Blagojevich Corruption Scandal Reveals True Face of Many PoliticiansBy Mike Adams, December 9, 2008 | Key concepts: Politicians, Corruption and Blagojevich On TV, they're dressed in sharp business suits, with clean haircuts and sweet faces, claiming to work for the People they represent. But behind closed doors, they're lying cheaters who use excessive profanity while selling their influence to the highest bidder.In fact, if you think about it, it's sort of odd that Blagojevich is being arrested at all, considering that selling influence is a way of life in high-powered politics. Don't U.S. Senators and members of the House routinely lean towards the interests of their large campaign finance donors? Is that any less of a crime? I don't condone any of this, of course. I'm just saying that if Blagojevich is a criminal for trying to earn some personal cash in return for political favors, then more than half the U.S. Congress is probably guilty of the same crime. Blagojevich's real crime, of course, was making it so blatant. There's an art to selling influence in Washington, and it involves never admitting you're trading dollars for votes. All the clever crooks in Washington understand this, and they resort to a kind of secret language to describe what they're willing to do (or not do). They might say they'll "Consider it favorably" or that they are "willing to look more closely into the issue," but they'll never come right out and admit they're selling votes for cash. In politics, of course, the egos get so big and out of control that people begin to think they're immune to the law. Blagojevich's own words paint him as an arrogant, holier-than-thou braggart who believed the laws of the land didn't apply to him. You'll find that attitude to be quite common in Washington D.C., as well as in the Governorships across the states. Not all politicians are like that, of course, but far too many are. Most of them, however, are smarter about what they say on the phone. Didn't Blagojevich realize he lives in a police state where ALL the phone lines are routinely tapped? How stupid (or arrogant) do you have to be to say the things he said right over a POTS telephone line? I bet his debit card PIN number is his birthday, too. Click to read: |
