We have found that many patients have been prevented from recovering by the fact that an error in the diagnosing of infected tonsils was made, thus allowing an infected tonsil to remain.18
When not every patient recovered, Cotton assumed infection must be present elsewhere in the body. "The infected cervix is frequently overlooked and if not attended to, in spite of the fact that infected teeth and tonsils have been removed, the patient's recovery will be hindered."19 After careful study the good doctor reported the cervix was infected in about 80% of his cases. |

The experiment was blinded so that the experimenters themselves did not know which animals were infected and which were controls until after the study was completed. A healer given photographs of the rats after they had been infected with the disease was asked to attempt to prevent the spread of the parasites. Measurements of the blood cells were taken at several intervals after the animals had been infected. The study was carried out three times, each time involving a large number of rats. Two trials achieved a medium (0.47) effect size. |

The same problems can result from cavitations (infected areas of the jawbone near an infected tooth, or sockets not properly cleaned out when a tooth is extracted).
After extraction and proper cleaning of the sockets of problem teeth, a large percentage of patients recovered from their illnesses. When sound, uninfected, natural teeth, or other sterile objects were implanted in animals, no adverse health effects were experienced.
When a tooth begins to decay and a cavity is formed, a hole is created in the outer hard layers of the tooth, and decay spreads into the dentin. |

If Japanese green teas could be shown to have an antibacterial effect on various bacteria detected in infected root canals, then they may be a possible medicament for use in the treatment of the infected canals." True to form, the polyphenols came through as antibacterial agents in this study. The green teas inhibited the growth of as many as half of the bacteria strains, suggesting that green tea may indeed be a promising adjunct in treatment for infected root canals.11

Is it possible to retroactively prevent a disease, after it has infected its host and spread? The Chiron Foundation in the Netherlands designed an intriguing study to test this seemingly impossible proposition. A large group of rats was randomly divided in two groups, and one group was given a parasitic infection of the blood. The experiment was blinded so that the experimenters themselves did not know which animals were infected and which were controls until after the study was completed. |

Other viruses associated with cancer are: hepatitis B and C virus with liver cancer, human T cell leukemia virus associated with T cell leukemia, and Kaposi's sarcoma - associated herpes virus with sarcomas and more recently with a form of bone marrow cancer (myeloma). |

Bird flu is right now spreading more rapidly than anyone could have guessed six months ago. The virus has now infected poultry farms in France, and chicken consumption is already down 30 percent in that country. The virus is soon expected to reach the U.K.

Similarly, H5N1 virus, or avian flu, is often the result of farmers and infected fowl crowding together in prime living space. Andrew Cunningham, a zoologist with the Zoological Society of London, recently raised a red flag about new viruses emerging from global encroachment into wildlife in an essay in the British medical journal BMJ, arguing that while this has probably happened many times in the past, such viruses failed to spread because those infected lived in remote enough areas that they either died or got well before they interacted with larger human populations. |

Expression of other early genes of the flavonoid biosynthetic pathway is also seen after wounding, but differential expression of CHS genes and flavonoid accumulation between infected and uninfected plants suggest that different signaling pathways are involved (Ryder et al, 1987; Wingender et al, 1989; Lawson et al, 1996). Jasmonic acid (JA)/methyl jasmonate signaling appear to mediate some flavonoid responses to wounding, as both compounds can induce CHS expression (Richard et al, 2000). |

Lice Medications
Scabes is a small skin infection from a mite that usually comes from infected bedding. It can cause excoriated vesicles and pustules in the skin. Pediculosis is the medical term for lice, which can affect the head hair or the genital hair. It is transmitted through bedclothes, touch, and genital contact. Over-the-counter topical treatments (Nix, Rid), which use pyrethrin-based ingredients, are generally safe.
LINDANE
The most commonly used prescribed medication for these problems is lindane (Kwell). |
| It is not clear if the risk is from the OCP or the increased risk of being infected with HPV for women on OCPs who may not use barrier protection. However, since the risk of getting cervical cancer is 0.008%, in any given year a doubling of risk means increasing your risk by another 0.008% per year. OCPs increase the risk of liver cancer, but this risk is rare. OCPs increase the risk of breast cancer by 10% to 20%.
In women of childbearing age, breast cancer is rare, and any increased risk is eliminated after OCPs are stopped. |
| Hikers or travelers who drink infected water can contract giardiasis, which causes diarrhea and malabsorption. Trichomoniasis is a vaginal infection that may cause a discharge but is usually asymptomatic. Toxoplasmosis, which comes from contact with the feces of cats and birds as well as other sources, may cause fever, headache, and sore throat. It works by inhibiting DNA synthesis of fungal organisms. Side effects include tingling, confusion, mood changes, nausea, vomiting, and problems with urination. Other possible side effects include liver dysfunction. |

Already between 20 and 30 percent of patients are now infected with viruses resistant to protease inhibitors, and the situation is worsening day by day. Although the drugs have given many AIDS patients a "new lease of life" (not necessarily because the drugs suppress HIV, but because they also subdue most other disease-causing agents, at least for a while), the initial euphoria about the new AIDS treatment has died down and so has the hope of finding a cure, at least within the medical field. |

When we become infected, our bodies produce a chemical called leukocyte endogenous mediator (LEM), which decreases the amount of iron in our bloodstream. So, ironically, while the blood test tells us we're anemic, this intentionally low iron level is helping keep the bacteria in check.
That's especially important in the body's response to infection. For example, the bubonic plague was very deadly in the Middle Ages because the bacteria would enter our macrophages (white blood cell scavenger system) and thrive due to their high iron content. |

When the researchers infected rats with S. mutans and fed them a diet known to contribute to dental cavities, they found that the rats were much less likely to develop cavities when they were also given polyphenol supplements.6
Enzymes produced by S. mutans for the purpose of utilizing dietary sugars are highly related to the cavity-causing ability of this bacterium. These enzymes allow the bacteria to form larger areas of plaque on the tooth surface, which in turn lead to the formation of cavities. |

Briefly, though the female mosquito must suck blood to live (and infected human blood to act as a malaria carrier), she can live quite happily on cattle blood, and cattle are not infected by malaria protozoa. The removal of cattle and the use of land for arable has increased the spread of malaria throughout history, in Italy, France, even England, and probably in Texas. Though the female mosquito has to suck human blood to allow the protozoa to develop in her body, she reinfects the next human through her saliva, not through her "bite."
