Key concepts: DrNatura, Detox and Digestive health

I recently sampled the Toxinout product line from DrNatura and found it to be based on a solid nutritional formulation. This three-product combination includes DetoxiGreen (greens, vitamins and microalgae), Toxinout (minerals, EDTA and liver cleansers like Alpha Lipoic Acid) and Flora Protect (probiotics).

It's an effective combination for detoxification of the liver and digestive tract. Given the toxic build-up of substances in the liver and colon, the regular use of detoxifying foods or supplements is absolutely necessary.

There are a lot of detox products on the market. On a scale of "useless" to "hard-core detox," I rate DrNatura as being somewhere in the middle. It's not the most potent detox I've ever seen (that honor would belong to Baseline Nutritionals), but sometimes a milder detox is more appropriate for consumers.

Remember: The more toxic your liver and digestive tract, the more dangerous an aggressive detox can be. That's why I always recommend pursuing such therapies under the direction of a well-informed naturopathic physician.

It's also important to stop poisoning your body during such a detox. You should stick to a diet of 90% fresh, raw vegetable and fruit juices (in my opinion). If you need hot food, stick to simple hot soups like boiled quinoa. Avoid any starches (potatoes, rice, etc.) during a detox.

Typically, detox therapies should include lots of hydration and infrared saunas which help you sweat out toxins through your skin. Colon hydrotherapy is also recommended. You can get full support during a detox, by the way, at the Tree of Life Rejuvenation Center with Dr. Gabriel Cousens (www.TreeofLife.nu).

DrNatura can be reached at 1-800-877-0414.

Pros: Solid formulation. Toxinout should produce very positive results in most people.

Cons: Doesn't use the very best forms of vitamins (contains cyanocobalamin, for example), and it isn't as potent as many other detox products.
