Even edta, which is much less toxic then DMPS and DMSA may not be appropriate for treating low-level lead exposures because it can be toxic in that it increases excretion of some essential metals. edta produces substantial diuresis of zinc and a temporary 30-40% decrease in plasma zinc.10
In the 21s' century the center of pharmacology needs to be shifted away from medicines that add to people's already heavy toxic burdens, to medicines and protocols that reduce these burdens. |

In this study, it was found that the presence of edta could increase the toxicity of mercury to tubulin tenfold. But, they were using edta concentration fifty to five hundred times higher than the mercury. They also found that magnesium offered significant protection against this toxicity. Magnesium has been shown to promote normal microtubule formation in the brain, again emphasizing the importance of magnesium in our diet. |

We do not use any edta, anything at all. Everything that we use to preserve would be salt, sugar, honey and grapefruit seed extract.
Mike: What motivated you to create a product line that is purely natural so that you can even eat it?
Ashley: Well, a long time ago I started researching and finding out about all the toxic properties, constituents, and most of the products that I use, I did not even realize because I thought they were all natural. Then I threw everything away and I started to make a few of my own simple recipes. |

This observation enticed that physician and several others to try edta therapy on patients with atherosclerosis who did not have lead toxicity. Some of these doctors reported that edta therapy was of great benefit for a large proportion of their patients, although they were not sure how the treatment worked." 12
Since that time, chelation therapy has been a popular (but extremely controversial) therapy. More than half a million Americans have received chelation therapy. Many of them are convinced that it saved them from amputation, bypass surgery, or even death. |
| More than half a million Americans have received chelation therapy with edta for cardiovascular disease. The term "chelation" is derived from the Greek word for "claw."
EDTA binds to lead and other metals in a way that resembles a claw. The vast majority of cardiovascular patients treated with chelation therapy have reported a reduction in symptoms, and more than 80% have shown improvement by objective testing.13 Several studies have demonstrated that chelation therapy opens up blocked arteries; for that reason, this treatment is often likened to a chemical "Drano. |

Oral chelation with edta would make more sense, since a significant amount of the body's circulating mercury is excreted into the hepatic circulation (liver) and enters the gastrointestinal tract, primarily the large bowel. |
| Only about 5 percent of oral edta is absorbed.
One commercial product holds promise as a comprehensive oral chelation agent for many heavy metals, including mercury. This product, called Garlic Plus, not only contains edta but also garlic, which has been shown to prevent mercury toxicity to developing embryos and may protect adults as well. Garlic extract has also been shown to efficiently remove mercury from the brain.
Because garlic can effectively remove mercury from the nervous system, I recommend taking aged garlic extract daily. The dose is 300-600 mg three times a day. |

Chelating agents, such as certain flavonoids and edta, bind such ions and decrease their harmful potential.)
Professor Rice-Evans's research has determined that the flavonoids in green tea, which belong to the "catechin" family of flavonoids, have greater efficacy as antioxidants than the same quantity of vitamin C, vitamin E, or beta-carotene. However, it should be noted that flavonoids work synergistically with vitamin C and vitamin E. |

EDTA I.V. slow-drip dose over 3-5 hours is under 3 grams twice a week; 50 mg./kg. of body weight. 12-18 to 24-36 treatments may be required. When undergoing edta Chelation therapy monitor the kidneys 24 hours for Creatine and BUN clearance, which usually gives better-functioning kidneys after therapy. Possible Chelation side effects to monitor include hypocalcemia (physician is prepared to administer I.V. Calcium); may lower blood pressure; may induce hypoglycemia (eat during therapy), dizziness, nausea, mouth skin tingling, injection site burning, and/or copious urination. |

This test involves introducing a specific chelating agent (i.e., edta, DMSA, and PMPS are the common ones today) to drive poisonous metals such as mercury, cadmium, arsenic, lead, and aluminum out of the body?from muscles, bones, fat, and organs. These powerful chelating agents will pull toxins into the urine, where they can be excreted and measured. Challenge tests help people determine their heavy metal load. But formal chelation therapy aside, you can benefit from a general heavy metal cleanse like the one below to bring your toxic metal load down gradually. |

Chelation therapy is an easily administered alternative to drugs and surgery that involves the infusion into the bloodstream of the amino acid edta, which moves through blood vessels and removes toxic metals. "Chelation therapy is a treatment that has been around for many years," says Dr. Calapai. "It involves using an intravenous application or induction of a protein substance that helps to bind heavy metals, to drag them out and throw them out of the body through the urine. The treatment takes about three hours to perform. |
| He also uses disodium-magnesium edta chelation therapy to remove calcium from soft tissues, where it doesn't belong, and to try to get it back into the bone, where it does belong. The chelation process, which is an intravenous treatment, helps with soft tissue decalcification, in addition to removing heavy metals.
Depression and Other Mental Disorders in Older Adults

Both Chelorex and HMD may not be as "powerful" as synthetic chelators such as DMSA, DMPS, edta etc., in the sense they do not eliminate the more narrow band of metals these synthetic chelators were designed to remove as quickly as these others when applied intravenously, but neither Chelorex or HMD have the side effects of these synthetic compounds.
The main advantage of natural chelators over the synthetic ones is that they do not strip the body of essential minerals, which is common with synthetic chelators. |
| The earliest types of chelation involved synthetic agents such as BAL, penicillamin e and edta administered intravenously for acute toxic metal poisoning. Subsequently, DMSA and DMPS were utilized, first intravenously and later orally and now even transdermally. Chelation therapy provides a relatively safe, effective, and inexpensive alternative to the drugs and surgery often used for circulatory disorders such as coronary heart disease, carotid (neck artery) stenosi (blockage), and leg artery stenosis (blockage). |

Q When supervised by a qualified physician, edta intravenous chelation therapy is safe and causes few side effects.

| A strong substance, edta attracts lead, strontium, and many other metals, as well as calcium. Although there is controversy surrounding the use of this agent, it has not been found to be toxic when used correctly.
Prior to beginning a course of edta chelation therapy, you must undergo a thorough physical examination. This includes a series of laboratory tests, including evaluations of cholesterol, blood, kidney function, liver function, glucose, and electrolytes. In addition, electrocardiogram and chest x-rays are routinely performed. Other studies often assess vitamin B12 and mineral status. |

However, numerous negative side effects are associated with each of these chelators (with the exception of edta which is 'relatively' safe) including allergic reactions involving the skin and mucous membranes (itching, exanthema or rash), as well as occasional cases of Stevens-Johnson Syndrome or erythema exudative multiforme.(11). |

Intravenous Treatments for
Cardiovascular Health_
There are several intravenous treatments that have proven very effective in the cardiovascular arena. edta chelation therapy is crucial, I believe, for treating coronary artery disease and arterial sclerosis. I have seen many people who were about to receive coronary bypass operations, or some other drastic treatment, improve tremendously, even dramatically, using chelation therapy. |

In addition to edta, physicians frequently administer supplements—including vitamin C, magnesium, and trace minerals—with the intravenous infusion, depending on the individual's particular illness and the results of the laboratory studies.
Recommendations
Q| While undergoing edta chelation therapy, be sure to take supplemental vitamins and minerals, particularly zinc, chromium, and the B-complex vitamins. This is important, as chelation agents are known to bind with and remove certain vitamins and minerals from the body. |

He was then started on a series of 30 edta intravenous infusions administered at approximately weekly intervals over a period of 7 months. Each treatment was transfused over a period of 3-5 hours.
Other post-chelation urine studies were performed over a period of time and showed urine lead level of 39, 40, and 50 mg/24 hours, respectively. Complete blood counts, urinalysis, and chemistry profile were done throughout the treatment and showed no adverse effects of the treatment. |

Manganese
The body contains 10 to 20 mg of manganese. About 45% is absorbed from food, and 4 mg daily is excreted. The diet provides 2 to 9 mg.
Manganese deficiency is associated with growth impairment, abnormalities in bone, diabetic-like carbohydrate changes, incoordination, tardive dyskinesia, and convulsions. Zinc alone increases copper excretion in schizophrenics threefold; adding manganese increases the excretion even more. Giving zinc alone may induce a manganese deficiency. |
| It is inhibited by phosphates, phytate, oxalate, and edta, a substance used as a preservative. It may be deficient in cases of malabsorption and after gastrectomy.
About one quarter of the female population is iron deficient. Women lose 50% more iron than men. Iron deficiency causes anemia, which is easily diagnosed. In men, there is danger of too much iron, which can cause hemochromatosis (a condition characterized by iron overload in the tissues). On the average, men need about 10 mg daily and women about 20 mg during the childbearing years. |
| Deficiency is very common: it has been dissolved (leached) out of soils; it has been removed by centuries of cropping; it has been removed from grains by processing; it dissolves in cooking water; and it is removed by chelating agents, such as edta, added to food. Zinc deficiency causes a large number of symptoms, including stria, stretch marks in men and women, retarded growth of skin appendages, white areas in the nails, and acne. |

DIABETIC RETINOPATHY
Hyperglycemia will eventually cause the retinal cells to have an accumulation of sorbitol through the polyol pathway, which causes an increase in osmosis. The high levels of sorbitol are not easily able to diffuse out of the cell in which it is produced. This causes a high osmotic swelling, in which water will enter the cell. |
