the strategy of Big Pharma. |

When people find out about medical tourism, they're going to get information on the internet, make informed decisions, go overseas and get high-quality care at a fraction of the price they'd be paying in the United States. And they're going to come back and tell lots of people.
As a nation, you can outlaw that, but all you're going to do is criminalize citizens of our society who should never be criminalized. They're just seeking honest, affordable health care. They just want a procedure that they can afford. |

They don't care what they cost because the results in some patients are fantastic and, on the whole, they are well tolerated. Earlier chemotherapies could not help but poison healthy as well as cancerous cells, leading to horrendous side effects. Moreover, the new drugs are a major stride in what has been steady upward progress. In the UK, the Observer newspaper notes, 'For women with breast cancer, their five-year survival rates have been increasing by 6% every five years since the mid-1980s.'1

Most bladder infections respond well to home care that treats the symptoms, while strengthening the immune system. You should still consult a doctor, however, as there is a possibility that the infection can spread to the kidneys. Your physician should monitor your progress and make sure the infection isn't traveling upward. And if you have recurring infections, your doctor should examine you for a structural abnormality in the urethra or the bladder that prevents urine from flowing properly. |
| If your basal body temperature is consistently low and if you experience the symptoms described here, but your blood test does not reveal hypothyroidism, consider working with a more holistic doctor for preventative care. Besides the basal body temperature, it may be of more help to run a saliva or urine thyroid test. |
