Cosmetic Surgeons See Huge Increase in "Man Boobs" Breast Reduction Surgery

The economy may be in a funk, but there's one area of medicine that's booming: Breast reduction surgery for men!

In the UK, a total of 34,187 breast-related surgeries were carried out last year, according to BBC News. That's a 5% increase from 2007. But the biggest increase -- 44% -- came from "man boobs" reduction surgery, which has risen 1000% since 2003.

Rising rates of obesity among men appear to be contributing to this demand, but do men really need breast reduction surgery? Is this a medical problem that should require cutting into your flesh and tearing away fat tissue?

Here's something worth considering: If you're a man who needs breast reduction surgery, that might be a clue to change your diet and exercise program first. Your man boobs will go away by pursuing healthy diet and exercise habits.

Man boobs are, after all, just deposits of body fat. Picking up an exercise program and improving the health qualities of the foods you eat will greatly reduce your body fat, virtually eliminating man boobs.

The same healthy habits will also eliminate man butts and man bellies, too, although the belly is usually the last thing to go. For men, body fat is typically packed on in the following order: Belly, butt and boobs. Those are the three B's of 'besity for men.

By the way, as long as we're removing all the fat from these man boobs, I think we should do the manly thing and turn all that liquid fat energy into biodiesel for pickup trucks.

That way, when you're heading up to Brokeback Mountain in your manly pickup truck, with a shotgun in the window and your two hunting buddies in the front seat, you can explain to them you got your man boobs removed and turned into the fuel your truck is burning right now!
