JAMA accepts millions of dollars in advertising from drug companies each year, and its pages are absolutely packed with drug ads. The american medical association, for its part, has long worked to discredit alternative medicine and has even been found guilty by U.S. federal courts of engaging in a conspiracy to destroy chiropractic medicine. The AMA, which is largely considered a joke by anyone familiar with natural health, is hardly a credible source for publishing scientific findings on nutrition. |

Big Medicine is the modern version of Big Tobacco, and over the last several decades, the american medical association has proudly supported both cigarettes and pharmaceuticals. In my opinion, the AMA is indirectly responsible for the deaths of millions of Americans -- not just from pushing cigarettes but also for continuing to push dangerous pharmaceuticals while discrediting nearly everything in natural medicine or alternative medicine. |
| The same year -- three decades after medical research demonstrated the dangers of cigarettes -- the american medical association finally issued statement on smoking, calling it "a serious health hazard." It was not until 1998 that the CTR was shut down -- and only after the tobacco industry lost a major court case brought forward by states across the country.

| REPPED: Despite its stated mission, "To promote the art and science of medicine and the betterment of public health," the american medical association (AMA) has taken many missteps in protecting the health of the American people. One of the most striking examples is the AMA's long-term relationship with the tobacco industry.
Both the AMA and individual doctors sided with big tobacco for decades after the deleterious effects of smoking were proven. |

Only fools believe research about nutrition that comes from the american medical association or its journal. Conventional medical researchers declaring that vitamins are worthless is about as credible as Bush Administration climatologists claiming there's no such thing as global warming.
With the publication of this research, the distortion of health reality is now complete. According to the Americal Medical Association, vitamins will kill you but pharmaceuticals will make you healthy.

As the american medical association editorial suggests, it is time for us to start a new department. A department to oversee the FDA. This is precisely what I suggested many months ago when I promoted the idea of a Department of Internal Affairs at the FDA. This would be similar to IA offices in local police departments that are charged with investigating police corruption and making sure that those who enforce the law are not themselves breaking the law. Clearly, we need some kind of Department of Internal Affairs at the FDA today. |
| In fact, I believe the FDA's actions to this date are criminal in nature, and that the Justice Department should initiate an investigation to hold key FDA decision makers criminally responsible for the untold death and suffering they have unleashed upon the American public.
The american medical association hasn't gone that far, but they do state that the trust in the FDA has been all but destroyed and that it is impossible for the FDA to investigate itself. The FDA, for its part, denies that it has done anything wrong, and this indeed is part of the problem. |

As discussed in various NewsTarget stories, when the Surgeon General's report finally surfaced in 1964, the american medical association did not endorse the report. Just a month prior, the AMA had accepted $15 million in funding from the tobacco industry. The Journal of the american medical association accepted money from tobacco companies for many years while it ran their full-page advertisements in the journal. |

Yet the american medical association issued a press release implying that the study found antioxidants to be of no use whatsoever, and the mainstream media ran that as de facto news without bothering to assess whether the opinion of the AMA was, in fact, true. (And apparently without actually reading the study in question.)
The american medical association is a pro-pharmaceutical group with a dubious history of promoting extremely dangerous and deadly products. It has taken millions of dollars from tobacco companies, for example, to promote cigarettes in its medical journal (JAMA). |

Branding patients like cattle, American style!
The american medical association has publicly announced its support for the microchipping of patients using tiny RFID transmitters injected under the skin. An AMA spokesperson explained, "The technology will allow us to keep better track of who we've killed," and emphasized that so many patients are now killed by AMA-supported medical procedures that it's becoming difficult to keep the bodies organized. "Thanks to technology, we will soon be able to track patients regardless of whether they've alive or dead," said the spokesperson. |

It's no surprise, then, that the "official" position of both the FDA and the american medical association is perhaps the epitome of medical misinformation:

The Journal, the Archives of General Psychiatry, is the pro-drug psychiatric arm of the american medical association, a pill-pushing organization tarnished by a history of conspiracy against alternative medicine and the promotion of toxic substances like cigarettes with full-page ads in its flagship publication, JAMA.
From the outset, the fact that this study appears in a pro-drug, pro-psychiatry journal should bring pause to any scientific-minded person. |

It's almost as big a deal as when the american medical association, after years of taking millions of dollars from tobacco companies, finally admitted that smoking causes lung cancer and heart disease. (A decade after the scientific evidence was irrefutable, of course, but then again, the AMA was making money off Big Tobacco by running tobacco ads in JAMA...)

What's most interesting about this issue of using the threat of imprisonment to force vaccinations upon children is not necessarily who is speaking out against it, but who has chosen to remain silent.
The american medical association, for example, has said nothing in opposition to the policy. Neither has the Food and Drug Administration. Where is the outrage from the Maryland Hospital Association? None of these organizations seem to have a problem with Gunpoint Medicine. |

No good science supporting safety of triclosan
According to the American Medical Association: "Despite their recent proliferation in consumer products, the use of antimicrobial agents such as triclosan in consumer products has not been studied extensively. No data exist to support their efficacy when used in such products or any need for them…it may be prudent to avoid the use of antimicrobial agents in consumer products."
The chemical company states: "Ciba supports the use of triclosan only if there is a benefit to human beings."
So, what if it is shown to offer no benefit to humans? |

If the american medical association declared water to be harmful to human health, the media would run the story without asking a single question. If the FDA declared all vitamins to be toxic and announced a nationwide ban on all dietary supplements, the mainstream media would fall right into step, parroting whatever scientific half-truths the FDA was spouting at that particular moment. |

We've been told enough times by various groups—the american medical association, for instance, the private insurance industry, and conservative believers in the power of the free market—that government-run medicine is inferior. The fact that it's actually better in many ways than the health care the rest of us receive violates everything we think we know. It's a government-run health care system—socialized medicine—that doesn't have long lines; doesn't ration care; isn't filled with lazy, poorly trained doctors; and costs less per capita than our private system. |

Remember: for decades, doctors and the american medical association actually promoted tobacco as good for your health. Times change. And changes sweep through society faster now than ever before.
Things are trending in a positive direction on issues like natural health, sustainable living and organics. Sure, we have many skirmish battles to fight along the way, and we can never let our guard down against the corporate opposition, but overall, we are witnessing a time of tremendous change made possible by empowered consumers. And you know what's key to that? The Internet. |

To establish the identity of the prescribing doctors, pharmaceutical companies rely on the american medical association (AMA), which maintains a Physician Masterfile on every U.S. physician. Citing the New England Journal of Medicine, the authors wrote, "In 2005, database product sales, including an unknown amount from licensing Masterfile information, provided more than $44 million to the AMA."
Once the high prescribers are identified, the drugs reps are then directed to reward those doctors with attention and gifts. |

But today, the tobacco scam has long since been revealed, and even conventional medicine is now squarely against this substance that they once strongly promoted.
The american medical association, by the way, used to actually run ads for cigarettes in its flagship medical journal, JAMA. Doctors can always be bought off and made to promote whatever poison is making the most money this decade (these people have no shame). In the 1950's, it was cigarettes. Today, it's pharmaceuticals and chemotherapy. Different drugs, same scam. |

What is considered "normal" blood pressure has been modified nearly a dozen times in the past 35 years. The American Medical Association's recommendations now cite anything over 115/70 mm Hg as "high." Just 10 years ago, that number was 140/90 mm Hg, which is actually still quite low. Perhaps, soon everyone with 100/60 mm Hg may be considered at risk. How far do they want to take this deception before everyone is considered to be in the high risk group for hypertension and heart disease?

The EPA says: "Although some scientists dispute the precise number of deaths due to radon, all the major health organizations (like the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the American Lung Association and the american medical association) agree with estimates that radon causes thousands of preventable lung cancer deaths every year.
