Vilcabamba Ecuador Living, Homes and Land

A NaturalNews PhotoTour by Mike Adams

The town of Vilcamba is a small, simple town of just a few thousand people. It's located just 5km or so from the Hacienda San Joaquin ranch. This is where you can go to buy basic necessities (eggs, veggies, tools, etc.), and they have a thriving Sunday market where you can buy a bag of 50 fresh oranges for about $2.

A larger town, Loja, is located 41km away (about a 45-minute drive), and you can get everything else you need there: Furniture, PVC pipe, cars, kitchen appliances, power tools, etc. Of course, there's nothing resembling a Home Depot or Wal-Mart here, but that's part of the beauty of living here. Nobody who lives here misses Wal-Mart, and if you really like Wal-Mart, Vilcabamba is probably not the place for you.

Remember: Ecuador is still a third-world country. This is not a resort dressed up to look like a third-world country; it IS a third-world country. And that means things move a lot slower here, but at times a little cash can grease the wheels and get things happening.

Next: Dr. Brian O'Leary's front lawn... you'll wish you had a view like this!
