The American Diabetes Association
The american diabetes association (ADA) is a national nonprofit organization that provides a variety of support services. The main Web site (www.diabetes.org), for example, has links to help you find a chapter of the ADA in your area, at which you can participate in activities, volunteer for events, and meet other people who have diabetes. The ADA main Web site also offers a link to various message boards that cover such topics as diet, exercise, diabetes in children, being newly diagnosed, and gestational diabetes. |

| In order to speed up approval and acceptance of Human (UL) Ultralente, the product was placed before the FDA, the american diabetes association (financed by diabusinesses), and pushed by the pharmaceutical representatives to doctors because it was just like beef Ultralente without antibody response. The ADA even made a statement in the Wall Street Journal in 1992, claiming that all human insulin was just like animal insulin in terms of activity curves. Recently, the ADA has been forced to recognize activity curve differences. |

Research published in the Archives of Internal Medicine and reprinted on the american diabetes association Web site demonstrated that people following a "Modified Low-Carb Diet" higher in monounsaturated fat lost more weight than a matched group of people following the standard National Cholesterol Education Program diet. And monounsaturated fats are a key component of the Mediterranean diet, which in every major study has been linked with lower rates of heart disease.

Endocrinology Institute of Santa Barbara, is one physician who finds the american diabetes association position insupportable. When the statement came out, Dr. Schwarzbein was president of her local ADA chapter.
"I quit that day," Dr. Schwarzbein recalls. "I refused to have myself quoted saying that refined carbs and sweets were okay. The ADA is saying that it doesn't matter what kind of sugar you eat. They're saying that sugar, simple carbs, complex carbs are all the same. They're not all the same.

What's more, the nonprofit organization Shape Up America!, founded in 1994 by former U.S. Surgeon General C. Everett Koop to help Americans manage their weight, launched a "Diabesity" initiative to combat the pervasive disease.

| Just check out these alarming statistics: ll The prevalence of type 2 diabetes is three to seven times higher in obese people than in normal-weight adults, according to a joint statement by the american diabetes association, the North American Association for the Study of Obesity, and the American Society for Clinical Nutrition in Diabetes Care.
¦ More than 90 to 95 percent of people with diabetes have type 2 diabetes, which, in many cases, can be prevented by working out and losing weight by eating the right foods. |
| Interestingly, the american diabetes association, in a statement in Diabetes Care in 2002, reversed its position on fructose. Although the ADA still allows sucrose, it recommended that diabetics avoid fructose except in the small amounts that naturally occur in fruits or vegetables. The ADA's reason? Because of "concern that fructose may adversely affect plasma lipids."
Both Dr. Sinatra and I applaud the ADA's reversal and we believe that the organization was justified in its recommendation, because compelling research illustrates the harms of chemically derived fructose. |
| Harris for his contributions to medicine by identifying hyperinsulinism or hypoglycemia, the AMA, along with the american diabetes association and the Endocrine Society, sent an alarmist "Statement on Hypoglycemia" to the prestigious Journal of the American Medical Association to rectify "possible widespread misunderstanding."
The letter announced: "Recent publicity in the popular press has led the public to believe that there is a widespread and unrecognized occurrence of hypoglycemia in this country. |

The epidemic of type 2 diabetes is alarming—and more dangerous than many people ever imagine. The disease, which affects 20 million Americans, increases the risk for heart attack and stroke. Complications from the disease include blindness, kidney failure, impotence and poor wound healing that can lead to amputation. |

The american diabetes association (ADA) is and has been the advocacy group most closely associated with diabetes and most trusted by government agencies, the medical profession, and diabetics. (Other chronic diseases are represented/advocated by other organizations.)
The ADA parades movie stars, athletes, and other successful people with diabetes before the camera. These celebrities tell you that you can have a "normal" life and achieve untold success, especially if you —like them —follow guidelines promoted by the ADA. |

In a recent issue of Diabetes Care, The american diabetes association, The American Psychiatric Association, The American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, and some other associations all joined forces to warn about this class of drugs. The reason for this unprecedented move is that the companies which produce these drugs have refused to list their side effects on package labels out of fear that no one will be willing to take the drugs. In 2003 the FDA ordered these companies to do so, but to date, they have not complied. |

Given this evidence, why, then, do the american diabetes association and thousands of doctors encourage their diabetic patients to use aspartame? At least where the american diabetes association is concerned, it may have something to do with the fact that the organization has received large monetary contributions from Monsanto — maker of NutraSweet®!

• Non-nutritive sweeteners are safe when consumed according to FDA guidelines.
• There is no evidence of benefit from vitamin or mineral supplementation.
• Routine supplementation of the diet with antioxidants is not advised. |

Cheers! Moderate Drinking May Cut Diabetes Risk
People who consume one or two standard alcoholic drinks per day are approximately 30% less likely to develop type 2 diabetes than people who don't drink at all. The risk reduction is the same whether a person has one or two drinks.
Caution: Drinking more than three alcoholic beverages a day raises diabetes risk. Ask your doctor if daily alcohol is right for you.

This kind of cowardly approach to health is prevalent across conventional medicine, and it usually involves conflicts of interest with the big corporations funding many of today's most prominent disease organizations. The american diabetes association, for example, accepted millions of dollars from soft drink companies and candy manufacturers. None of these disease organizations have been willing to stand up and tell the truth about nutrition and chemical toxicity. |

Magnesium
The american diabetes association reports that 25 percent of diabetics are magnesium deficient (although other figures place this much higher), and that supplementing with this mineral can improve blood sugar control. Green vegetables such as spinach are good sources of magnesium, because the center of the chlorophyll molecule (which gives green vegetables their color) contains magnesium. Some legumes (beans and peas), nuts and seeds, and whole, unrefined grains are also good sources of magnesium. |
| And, according to the american diabetes association, about a third of people with diabetes don't know they have it—until symptoms become so severe that they can't ignore them any longer.
As you may already know, type 2 diabetes is a high-maintenance disease. |

I believe it's not only a cure for many cancers, it's also a documented, proven cure for type-2 diabetes (a disease the american diabetes association laughingly claims "has no cure"). It can also completely reverse heart disease, depression, most mood disorders, liver disease, kidney stones, chronic inflammation, arthritis, gout, urinary tract infections, asthma and numerous other health conditions.

This fact, combined with the fact that the american diabetes association continues to recommend things like ice cream to diabetics (as long as they regulate their blood sugar with medication!), shows you just how important it is for corporate America to keep the American population just sick enough to need medication, but not so sick that they all keel over and die. |

The American Cancer Society, in my opinion, is a supremely corrupt, big-business front group that actually takes steps to ensure more cases of future cancer by "preventing prevention," the american diabetes association takes money from candy and soda manufacturers, and the American Psychiatric Association is so steeped in Big Pharma money that they've practically become inseparable. Diabetes is a possible side effect of Zyprexa, according to the american diabetes association.69 (Lilly denied that a link between Zyprexa and diabetes has been proven.70 In 2007, however, Lilly added strong warnings to Zyprexa's label, indicating the drug's tendency to cause weight gain, high blood sugar, and high cholesterol.)71 The company has been under federal and state investigation for its marketing practices for Zyprexa.

A high-fat meal impairs the ability of blood vessels to widen (control blood pressure) for at least four hours after a meal. One study found the provision of a powdered fruit-vegetable concentrate can reverse this effect. [J Am College Cardiology 41: 1744-49, 2003]
This is in contrast to another study which showed that 1,000 mg of vitamin C and 800 IU of vitamin E did not improve blood flow following consumption of a high- or low-fat meal. |

And, better yet, the american diabetes association claims there's no link between sugar and diabetes! (Not sure how they can still say that one with a straight face, but they somehow manage it.)
Before nutritional insanity turns the entire nation into a flock of drooling, sugar-addicted trolls, it's time to put some common sense back into the kinds of messages we allow to be broadcast to our children. Perhaps, given that diabetes and obesity are now epidemic among teens, we should stop persuading children to drink and eat the products that make them diabetic and obese. |

I also explain why disease organization like the american diabetes association, the American Heart Association and even the American Cancer Society are, in my opinion, little more than Big Pharma front groups that are far more interested in pushing drugs than curing disease. In my book, I discuss how these groups actually ignore known cures for these diseases and attack alternative medical treatments that offer real solutions. |

Chromium
A Magical Mineral for People with Diabetes
IN 1996, the american diabetes association (ADA) stated that "chromium supplementation has no known benefit in patients who are not chromium deficient."
I mention this statement because it's a great object lesson in why you should be careful about swallowing whole—without a spoonful or so of Celtic salt—any statement that comes from an "official" health organization. This statement by the ADA was not the first time—and certainly won't be the last—that an establishment health organization was completely off the mark. |
