This is a book about global transformation through personal transformation. Gandhi said it best with, "Be the change you wish to see in the world," and The Flip shows us the practical ways we can set foot on that path and start making those changes a personal reality.
Why I personally endorse this book and became a Flipster
As the executive director of the Consumer Wellness Center, I wholeheartedly endorse The Flip, its authors and its mission of global transformation. The wisdom found in this book is boundless, and the personal benefits that can come from reading it are incalculable. |

REPPED: Researchers are now finding that the active ingredient in antimicrobial soaps and personal care products causes nerve damage. This really isn't surprising: I've been warning readers about this for years. The ingredient is called MIT (methylisothiazolinone), and it is found in antimicrobial soaps, hand soaps, dish soaps and a surprising number of personal care products. People buy these personal care products thinking they're protecting themselves from infectious microbes. |

The article "Pharmaceuticals and personal Care Products in the Environment: Agents of Subtle Change?" appeared in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives.
This landmark article discussed how "priority pollutants," such as agrochemicals, were "only one piece of the larger puzzle" of human-made environmental risk factors. |
| Daughton and Ternes wrote:
"One large class of chemicals receiving comparatively little attention comprises the pharmaceuticals and active ingredients in personal care products (PPCPs), which are used in large amounts throughout the world; quantities of many are on par with agrochemicals. Escalating introduction to the marketplace of new pharmaceuticals is adding exponentially to the already large array of chemical classes, each with distinct modes of biochemical action, many of which are poorly understood. |
| The term encompasses personal care products, prescription drugs, pesticides, and other substances, some of which are known to affect human hormone production. Experts predict the incidence of emerging contaminants will continue to rise. Daughton writes in the Renewable Resources Journal, "New drug entities, many with mechanisms of action never before encountered by biological systems, can be expected to enjoy continued introduction to commerce. All will have the potential to enter the environment merely as a result of their daily use (e.g. |
| I believe the answer is yes, and we -- as consumers and as stewards of the environment -- must evaluate the choices we make every day in consideration of the long-term effects of our prescription use, of our dependence on over-the-counter medications, and of our use of chemically charged personal care products.
Note: Be sure to take a look at our CounterThink cartoon, Pharmaceutical Terrorism, for a satirical look at this issue.

A few years ago, Christian Daughton posed the question, "Is the introduction of new chemicals to commerce outrunning our ability to fully assess their significance in the environment or to human health? |
| Consider parabens used in soaps, shampoos, moisturizers, and other personal care products. The EPA has reported that parabens -- methyl, propyl, butyl, and ethyl (alkyl-p-hydroxybenzoates) -- are endocrine disruptors. The EPA also stated "continual introduction of these benzoates (parabens) into sewage treatment systems and directly to recreational waters from the skin leads to the question of risk to aquatic organisms."
Don't count on the Food & Drug Administration to protect you from parabens. For cosmetic products, safety testing is not required. |

The way to tap into this wellspring of transformative knowledge is to simply pick up a copy of the book and start reading it! |
| Today I'd like to introduce you to a book created by a group of visionary individuals who have contributed to a breakthrough guide to personal and planetary transformation.
These are people like Ed Begley, Jr., (the star of Ed TV and Who Killed the Electric Car?), Daryl Hannah (natural health Hollywood star), Byron Katie, John Robbins, Gary Zukav and many others. |

If it's just for personal use, I see absolutely nothing wrong with ripping the same movie to multiple devices.
I also think the same should be true with books. If you bought a book at a bookstore and you want to read it on your laptop computer, I see nothing wrong with scanning the book, digitizing the pages and loading them on your computer so you can read it on the road. In fact, I've done this many times. Of course I've never shared these files with anyone, and I would never think of selling them, so I am actually protecting the intellectual property by keeping it to myself. |

With each page turn, you'll take another step forward on the path towards positive personal transformation. And as these positive changes begin to take hold in your own life, a universal ripple effect will begin to cause similar positive changes in the world around you -- in your friends, relationships, career, community and even seemingly random events.
There are a million ways to change the world for the better. The Flip simply brings many of them together in one place, where nearly two dozen visionary thinkers share many lifetimes of knowledge openly, freely and thoughtfully. |

Outlaw cancer-causing chemicals and fragrances in personal care products
Here's an obvious one: Let's make it illegal for personal care product manufacturers to poison their customers. This can be easily accomplished by outlawing the use of toxic liver-damaging or cancer-causing chemicals now used throughout the cosmetics and personal care industry.
Your average perfume product, for example, contains more than twenty cancer-causing chemicals, none of which are listed on the label. |

This mythology has been promoted by the manufacturers of these products who, through clever advertising, propagate the distortion that bacteria on the kitchen counter and in the bathroom are responsible for making people sick. |

People have antimicrobial soaps, dryer sheets with toxic chemicals, and then there are people using all sorts of personal perfumes and fragrance products that are also loaded with cancer-causing chemicals. You've got people putting deodorant in their armpits, and that deodorant contains aluminum which promotes dementia and Alzheimer's disease. And if that's not enough toxicity, you can buy air fresheners that will release a mist of toxic chemicals into the very air that you breathe so that you can inhale carcinogenic chemicals directly into your lungs. |

These days, instead of doctors simply being full of nonsense, they are suddenly a very real danger to your personal freedom. Before, they were just peddling health nonsense. Now they hold the keys to your freedom and the custody of your children. Refuse to go along with new mandatory vaccination programs in New Jersey, for example, and you can be arrested, imprisoned, charged with a crime and have your children kidnapped by Child Protective Services. How dare you disagree with the High Priests of medical dogma!
Personally, I don't necessarily mind doctors being full of crap. |

I put no personal care products on my skin whatsoever: No deodorants, no fragrance, no skin creams, no cosmetics and no sunscreen. This alone saves me from exposure to hundreds of cancer-causing toxic chemicals added to personal care products. I refuse to use chemical laundry detergent and, instead, use natural laundry soap that grows on trees: Natural soap berries that we sell as a replacement for chemical laundry detergents.

Rather than protecting the people, politicians are now in bed with the powerful corporations selling foods, drugs and personal care products that actually harm people. There is no real defender of the people who remains in power in Washington. The entire power base has shifted to those sellout bureaucrats who seem to be willing to sacrifice the future health of this nation in order to solidify their own personal reelection campaigns with the help of corporate donations (bribes).
The system is broken. |

Because announcing the discovery of toxic chemicals in products made by other countries (especially a Communist country) allows the FDA to appear as if it's protecting the public without having to tell the truth about the toxic chemicals found in American food and personal care products. Talking about the deadly chemicals and poisons used by American food and personal care product manufacturers is, of course, an activity to be avoided at all costs. It's much easier to point the finger of blame at someone else and imply that U.S. manufacturers of such products would never poison their customers. |
