| Here's my theory: The appendix is located at the juncture of the small and large intestines and acts as a body regulator and communicator. The appendix monitors internal pH, the toxic load present, and the opening and closing of the ileocecal valve, plus it sends messages to the immune system regarding activity in the bowel.
The appendix is made up of lymphoid tissue (immune cells) and it regulates lymphatic, exocrine, endocrine, and neuromuscular functions. The appendix basically acts as a microcomputer relay station for the body. |

For this reason, liquid mercury tends to settle to the lowest spot it can. The appendix, hanging as a little tail off the intestines, is just such a low spot. In the case of this child, the appendix filled up like a thermometer. By X-ray, the dense mercury in his abdomen lit up like a metallic worm. He was suffering from a mercury-impacted appendix that, in the end, required surgical removal.1

The appendix is made up of lymphoid tissue (immune cells) and it regulates lymphatic, exocrine, endocrine, and neuromuscular functions. The appendix basically acts as a microcomputer relay station for the body. You might be wondering—why would the body's regulatory computer be located in the colon of all places? My answer is—why wouldn't it be? |
| The medical industry realizes a simple truth—without your appendix, you are destined for illness so doctors can prescribe you more drugs, perform more unnecessary surgeries, or (even worse) treat you with deadly radiation as a "cure" that's definitely worse than the disease.
So why is the appendix so important anyway? Here's my theory: The appendix is located at the juncture of the small and large intestines and acts as a body regulator and communicator. |

This makes questionable the common practice of removing the appendix "preventively" during abdominal surgery for other reasons.
Of course, the appendix can become diseased. When it gets clogged with fecal material, it may become inflamed and swollen and a bacterial infection may develop in its walls. As the swelling stretches the walls, pain becomes severe. Eventually the appendix bursts, and inflammation and infection spread throughout the abdomen. This complication, called peritonitis, is extremely dangerous. Therefore, it's very important to diagnose appendicitis before the appendix bursts. |

The appendix and Tonsils
The appendix, also known as the vermiform appendix, is a tiny tubelike structure attached to the large intestine. The tonsils are two small masses of lymphatic tissue located in the throat. Although their precise functions are not well understood, it is now generally accepted that both the appendix and the tonsils also support the immune system.

Despite physicians' best efforts, about 1 c percent of people who go under the knife to have their appendix removed don't actually have appendicitis. Sometimes the surgeon goes in and finds not a swollen appendix but a burst ovarian cyst. Other conditions that can mimic the pain of appendicitis include an intestinal blockage, constipation, menstrual cramps, and even a bad case of gas. In women of reproductive age, one in four appendectomies is negative or unnecessary. In people older than eighty, the negative appendectomy rate is a whopping 3 5 percent. |

Now, researchers comprised of surgeons and immunologists at Duke University Medical School say the appendix is there to protect the gut, which is not a small job by any means. This worm-shaped organ outgrowth acts like a bacteria factory, cultivating good germs, according to their study, published in the Journal of Theoretical Biology, October 2007.
Apparently, according to the "new" discovery (which Ayurveda has known for 6,000 years), the function of the appendix seems related to the massive amount of bacteria populating the human digestive system. |

ANIMAL-SOURCED ENZYME THERAPY
Animal-sourced enzymes have been studied since the late nineteenth century (see appendix D). There is great interest in this form of therapy, and particularly in the proteases pancreatin, trypsin, and chymotrypsin. Research has focused heavily on how these enzymes affect cancerous tumors. Cancer cells are surrounded by a protein that protects them by disguising them from the immune system. These enzymes break down that protein and expose the cancer to the immune system for removal. These enzymes may have a similar effect on viruses and bacteria. |
| The immune system is the body's defense system (see appendix C for additional information). The immune system's ability to fight off invaders depends on the enzyme protease, which breaks down proteins. Most types of illness are in some way related to protein. For example, cancer cells are surrounded by the protein fibrin. The blood clots that cause stroke and a high percentage of heart attacks are made up of this same protein. Pathogenic bacteria and parasites are comprised of proteins. |
| He did this by restricting the calorie intake of the mice (see appendix D). This is why I prefer the terms "energy potential" ov "lifepotential" to "enzymepotential!'
PRIMARY ENZYME CATEGORIES
Researchers have been able to identify and name more than five thousand enzymes that our bodies manufacture and use, but there are likely far more, perhaps tens of thousands of different enzymes within the body. Why are there so many? Our bodies depend on so many enzymes because each enzyme has a particular and limited function, a specific job, and it can do nothing else. |

| Appendicitis
Long thought to have no function in the body, the appendix is known now to contain lymphatic tissue and to play a role in the immune system of the gastrointestinal tract. It may be a kind of filter that helps protect the large intestine from harmful microbes. This makes questionable the common practice of removing the appendix "preventively" during abdominal surgery for other reasons.

Mixed with a bit of lemon or lime juice or vinegar and a little mustard, it makes a marvelous dressing.

The links between the first child, with mercury in his appendix, and the second, suffering the effects of mercury inhalation, are stronger than they might appear at first. The link is not simply that the same toxin was involved in each case. The more important tie is that a single, ancient hazard is still present in our everyday environment, not only in an old and traditional form but also in an entirely new combination. This is a scenario repeated all too often in the last decade, the last fifty years, and stretching back over a span of centuries. |

When the opening of the appendix becomes irritated and blocked by unhealthful remnants of partially digested foods, fluids accumulate. These stagnant fluids become infected, creating a disease condition common to Westerners called appendicitis. Although appendicitis was once unknown among cultures such as those observed by Dr. Burkitt, whose diets were centered around plant foods, the incidence of this illness is increasing as these cultures adopt a more Westernized diet. appendix

All body tissues are bathed in a watery fluid derived from the bloodstream called lymph. There are approximately six to ten liters of lymph fluids in the body, which is approximately two times the amount of blood. The fluid is transported through the body in lymphatic vessels similar to blood vessels. These vessels connect with the capillaries so that lymph fluid can be absorbed into and out of the bloodstream. |

It also communicates with the cochlea of the ear, so it has bioenergetic relevance for chronic hearing conditions or problems with the inner ear.

Likewise, replacing dead animals in the middle of a feeding study is not scientifically justified."113
