Screening for Cardiovascular Disease
There are two screening procedures that seem to be worthwhile: serum cholesterol and blood pressure. Most medical scientists agree that elevated serum cholesterol (particularly "low density lipoprotein"—LDL) is an important risk factor for coronary disease. During middle age, each 1 % increase in serum cholesterol raises the risk of coronary disease by an estimated 3%. Thus, consistent with the medical model discussed in chapter I, we have an important and objective "sign" of health. |

Some elements are measured in serum because they are transported by serum proteins, or have important extracellular functions in blood. The combination of the whole-blood analysis and the serum analysis provides a comprehensive evaluation of the status of elements. Source: Doctor's Data, Inc. ?

Instructions: Read each question, and then check the box if you answer "yes."
? Do you brush your teeth daily?
? Do you have "silver" dental fillings?
? Have you ever had tooth extractions and/or root canal fillings?

It's important to understand that ordinary tests on blood serum levels don't provide the correct data," says John Dommisse, MD, a nutritional medicine specialist. "What must be measured are whole blood levels." Whole blood analysis, which examines both the serum and the blood cells, is not commonly done, since most mainstream physicians are looking at blood primarily to diagnose a disease and serum testing is generally adequate for that purpose. |

An extract of ginger was used to determine the effect on serum cholesterol and triglycerides, as well as platelet thromboxane-B2 (a marker of inflammation) and PGE2. After four weeks of oral administration at a dosage level of 500 mg/kg, there was a significant reduction of serum PGE, thromboxane-B2, and serum cholesterol. There was no change in serum triglycerides. |

An investigation was designed by researchers at the University of Puerto Rico and San Juan City Hospital to identify pollutants in the blood serum of Puerto Rican girls with premature thelarche.25 Forty-one serum samples from thelarche patients and thirty-five control samples were analyzed. No pesticides or their metabolite residues were detected in the serum of the study or control subjects. However, significantly higher levels of phthalates were identified in twenty-eight (68 percent) samples from thelarche patients. |

In an in vitro (test tube) study, ginger extract significantly inhibited the production and activation of two inflammatory compounds, TNF-alpha and COX-2, making it an appropriate anti-inflammatory herb, particularly in the treatment of arthritis.12
Is It Safe?
At prescribed dosage levels, ginger has no recorded problems of significance, and no drug actions have been recorded. |

This diminishes the liver's production of both serum albumin and clotting factors. serum albumin is the most common and abundant protein in the blood, responsible for maintaining plasma osmotic pressure at its normal level of 25mmHg. Clotting factors are essential for the coagulation of blood. Insufficient osmotic pressure cuts down the supply of nutrients to the cells, including those of the reproductive organs. This may lead to reduced lymph drainage. |

Whole blood analysis, which examines both the serum and the blood cells, is not commonly done, since most mainstream physicians are looking at blood primarily to diagnose a disease and serum testing is generally adequate for that purpose. As most mainstream physicians are oriented toward using drugs to treat symptoms, they have no interest in nutritional status and are thus not informed about or inclined to order the proper tests.
In addition to whole blood analysis, a variety of other test procedures can help assess nutrient status. |

For six months the dogs are only fed the food being tested. In order for the dogs to finish the test, they must not lose more than 15 percent of their body weight. In addition, in order for the test to be valid, according to AAFCO standards, six of the eight dogs starting the feeding trial must finish the test and the dogs cannot lose more than 15 percent of their starting body weight. That is the complete criteria for AAFCO feeding trials. |

And neopterin—a substance found in humans that appears to play an important role in the human immune system—has been isolated from royal jelly.

Zinc
This mineral is essential for the normal functioning of vitamin D. Low serum zinc levels were found in the serum and bones of patients with osteoporosis.20
Prevention of Osteoporosis
I promise you this: you do not want to get osteoporosis. I have treated several patients suffering from severe cases. It is a debilitating, painful disease. They seem to suffer continual fractures of the spine and are in extreme pain for long periods of time. As I've mapped out, osteoporosis is not simply a disease arising from a lack of calcium and estrogen. |

Since screening began, there has been a significant decline in heart disease. Yet during the same time, dietary knowledge, especially related to the danger of excessive animal fat, has incteased. And smoking has declined significantly. So it is difficult to isolate the direct effect of screening on cardiovascular health, or even on serum cholesterol levels. |

In newborn or fetal calves, serum is packed with nutrients and growth factors, far more than the blood serum from adults. A needle injected into the newborn or fetal calf draws out the blood. The serum is extracted from the blood and filtered, then bottled and frozen. Another type of food for drug-making microorganisms is a beef broth. Commonly used to grow bacteria, it is based on peptone, created through the chemical treatment of milk or meat. When the cells are harvested, they are washed to remove the serum or nutrient broth. Eating hemp seeds gives the body all the essential amino acids required to maintain health, and provides the necessary kinds and amounts of amino acids the body needs to make human serum albumin and serum globulins like the immune enhancing gamma globulins.51
Of all plants in the vegetable kingdom, hemp protein has the closest resemblance to our human protein profile. Hemp seeds contain all the essential amino acids and essential fatty acids necessary to maintain a healthy human life.
Recently, the Canadian government lifted a 50-year ban on the growing of hemp. |
