| This alternate eating plan, based largely on Harvard professor Walter C. Willett's book Eat, Drink, and Be Healthy, also promotes fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, but features more specific and logical guidelines.
For example, unlike the USDA pyramid, which lumps all fats together in the "Use sparingly" sliver at the top, the alternate plan distinguishes between good fats and bad fats. The same with carbohydrates and meats. It also includes taking a daily multivitamin.
Another difference - the alternate plan works. |

I'm safe now.
I've connected with some wonderful people. I've learned to ask for help. I've learned boundaries.
You then assess yourself again on a scale from one to ten, and repeat the alternate tapping procedure if you don't feel considerably better. The routine takes around thirty seconds.24

WE live in an alternate universe where logic is reversed, bad is good, nature is dangerous, sunlight will kill you, nutrition is deadly and health is only protected or enhanced by taking more synthetic chemicals.
Wow. If there really is an alternate universe somewhere, and intelligent beings from that place are watching us right now, they probably have an itchy finger on the big red button, and they're asking each other, "Do we let this experiment run a little longer, or have we seen enough? |
| In this alternate universe, logic is reversed, good is bad, and trees grow with their branches stuck in the dirt and their roots stretched high into the air. In this alternate universe -- which we'll call "Allopathia" -- there's lots of health news printed every day just like in our own universe. The difference is that their health news makes no sense.

I have three modest proposals for alternate forms of Reentry by Antidepressants, or by Serotonin Reuptake. Please note that these are not clinical paths. These are not scientific ideas and will not be subjected—indeed, could not be subjected—to any randomized clinical trials. I can readily attest that these ideas will not be published in a professional journal anytime soon. But here are some suggestions of some new ways of looking at things: alternate strategy number one: Reentry by the Healthiness and Sanity of Depression
Healthiness of Depression? How could that be? |

First of all, daily exercise ramps up BDNF more rapidly than alternate days — at a rate of 150 percent versus 124 percent after two weeks. Curiously, after a month, the alternate-day exercisers had caught up with the daily group. When the rats stopped exercising, regardless of the routine, it took just two weeks for levels of BDNF to return to baseline. |

If for some reason it is not possible to assume this position, an alternate is to lie on the right side or on the back.
6 Insert the nozzle gently. If it will not go in all the way, it should do so once the flow of water is begun. It will be necessary to hold the nozzle in place throughout the enema session, as the body will tend to push it out.
Once the nozzle is in place, begin the flow of water from the enema bag into the colon. Regulate the flow of water into the colon so that it enters at a slow rate. Pinching or bending the hose does this. |
| As vitality lowers, the body cannot afford the expenditure of energy required for the alternate elimination, and is forced to store toxins in its tissues. As this continues, toxins are stored in the deeper layers of the tissues where they eventually cause diseases such as arthritis, heart disease, senility, and cancer.
After food has been processed in the small intestine and nutrients extracted for use by the body, the remaining wastes are moved to the large intestine, or colon, before being expelled from the body as feces. |

If both nostrils are blocked, breathe in through your mouth and forcibly out through alternate nostrils until one or other—or both—clear, and you can stop the mouth breathing.
Smoking
Quit now!
Even representatives of the tobacco industry agree that it is sensible for people with asthma to avoid cigarette smoke. Legislation has enforced smoking restrictions in public buildings around the world. Exposure to cigarette smoke, even while in the womb, and particularly during the first year of life is likely to increase a child's risk of developing asthma. |

Stay cool but not too cold. Really cold indoor temperatures can aggravate allergy symptoms.
We can't change the weather to suit us, but by studying its effect on our personal health, and in particular our asthmatic condition, we can adapt our lives to its irregularities.
Temperature
We know sudden temperature changes in our surroundings aggravate asthma, but a less recognised contributor to asthma is dramatic temperature variance in the food we eat and drink. |
| Five minutes a day of alternate nostril breathing will clean out irritants, help you breathe better and strengthen your immunity to allergies. ž Place your index finger on your forehead between your eyebrows, with thumb on one side of your nose and bent middle finger on the other. ž Breathe in through both nostrils. Close one nostril with your finger and breathe out via the other side. ž Breathe in through this same side, close, and release closed nostril, breathe out. ž Breathe in through same side, close, release closed nostril and breathe out. |

Adding epsom salts (magnesium sulphate) and a teaspoon of eucalyptus oil or appropriate essential oil (see pages 141-6) to a warm bath provides your body with much needed minerals and helps drive off colds and chills. |

Even more explicitly, the committee's secretary tartly noted: 'Certainly there has been less exhibition in Ayurveda than in Western medicine of too hasty a promulgation of new and novel theories followed by their subsequent repudiation, and of that alternate enunciation and denunciation of hypotheses which is sometimes mistaken for progress.'37 At least in some eyes, then, a slower rate of medical change could be a healthy sign, rather than evidence of a hidebound dependence on tradition. |

Scientists at the National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST) in Boulder, Colorado, have succeeded in building an 8-qubit quantum computer that literally solves complex mathematical algorithms in an alternate universe, then "renders" the right answer in this one, where the observers are located (no kidding). As a side experiment, the team also recently built a "Bush quantum computer" that sends mathematical challenges and word problems into the alternate universe of the Bush Administration. |

Kneel on all fours, then raise left leg and right arm together and push away from your body, just like a cat stretching. alternate with right leg and left arm and repeat 3-5 times each side. No need to hurry, but do think about breathing out while you are lazily stretching.
11 Lie on your front and do push ups, either from the knees or if you are able to, the feet. Breathe out during each push up, then relax and allow breathing in just to happen. You may only be able to achieve a few push ups, but do as many as you can, remembering to breathe out. Stop, rest and relax before continuing. |

Hesiod, Homer, and Xenophon all described two-field systems with alternate fallow years. It was normal to plow both fallow and planted fields three times a year, once in the spring, once in summer, and again in the autumn righr before sowing. All this plowing gradually pushed soil downhill and left fields bare and vulnerable to erosion. Whereas Hesiod recommended using an experienced plowman who could plow a straighr line regardless of the lay of the land, by later classical times terraces were built to try and retain soil and extend the productive life of hillside fields. |
| The key to sustaining soil fertility was to alternate livestock and crops on the same piece of ground.
Equally important, although it received less attention, was preventing erosion of the soil itself. Markham advised plowing carefully to avoid collecting water into erosive gullies. Good soil was the key to a good farm, and keeping soil on the farm required special effort even on England's gentle rolling hills.
Almost half a century later, on April 29, 1675, John Evelyn presented a "Discourse on Earth, Mould and Soil" to England's Royal Society for the Improvement of Natural Knowledge. |

The leaves are pinnate and alternate. Its flower has a sweeter taste than the Roman variety.
Roman chamomile, native to Europe and northern Africa, is an annual low-growing plant reaching only 8 to 12 inches in height. The leaves are finely divided and doubly pinnate.
The flowers of both species are golden conical disks with white florets; they look similar to daisy flowers.
Chamomile makes an excellent ground cover; it survives being walked upon. As an old saying goes, "Like a chamomile bed, the more it is trodden, the more it will spread."
