What foods existed over all that time? foods provided by nature -- raw, uncooked and unprocessed berries, nuts, seeds, vegetables, roots, fruits and so on. This is what was available to the body, so it only makes sense that raw foods offer perfect compatibility with the human body. That's one reason people might choose to eat raw foods, but it's not the only reason.
You might also decide to pursue a raw foods diet because of the taste experience. Even if you don't care about health benefits, the taste experience is incredible. |
| These ingredients are specifically used to give some kind of taste to foods that otherwise taste dead and boring because the life has been cooked out of them or because the depth of taste has been milled out of them during the grain processing. Processed foods taste nothing like real food from nature. When foods are processed, cooked or put on a shelf in a grocery store, they're little more than a shadow of the original food.
If you think you've tried all kinds of foods before and you've never tried raw foods, you have no idea what you're missing. |

I'd like you to speak to this some more, but let me pose a question to you here that is about, I tend to call it, the homeopathy of foods. Now, these foods have water; there is energy. What energy are people getting from warehouse foods, processed foods or slaughtered animals, and is that a legitimate concern that there is an energy, not just the chemistry?
Cousens: Yes, it's a good question and the answer is yes. Now, what do we mean? First of all, food has water. Water has been proven to be a transmitter of vibration. |

| I'm living on the most exciting foods in the world. I'm living on foods that make all the processed, junk foods taste like dirt.
I'm not giving up anything by living a super-healthy lifestyle. In fact, I'm gaining in every area. The taste experience is more interesting and more expansive. The health benefits are phenomenal. The expanded awareness happens automatically. I'm not giving up anything at all! You might say, "Well, you're giving up a Big Mac, French fries, ice cream and pizza." So what? Once you've tried raw foods cuisine, everything else seems irrelevant. |
| If you think you've tried all kinds of foods before and you've never tried raw foods, you have no idea what you're missing. You're missing out on a whole universe of taste experience that goes beyond anything you've ever dreamed of. The first time you put raw foods cuisine in your mouth, you begin a whole new adventure. You take a journey into a new realm of food experience that will expand your reality because it's like nothing you've ever tasted before.
You might try a raw foods diet because you want to experience tastes you've never experienced before. |

We want to make sure we have superfoods in our diet like bee products and spirullina and blue-green algae, and things like the cacao bean, which is the raw chocolate nut, and the goji berry and maca and these kinds of foods. We can have other foods, too, but we just want to make sure that we're not missing anything. When we really get down to what knocks out the bird flu, we have to focus on traditionally what has worked. That would be herbs, and that is where I want to take us now. |

Sure, in twenty years, most people will understand there's a huge difference between living foods and dead foods, but right now, most health authorities and consumers are stuck in the world of immutable macronutrients that have no "living" properties whatsoever. |

It's one of nature's most nutritious foods. It's got tons of vitamins and minerals; it's an especially excellent source of potassium, fiber, calcium and iron. It's got protein in it as well.
Mike: Does this fall under the category of raw foods?
Levine: Yes, definitely, a raw food. We have a website, www.lotusfoods.com, which shares wonderful recipes on how to use and prepare the kaipen, as well as the cassava sesame crisp. All of these products can be bought on the website as well.
Mike: Are there other places where customers can buy them?
Levine: Not really. |

Because we have the technology of refrigeration and the ability to transport great fruits and vegetables and all kinds of different superfoods and exotic foods, we don't really need to be consuming all this cooked food anymore. It's become more of an excess than something that's necessary, and it actually degrades flavor. People are really into food. But they think, Raw food? It's just going to be carrots and celery.
Actually, it exposes you to a massive amount of flavor sensations. It's caused a literal epidemic of raw food restaurants to open across America. |

Raw foods artists, musicians and more...
Getting back to the vendors at the Raw Spirit Festival, one of the featured artists of the day was Manaca from Hawaii (www.ManakaMusic.com), a raw foods vegan vocalist and musician with inspiring lyrics who lives an authentically high-vibration lifestyle.
A world-renowned sound healer, Mark Patterson, also known as The Human Singing Bowl, offered some chanting and overtone singing for the audience. |

The bigger picture: Dead foods lead to dead people
I have heard a theory that says the governments of the world, concerned with the population carrying capacity of planet Earth, have unleashed a plan to greatly reduce the population by destroying the nutritional value of foods and supplements. Once malnutrition becomes rampant, the theory goes, the population will collapse through disease and infertility, and the remaining few will find themselves in a happy, low-population world where they can actually afford to buy a condo. |

If you want to boost the mineral content of the foods you buy, buy organic. Organic foods almost always have higher mineral concentrations than conventionally grown foods.
If you really want to do it right, grow your own food and apply diluted seawater (or trace minerals water) to your soil. That will give you the healthiest, highest mineral density plants available anywhere in the world. You can only grow them yourself because I'm not aware of any commercially grower using seawater, which is a great oversight. The source I recommend for seawater is called OceanGrown.com. |

In response to this story and considerable reader response, Amy's Kitchen has committed to attempting to reformulate their foods to remove yeast extract entirely. You can read the complete details of this new update at http://www.newstarget.com/021674.html
What follows is the original story on Amy's Kitchen and my experience with accidental ingestion of yeast extract found in an Amy's Kitchen product.
I have been eating and recommending Amy's Kitchen frozen foods for quite some time, and in all the labels I've read, I've never seen yeast extract on a single product from this company. |

In four years of medical school, they often do not receive any schooling whatsoever about the healing power of foods, phytonutrients, vitamins and minerals. Across the United States, Canada, most of Europe and even Australia, there is virtually no requirement that doctors learn nutrition before they receive medical licenses and begin to practice medicine -- a fact I find absolutely astounding. There are exceptions in certain schools and regions, of course, but most medical schools teach no nutrition.
How much can healing foods and a healing lifestyle change you in terms of blood chemistry? |

| We've got to have everything present and that's going to include all those foods that we mentioned: Fruits and vegetables, organic nuts, seeds and seaweed. I also recommend sprouts if you're into grasses.
We're really into distributing superfoods, which are things like spirulina and blue-green algae, and chlorella and bee products, like pollen and honey, maca from the highlands of the Andes Mountains and goji berries, the cacao bean -- which is the chocolate -- which is what all chocolate is made out of. These foods are extraordinarily nutritious and very fun to eat. |

So why are so many doctors so skeptical about the healing power of foods?
My theory is that a lot of patients actually lie to their doctors about what kind of dietary changes they are making, just like they might lie about alcohol or tobacco consumption. When doctors ask, "How is your diet?" the patient may say, "I've stopped eating meat, cheese, fried foods and drinking soft drinks." But most patients actually have not made those changes, and the doctors are left with a misimpression that dramatic dietary changes have very little effect on blood chemistry. |

In my book, they are "free" foods.
It takes just as many calories for your body to digest them as you get out of the foods themselves. And yet at the same time, they fill your stomach and make you feel full, turning off the hunger signals in your brain. You may have also heard these called "negative calorie foods."
You can consume these green leafy vegetables in a couple of ways. Most people don't like to eat them plain. |

It's an insult to the consumer, too, but it's also par for the course when it comes to food safety: The FDA, after all, insists that both irradiated foods and GMO foods should not be labeled as such because the labels might "confuse consumers." That's right: Too much information is dangerous to consumers! Knowledge might cause them to make the wrong purchasing decision!
As a consumer, I've never felt so insulted in my entire life. Except, perhaps, for the one time a radio show host accidentally called me a doctor. |

But they sure love to "manage" disease with expensive drugs or surgical procedures, all while pretending that foods, herbs and nutritional supplements have absolutely no medicinal value whatsoever. In time, even medicine will be forced to acknowledge the healing properties of foods and plants, but until that happens, it's up to you to stay ahead of the curve and inform yourself about the miraculous medicines provided by nature. |

Cacao beans, goji berries, Incan berries -- which are one of the sacred foods of the Andes mountains -- Maca, which is a root from the Andes mountains -- another sacred food -- yacon root syrup, agave, a sweetener from cactus that grows out in the desert. We also do a lot of different olive varieties. I'm really into exotic olives and Mediterranean background, so I really love olives and olive oil. We do hemp seeds and hemp seed oil. |

There's no requirement for food companies to list chemical contaminants found in their foods.) A food labeled "all natural" can contain pesticides, herbicides, toxic heavy metals, trace amounts of PCBs, toxic fluoride, hidden MSG, high-temperature cooking byproducts, synthetic chemical vitamins and dozens of other non-natural substances. This is all perfectly allowed and tolerated by the FDA as well as all virtually every media outlet in the world. |
| The salt used in such foods isn't natural either. It's almost entirely processed salt, and even the products that claim to be made from "sea salt" are actually using a white, processed sea salt (not a full-spectrum brown or pink salt like you might find with Celtic Sea Salt, which is truly natural).
Grocery product makers are also adding various chemical additives to their "all natural" products, hiding them under innocent-sounding ingredients that don't raise red flags with consumers. Monosodium glutamate (MSG), for example, is a neurotoxic substance classified as an excitotoxin. |

This is the second study we've seen revealing that certain foods are as effective, or even more effective, than prescription drugs in regulating biochemical markers such as cholesterol levels or in treating conditions such as chronic depression. In this particular study, researchers found that foods such as soy protein, tofu, various other soy products, plus almonds and cereal fiber, as well as plant sterols, can lower total cholesterol and especially LDL cholesterol, better than statin drugs.
Once again, this is no surprise at all to nutritionists. |
