New research shows the California economy loses $28 billion a year due to the health effects of air pollution. (I wonder what the figure is in Mexico City?) It's a huge, scary number, and yet it's only a fraction of the cost to the economy due to the mass consumption of pharmaceuticals, junk foods and sodas. Banning the advertising of dangerous drugs and junk foods would do far more to save money for California than cleaning up the air. Imagine the benefits of doing both!
