The "Gaps Analysis" Report to Health Canada April 21,1998 On April 21, 1998, a scientific team of Health Canada's Directorate, headed by Dr. Shiv chopra, released a "Gaps Analysis" Report criticizing the continued approval of rBGH by Health Canada. The Report detailed a wide range of scientific evidence which Health Canada had failed to consider, particularly the publications by Dr. Epstein who worked closely with Dr. chopra, as the basis for its continued approval of the use of rBGH since its authorization by the FDA in 1993.

Chopra et al., 2003). The function of PI has been diversified further by a duplicated and tightly linked gene, P2 (Zhang et al., 2000). Although the expression of PI can be observed in kernel and silk tissues, the expression of P2 is restricted to silks (Zhang et al., 2003b). Pigmentation phenotypes produced by the browning of cut silks (silk browning) has led to the identification of the role of the P2 gene in silks. Both PI and P2 are equivalent in regulating the silk browning phenotype (Cocciolone et al., 2005).
Making use of a visible pericarp phlobaphene phenotype, chopra et al. (1999) showed that a functional Yl (yellow seedl) gene is required for the biosynthesis of flavan-4-ols in various sorghum tissues, including the seed pericarp and glumes. Unlike the maize PI, functional alleles of Yl also regulate phlobaphene accumulation in leaves. The naming of alleles of Yl has been based on the maize PI nomenclature, such that Yl-rr stands for red pericarp, red glumes.

Because mutations in flavonoid pigmentation genes are nonlethal and confer easily scorable color phenotypes in stems, flowers, and seeds, various flavonoid pigments, including the anthocyanins, proanthocyanidins, and phlobaphenes described here, have served as important traits in elucidating genetic and epigenetic phenomena.

Deepak chopra recommends it for "excessive accumulation of toxic, morbid emotions." On top of that, it also smells great! Sage probably got its reputation as a purifying herb because, along with its sisters in the mint family, it has antimicrobial and antiviral activities. Why? Because of its volatile oil. Oil of sage contains a compound called thujone, an effective agent against both salmonella and Candida. Sage also contains the phenolic acid rosmarinic acid, which is both an antioxidant and an anti-inflammatory.
In addition to cooking with it, you can also mix it into a paste with water and apply it directly to irritated skin (including pimples) before bedtime. chopra also suggests mixing turmeric powder with a little honey and using the mixture to coat your throat at the first sign of a sore throat. So we already know the strong science behind the pharmacy that lives in the turmeric plant. What does traditional Eastern medicine say about it? The lecture texts read as a kind of self-help—popular science hybrid cross between Deepak chopra and Carl Sagan. The take-home lesson was simple: American buildings, private and public, are overheated, underventilated breeding grounds of ill health, places where disease and disability fester. Victorian hygienists often invoked the Black Hole of Calcutta as the ultimate example of adequate ventilation denied.

Dr. Chopra's assessment of the limits of chemistry is one that is finding grudging acceptance among many biologists. One of the difficulties that confronts scientists in moving from chemistry to physics when analyzing the body is not their intellectual capacities or any inadequacies with their instrumentation, but their method of questioning. To paraphrase Albert Einstein, we can only find answers to the questions we choose to ask. Our questions are limited by our world-view, our paradigm.

Its most prominent advocate is a charismatic, Harvard-trained doctor named Deepak chopra, MD, who has written several best-selling books on the topic. chopra claims that Ayurvedic medicine is the world's oldest medical tradition, but that it has particular relevance to modern times. Many people were amazed when the sober voice of organized medicine, JAMA, carried a highly favorable article on Ayur-veda by chopra and others in May 1991 (1). The article was later attacked as a "marketing scheme" and a hoax within the pages of JAMA itself (2,3).

When we listened to Chopra's tape set, Magical Mind Magical Body, we were spurred on by his comments. He described quantum physics understanding of the human being as paralleling that of Ayurveda, ancient India's science of life. Chopra said that while western medicine tends to focus on the body as the ultimate reality, quantum physics views the body as predominantly empty space.
