Vilcabamba Ecuador Living, Homes and Land

A NaturalNews PhotoTour by Mike Adams

The houses built in the U.S. are mostly built out of toothpicks and drywall. They're cheap, energy-inefficient structures that won't last a generation.

But here, most houses are built with rock-solid construction. This picture was snapped of a house being built on the West end of the 600+ acre ranch, and you can see the use of bricks and stonework throughout. The bamboo is just for temporary support during construction.

Roots are framed with wooden beams, then covered with a layer of wood and tile shingles. There are no attics here, but some people are building wine cellars and basements.

Many people are building large, stone fireplaces and intricate patios. And these are not super-wealthy people, either: The very reasonable construction costs here allow even middle-class folks to build homes that would have cost them a fortune in the U.S.

And the views? They're spectacular. Plus, you've got *very* low costs for domestic help here: A full-time cook currently runs about $12 / day. A gardener is the same. Need a nanny? Also $12 / day. Imagine that...

Yes, flying here takes some time and money (you fly to Quito first, then Loja), but once you're here, it's like living in paradise.
