These include the frontal sinuses, the maxillary sinuses, two sinus cavities located between the nasal cavity and eye sockets, and the collection of air spaces in the large, winged bone behind the nose that forms the central part of the base of the skull.
Sinusitis is an inflammation of the nasal sinuses that usually accompanies upper respiratory infections. This ailment is most frequently caused by bacterial infections, although it may be caused by viral infections as well. Smoking, irritating smells or fumes, nasal injuries, and growths in the nose may cause chronic sinusitis. |

LEVOFLOXACIN (lee-voe-FLOKS-uh-sin) Brand Names: Levaquin, Quixin
About Levofloxacin
The maxillary sinus is one of four groups of sinuses (hollow areas) in the facial bones. The sinuses help reduce the weight of the bones while keeping them strong.
The sinuses are lined with membranes, which produce a sticky substance (mucus) that traps dirt and other particles in a form that can easily be expelled from the body. The sinuses have tiny slots through which excess mucus, trapped bacteria, and other foreign particles can drain. |

| Try these tips for sinus success.
• Dissolve half a teaspoon of salt in 8 ounces of warm water. Use a bulb syringe to gently flush your nose twice a day.
• Drape a warm, wet washcloth over your sinuses or lean over a steaming sink to clear up your airways.
• Don't blow your nose. This can send bacteria into your sinuses. Take an antihistamine instead.
• Let the tears come. Crying relieves stress and pent-up pressure in your sinuses.
• Hum a favorite tune. Swedish researchers found that humming can keep your sinuses clear and healthy.
• Exercise moderately to improve your air flow. |
| Sinusitis may give you a headache first thing in the morning, painful sinus pressure at night, or pain when you bend over. Your nasal discharge might be yellowish green or gray and you may have a sore throat from postnasal drip.
There are two main kinds of sinusitis. Acute sinusitis usually follows a cold or flu and lasts less than a month. Chronic sinusitis can be caused by allergies or abnormalities in your nose. It's milder than the acute form, but it can last for several months. |

The scan can reveal radiographic evidence of chronic sinus infection, usually seen as a thickening of the sinus linings. A chronic infection of this kind, as is the case with so many infections, can produce chronic fatigue and many of the ancillary symptoms. When evidence for chronic sinusitis is found, I refer the patient to an ear, nose, and throat specialist for treatment.

You'll know you have a sinus infection if you feel stuffed-up and tired, if your face is tender and swollen, and if headache pain and pressure increase when you bend over. Thick, yellow-green mucus is another sign. With a simple cold, the mucus is generally clear.
Dr. Ivker has been treating people with sinus problems for over thirty years. In that time, he's seen sinusitis increase to epidemic proportions, and he places the blame on air pollution.

Levofloxacin is one of the antibiotics used to treat infection of the maxillary sinus (maxillary sinusitis). The drug works by preventing the invading bacteria from forming new DNA and replicating.
In addition to maxillary sinusitis, levofloxacin is used to treat chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, and skin and urinary tract infections caused by bacteria. It's also used for bacterial conjunctivitis (inflammation of the inner surface of the eyelids). |

For example, the paranasal sinuses are found in Energetic Integrator 1, but the frontal sinus is in Energetic Integrator 5 and the maxillary sinuses are in 11. It would be much too complex to try to pinpoint the actual distortion in the body-field for every part of the body. Instead, Harry and Peter reasoned, they could deal with the distortion of the larger structure—the entire Integrator—within which that specific information flowed. |

| Once the sinus cavities are closed off, they become warm, moist havens for bacteria growth, leading to sinus infections. The proximity of the sinuses to the brain makes such sinus infections potentially dangerous.
To minimize the effects of sinusitis, many sufferers find relief by placing warm compresses or heating pads against the painful areas on their face. Some sufferers also find that nasal sprays comprised of saline water also offer some relief (these spray bottles are available in most drug stores as "Ocean Mist" or similar products). |

Getting vitamin C from fresh foods in the treatment of sinus infections is a plus, and broccoli, rich in C, along with other foods (like berries and citrus fruits), is eaten to both treat and prevent sinus problems. Used as a base of various juice blends, broccoli has long been advocated for relieving symptoms of herpes outbreaks. Now some scientists believe they may have found out why. |

| Avoiding sinus Infections
What triggers sinus headaches is unknown, though many researchers suspect they may be caused by allergies or environmental pollution. Regardless of the trigger, anyone who's experienced one of these painful headaches knows they're worth avoiding.
The sinuses are mucus-lined air cavities in the facial bones and are connected j together by passages extending from the sinus cavities to the nose. The sinuses help warm and moisten inhaled air, thereby bringing the air temperature closer to that of the body before the air reaches the lungs. |

| Most patients can control sinus discomfort, regardless of the underlying cause, and lower the risk of infection by reducing or eliminating congestion. Best approaches...
•Drink water—at least eight glasses each day. It thins mucus in the sinuses and promotes normal drainage. This is especially important if you have a cold or an allergy flare-up.
•Don't take over-the-counter (OTC) antihistamines or decongestants. They dry mucus and impede normal drainage.
•Ask your doctor about sumatriptan (Imi-trex). |

Once the lymph is clogged, the body looks for alternative ways to get rid of waste. This usually involves making extra mucous and trying to excrete it through the sinuses. Thus, clearing the throat, especially after eating, are signs of lymphatic congestion. |

Cluster headaches, a type of migraine, typically cause severe pain around or behind one eye. sinus headaches are caused by congestion and possibly infection of the sinuses. The pain is usually in the face, spreading from above the eyes to as far as the gum line. A feeling of pressure is common.
Persistent headaches without a specific cause may be due to your environment or food intake. In this case, start with the Cleanse and Fortify Program described in chapter 4 to bring your body back into balance. After a few days, continue with the Optimal Nutrient Support program to ensure good health. |

Sinusitis
An inflammation of the sinus and nasal passages, sinusitis often leads to sinus infections. Contributory factors are nasal irritants such as exhaust fumes, cigarettes, smoky places, dust, and pollen; allergies, often to dairy products and wheat, which are mucus forming; plus a weakened immune system. Too much alcohol, fried food, or stress; lack of sleep; and overeating all weaken the immune system. Vitamins A and C and zinc, among other nutrients, help boost immunity. Essential fats are also needed to control inflammation. |

He prescribed an anticonvulsant (a medicine that interferes with seizures), and her bouts of sinus tachycardia stopped cold. He then sent her for brain imaging and was aghast to learn that she had a large brain tumor. This brain tumor produced seizures—not the spasmodic twitching usually recognized as a convulsion, but episodes of sinus tachycardia.
There were two terrible things about this case. First, despite the advantage of being a physician's wife, this woman fell through the cracks of classical medicine, was told she had "nothing wrong" with her, and was abandoned as a "crock. |

Most people, of course, try to beat their colds by masking the symptoms with over-the-counter drugs such as cough syrup (a completely useless product), sinus medication (which only dries out your sinuses while doing nothing to fight the infection), or even antibiotics (which are so overprescribed by doctors that they have become a threat to the safety of patients). They end up feeling lousy for 3 - 7 days, and the cold symptoms overtake them from head to toe, landing them in bed and causing them to miss work or family time. |

• pressure around the bridge of your nose or eye sockets, especially in the morning or when leaning over
• low-grade fever with headaches or swollen eyes
• green, gray, or yellow mucus and postnasal drip
• ear or dental pain
