CNN Health Story Promotes Pizza, Ice Cream, Burgers as "Great for Your Waist"

Mike Adams, the Health Ranger
See article keywords and concepts
On January 2, 2008, cnn Health posted a story that claims pizza, burgers, Canadian bacon and ice cream are diet-friendly and good for your waist line! Did they mean it's good for watching your waist line grow to an ever-expanding size? No, they actually mean these foods are good for slimming your waist line! The article was brought to my attention by a concerned NewsTarget reader. When I first saw it on CNN's website, I thought was a hoax. But it's no hoax. Turns out it was written by Health Magazine!
That fact alone should make you wonder exactly what's going on over at Health Magazine (as well as cnn Health). It seems that the people writing these articles are nutritional idiots who know nothing about the correlation between food and health. Where to begin with dissecting this awful piece of so-called reporting? Listen to my audio podcast on this topic (free!) for an audio-powered smackdown of CNN's nutritional nonsense: http://www.newstarget.com/podcasts/HRR_017_Badfoods_48.mp3 Let's start with the Canadian bacon.
As you can clearly see here, neither Health Magazine nor cnn has any clue about the links between food choice and weight loss. You want to know how to really lose weight? Avoid all animal products, period (no meat, milk, cheese, etc.) Avoid all processed foods, period (no factory-made products) Eat fresh produce: Veggies, fruits, nuts and seeds Eat superfoods and juice your produce on a regular basis That's the recipe for lasting weight loss. You certainly don't lose weight by eating pizza, ice cream and burgers.
CNN's nutritional nonsense: http://www.newstarget.com/podcasts/HRR_017_Badfoods_48.mp3 Let's start with the Canadian bacon. Made with sodium nitrite, Canadian bacon is a processed meat that's directly linked to increased risks of pancreatic cancer, colon cancer, leukemia and other cancers. The increased risk of heart disease and cancer from eating processed meats is so large that the World Cancer Research Fund recently made a bold announcement and warned that processed meats should be avoided by everyone. There is no safe level of consumption of processed meats, the WCRF says.
Contact cnn and Health Magazine using the links given above and let them know what you think about their lousy health journalism. And when you read health articles from any mainstream news source or magazine, keep your skeptical thinking cap on. Remember: The bigger the news organization, the less credibility they have. (Because they have to please all their big advertisers...
Bad foods that are actually great for your waist" The main points to get across to the cnn editors are: The article promotes processed junk foods that actually cause weight GAIN, not weight loss. Recommending that readers eat more junk foods is irresponsible journalism. It misleads readers into pursuing unhealthful lifestyles that will only result in more weight gain and the development of degenerative disease. Many of the foods recommended in the article are well documented to promote cancer, diabetes, heart disease and other serious health problems.

In its original report, cnn reported BMJ's claim and Lilly's denial that the papers had ever been missing. The London-based BMJ, formerly called the British Medical Journal, did not retract its contention that the documents show the antidepressant is linked to increased risk of suicide or violence. "All we have retracted is the statement that these documents went missing," wrote acting editor Kamram Abbasi, in an e-mail to cnn.

On January 2, 2005, cnn reported that an internal document purportedly from Eli Lilly and Co. revealed that the drug maker had data more than 15 years ago showing that patients on its antidepressant, Prozac, were far more likely to attempt suicide and show hostility than were patients on other antidepressants. For obvious reasons, the company attempted to minimize public awareness of the drug's side effects. The document was provided to cnn by the office of Rep. Maurice Hinchey, D-New York, who has called for tightening FDA regulations on drug safety.

In an interview on cnn, Val DiFebo of Deutsch said of the Dot ad: "What we thought was important here was to have Dot communicate to people how Dot was feeling." Of the Dot ad campaign in general, DiFebo said, "You're going to see them when you wake up in the morning and when you go to bed at night, because we know that's where you are and we want you to see these ads."108 Dot has had a wide impact. Dot has inspired a "Bouncy, the Zoloft Dot" fan listing on the Web (in which one fan wrote she wished that Dot was available as a stuffed animal) and articles in The New York Times.
And cnn reports in 2007 that nearly a third of veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan come home with psychiatric or psychosocial ills. (Posttraumatic stress disorder led the way, accounting for almost half of all diagnoses, followed by anxiety, adjustment disorders, depression, and substance abuse disorders.)28 In the aftermath of each of those events, there has been extensive media coverage, discussion, and debate about the mental health of the victims.

Study "Disproving" Mercury-Autism Link Published in Journal with Financial Ties to Vaccine Manufacturers

Mike Adams, the Health Ranger

This is such sloppy cause/effect logic that it makes the idiot cnn Health editors who published a story about "junk foods being good for your waist" look like sheer geniuses! What's wrong with the logic? Consider the use of mercury in the vaccines: It was used as a preservative chemical to prevent vaccine spoilage. When the mercury was removed, it was replaced with other preservative chemicals that are also toxic to the human nervous system. Thus, the continuing increase in autism rates following vaccination may be due to the toxic chemicals that replaced thimerosal.

Some twenty years after the incident, Bliss told CNN's Jeff Flock he had absolutely no idea he was spreading poison. The folks in the factory in Verona where he picked up the oil had been running around in cutoffs and sandals. He noticed a gooey residue on the floor and learned that they made ladies' face cream and soap. There was no reason to think anything could be wrong with oil left over from making facial cleanser. Looking back on the entire episode, Bliss finds plenty of blame to spread around. Like I try to tell anybody, I never produced, generated one drop of this stuff.

It seems as if nobody at Fox News, ABC News, Reuters, cnn and other media outlets even bothered to read the actual study beyond the abstract summary. The mainstream media has failed the American people yet again. Rather than investigating the story and printing the truth, they have simply repeated misleading information put out by an organization with an obvious pro-pharma agenda. Some might say these media outlets know exactly what they're doing: They, too, earn billions of dollars each year from drug company advertisements.
Today, NewsTarget announces a grassroots action campaign to demand retractions, corrections or clarifications from major media outlets -- Fox News, ABC News, cnn, Reuters, WebMD and more -- all of which printed incorrect, incomplete or misleading statements concerning the results of an antioxidant study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine. The study clearly showed that women who took vitamins E and C experienced a statistically significant and rather remarkable reduction in risk of heart attacks (22 percent reduction), strokes (31 percent reduction) and other cardiovascular events.

I'll explain how, by exploring volumes of new research that hasn't yet appeared anywhere for the general public.

I had my investigators track down sources at AOL Time Warner, The Smoking Gun, and cnn. My sources tell me that this was a specifically planned way not to expose a major news story, but rather make a major news story out of virtually nothing simply to promote The Smoking Gun website, to increase the number of hits to its website, therefore increasing the revenue it could generate from its advertisers.
It was picked up by all the networks, but primarily by cnn. Larry King had the author on his show for the entire hour. It was talked about, talked about, and talked about over and over again. The amazing thing was that the journalist from The Smoking Gun was also all over the news. I turned on cnn halfway through the night and listened to the news. It was August 23, 2005. Farther south, Hurricane Kat-rina was waiting offshore. Meanwhile, on Fox, reporters said Katrina was going to be a big one—the mother of all storms. But no one knew for sure when it would make landfall. In the morning, I went downstairs to the breakfast buffet. Nothing there was organic. Carlson, I had to say, disappointed me. What an opportunity it had to be a leader in the organic movement. How about some organic fruits and vegetables, an organic fruit spread, or some Organic Valley dairy?
