Metal Ion Cofactor
Metal ion cofactors include: cobalt, copper, iron, manganese, molybdenum, nickel, and zinc.
Figure 12-1 How metal ions fit into metalloenzymes. contributes to the catalytic activity of many of these enzymes. In another role, zinc is important for the synthesis, storage, and release of insulin in the pancreas. |

SIGNIFICANT FACT
If your taste in music leans more toward heavy metal than light rock, the metallic taste may be an unexpected result of another one of the latest trends—tongue piercing with a small metal barbell. It can also be a tip-off that your tongue—or even your gums or nose—is bleeding. The iron in your blood gives off a metallic taste.
A metallic taste can be a warning sign that old metal dental fillings may be leaching into your mouth and it's time to get new ones. |

All wheelchair patients who have been tested for metal poisoning tested positive for thallium. Many people who were in a wheelchair several years after they received metal fillings, completely recovered after all metal was removed from their mouths. Thallium is lethal at a dose of 0.5 to 1.0 gram.
Other elements contained in metal fillings are known for their cancer-producing (carcinogenic) effects. These include nickel, which is used in gold crowns, braces, and children's crowns, and chromium. All metals corrode (including gold, silver, and platinum), and the body absorbs them. |

A metallic taste can be a warning sign that old metal dental fillings may be leaching into your mouth and it's time to get new ones. If your cavities are filled with several different metals (as many of them are a combination of mercury, silver, and others), it's like having a mini battery in your mouth. The mixed metals create a chemical or electrical reaction that produces a metallic taste, or even a shock. The tinny taste can also signal dry mouth or that you're on an excessively high-protein, low-fat diet. (See Bad Breath, below. |

Get a new bed: Kingston notes that if you have a metal bed frame or a mattress with metal springs and your bed sits over an area of geopathic stress, "the metal will conduct the harmful radiation throughout the bed."31 She recommends trading in your heavy metal box springs for a wood-framed bed with a natural cotton mattress. |

The treatment doesn't cause any favorable response for three to four days because in order for zinc to get into the brain or any other tissue that requires it, it needs a metal carrier, a type of protein that carries metals. That protein is metallothionein. We need to have enough of the protein carrier to help move the zinc to where it's needed in the body. It usually takes several days for the body's extra levels of zinc to facilitate the production of higher amounts of metallothionein. |

Women with breast cancer have often accumulated large amounts of dissolved metals in their breasts. Once the mouth is cleared of all metals, they will also leave the breasts. Likewise, most cysts will shrink and disappear by themselves. |

Replace All metal Tooth Fillings
Metal dentalware is a constant source of poisoning and, possibly, allergic reaction in the body. All metal corrodes in time, especially in the mouth where high concentrations of air and moisture are always present. Mercury amalgam fillings release their extremely toxic compounds and vapor into the body, a reason why German dentists are prohibited by law from giving them to pregnant women. This product has been banned in a number of European countries.
If mercury is considered dangerous for a mother and her baby, it must be considered dangerous for everyone. |

It does so in three ways: The first is that acupuncture needles are stainless steel, with a handle made of a second, different metal. Two dissimilar metals, in the presence of an electrolyte solution like saltwater, generate an electrical current When placed in a salt solution, such as in human tissue, the two metals generate a small electrical current electrolytically
After a few seconds in the body, the tip of the needle is warmer than the handle by as much as 25 degrees Fahrenheit. The differ ing thermal gradients stimulate a transfer of electrons from one to the other. |

Heavy metal Toxicity
Heavy metal toxicity is another possibility that should be considered when diagnosing and treating fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. Heavy metal toxicity wreaks havoc with one's immune system. Heavy metals include:
1. Lead
2. Mercury
3. Arsenic
4. Nickel
5. Cadmium
Heavy metals are toxins that can come from numerous sources, including industrial pollutants (in the air, water and soil) and dental fillings.
It is imperative for every patient with fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, or any other chronic illness to be screened for heavy metal toxicity. |

Toxic metal Exposure
Exposure to toxic metals, such as cadmium, mercury, and lead, can result in altered thyroid hormone metabolism. Researchers have concluded that heavy metal toxicity damages antioxidant enzyme systems that protect cell membranes from lipid peroxidation. Increased lipid peroxidation in the presence of heavy metals can affect thyroid gland function and peripheral conversion of thyroid hormones.11
Stress
Low thyroid function often is triggered after trauma or grief and may act as a coping mechanism for a stressful situation. |

Harmful Metals and Chemicals
Conventional dental amalgams or "silver" fillings are actually made of tin, copper, silver, nickel, zinc, and the toxic metal mercury. These fillings disintegrate over time, and in some instances, have been shown to release these metals into the body, affecting the bones and the central nervous system and brain. Evidence now shows that mercury amalgam fillings are the major source of mercury exposure for the general public, at rates six times higher than those found in fish and seafood.9 One of the symptoms of mercury toxicity is disturbed sleep. |

Since I have had the metal taken out of my mouth, I now always use food-grade 3% hydrogen peroxide in a spray bottle for my dental hygiene. If you have metal fillings in your mouth, do not use hydrogen peroxide as it can draw metal and mercury ions into your salivary environment, thus degrading fillings and exposing one to heavy metal toxicity. Of important note here is that a mouth environment of high acidity and a diet high in sugar are relatively incapable of damaging teeth without the aid of plaque-forming streptococci bacteria. |

Heavy metal Toxicity_
Thousands of tons of toxic industrial wastes invade our air, water, soil, and food supply annually. Included among these wastes are heavy metals such as lead, mercury, arsenic, and cadmium. Both acute and chronic low-level exposure to heavy metals have been found to cause a host of problems, such as hyperactivity, aggression, insomnia, anxiety, depression, and reduced cognitive function.

Because too much metal is bad for us, the body has evolved ingenious ways of regulating its presence with substances called metallothioneins. A metallothionein is a small protein, rich in sulfur-containing amino acids, that is made in the liver and kidneys in response to the presence of metals such as zinc, mercury, cadmium, and copper, and that binds them tightly, rendering them harmless.
Why is this of concern in cancer chemotherapy? Because there is one type of anticancer drug that has a metal, platinum, at its core. |

Ceramic knives are an excellent alternative to steel because they do not lead to browning in fruits and vegetables due to oxidation caused by the metal, nor is there any subtle metallic taste imparted to the food. They will also last months, or even years, without sharpening. Ceramic is a very hard material, but brittle; these knives are susceptible to breakage if care is not taken in their use and handling.

"Now each of these five ancients set in motion the primordial spirit from which he had proceeded, so that water and earth sank downward; the heavens soared aloft and the earth became fast in the depths. Then the water gathered into rivers and lakes, and the mountains and plains appeared. The heavens cleared and the earth divided; then there were sun, moon, and all the stars, sand, clouds, rain, and dew. |

In test tube experiments, vitamin C can interact with some free metal ions, such as iron, to produce potentially damaging free radicals. However, free metal ions are not generally found in the body. Supplemental vitamin C has not been found to promote these free radicals inside a human body.
Generous amounts of vitamin C keep us healthy and protect us from illness in many ways.
