Scientists are not completely certain which components of soy cause allergic reactions. They have found at least sixteen allergenic proteins, and some researchers pinpoint as many as thirty.23 Kaayla T. Daniel writes in The Whole Soy Story:
Allergic reactions occur not only when soy is eaten but when soybean flour or dust is inhaled. Among epidemiologists, soybean dust is known as an "epidemic asthma agent." From 1981 [to] 1987, soy dust from grain silo unloading in the harbor caused 26 epidemics of asthma in Barcelona, seriously affecting 687 people and leading to 1,155 hospitalizations. |

There have been other cases of people having less severe allergic reactions as well. Although this is a concern, it must be put into context. Thousands of people die every year from allergic reactions to peanuts, shellfish, and other common foods. Quite literally, there is someone, somewhere who is probably allergic to almost any food. Considering that hundreds of millions of cups of chamomile tea are consumed yearly, it only can be seen as a very safe herb. |

She not only could do the work in the horse barn but also was no longer fearful of suffering from allergic reactions to the hay, mold, and dust. Instead of limping off to bed shortly after dinner, she was staying up until 11:00 and 12:00 at night. I was now the one who headed to bed before my mate.
What had happened? I was dumbfounded. If I had not been an eyewitness to this transformation, I would have never believed it. Was it possible that some "weird vitamins" had restored my wife's health when all the medical expertise and medications could not help? |

There have been rare reports of allergic reactions to coriander.
Range and Appearance
Coriander is an annual or biennial, native to the Mediterranean region and Asia, that grows in the wild in disturbed areas but is often cultivated in the home garden. The plant reaches a height of 3 feet. The leaves are pinnate; the lower leaves are ovate with scalloped edges, and they become more finely divided as they progress up the stem. The flowers are white or pink and grow in umbels; the tiny seeds are globular in shape. |

Contraindications
There are no known harmful side effects from long-term use of devil's claw, though there have been some reports of allergic reactions to the plant. It may take a couple of weeks to notice results. |
| Rare cases of allergic reactions have been reported. Those with a compromised immune system, such as might result from lupus, should use echinacea only under the advice of a qualified health-care professional. Echinacea can be taken frequently (every couple of hours) during acute infection, but this sort of dosing should be undertaken only for a few days. Herbalists disagree about the effectiveness of the herb's long-term use; many recommend taking it for cycles of ten days to three weeks, with breaks in between, while others recommend it for continuous long-term use. |
| There have been rare reports of allergic reactions affecting the throat, lungs, or skin.
Range and Appearance
Shiitake, native to China, is a light amber fungi with ragged gills. Its stem can be central or off-center. It grows on fallen broadleaved trees such as beech, chestnut, oak, maple, walnut, and mulberry. Kits that allow you to grow your own shiitakes are commonly available. |

It is possible, however, that the cerebral allergic reaction causes a leakiness in blood vessel walls, which is common in other types of allergic reactions. In the brain, a slightly leaky blood vessel (far short of what would cause a stroke) could conceivably affect nearby brain tissue.
Often, you can identify food allergies by asking yourself what foods you crave or can't imagine living without. The most likely culprits are foods containing wheat or dairy ingredients. |

| The original FDA approval for rDNA insulin was obtained primarily by showing that a product was needed for those few diabetics who had allergic reactions to animal insulin. Within a comparatively short time, it became a foregone conclusion that all diabetics were having allergic and antibody responses to animal insulins. From that point on, the promotional dogma became: "Why would any human diabetic want to take anything but human insulin? |

Anti-inflammatory Effects: Animal and in vitro studies suggest lavender oil inhibits immediate-type allergic reactions by inhibition of mast cell degranulation (Kim & Cho, 1999). Lavender oil, in concentrations of 1 % or more, showed antiinflammatory action in mouse inflammation models.
Antilipidemic Effects: D-limonene and perillyl alcohol (minor components of lavender oil) mildly reduce cholesterol by suppressing hepatic 3-hydroxy-3- methylglutaryl-coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase activity. This enzyme is involved in a rate-limiting step of cholesterol synthesis (Elson & Yu, 1994). |
| General: Health risks or side effects following the proper administration of designated therapeutic dosages are not recorded. allergic reactions following intake of Fennel have been only very rarely observed. Cross Sensitivity among patients with celery allergy appear to be possible.
Pregnancy: Preparations, excluding the drug itself and tea infusions are not to be administered during pregnancy.
Pediatric Use: Preparations, excluding the drug itself and tea infusions are not to be administered to small children. |

DOSAGE
Mode of Administration: The minced bulb and preparations are for internal use and external treatment. Garlic oil in the form of a maceration or as a result of steam distillation is widely available.
Preparation: Garlic oil maceration - bulbs are homogenized and stirred in fatty oil (1:1) for 48 hours, and filtered.
Solid garlic extract - an extraction of the chopped bulbs with ethanol or methanol is allowed to evaporate.
Aqueous extract - fresh bulbs are macerated in cold water (1:1). |
| PRECAUTIONS AND ADVERSE REACTIONS
No health hazards or side effects are known in conjunction with the proper administration of designated therapeutic dosages. allergic reactions have been observed in rare cases. Rare side effects include Stevens-Johnson syndrome, which involves a total body rash and peeling that could be fatal, and crystal formation in the urine, which can lead to kidney damage. |

Human insulin therapy may be associated with hypoglycemia, worsening of diabetic retinopathy [non-inflammatory disorders of the retina], lipodystrophy [changes in fat metabolism], skin reactions (such as injection site reaction, pruritus [itching], and rash) allergic reactions, sodium retention, and edema [swelling due to fluid accumulation]. |

Side effects of Cisapride include diarrhea, nausea, headache, stuffy nose, constipation, and coughing; more rarely it can cause changes in vision, chest pain, mental/mood changes, stomach pain, dizziness, fainting, irregular heartbeat, or allergic reactions.
