REPPED: Separate studies on two continents have concluded smoking is associated with decreased productivity on the job, both in the civilian and military sectors. The studies were published in the April 2007 issue of the journal Tobacco Control.
"In both the civilian and military sectors, smoking has been linked to disability and job-related outcomes, including decreased productivity, increased absenteeism, and long and more frequent work breaks," reported Terry L. Conway, Ph.D. and colleagues at San Diego State University Graduate School of Public Health. |

This is because the amount of leptin in your system has decreased. The combination of elevated ghrelin (making you feel constantly hungry) and decreased leptin (telling you that you still aren't full) will wreak havoc on your waistline. hormone-healthy habit: snooze and lose
Substantial medical evidence suggests that there is a strong link between sleep and weight. Researchers say that how much you sleep, and quite possibly the quality of your sleep, can silently orchestrate a symphony of hormonal activity that is tied to your appetite. |

Additional releases at their Evansville facility decreased by approximately 50 percent from 2002 to 2003. |

Additionally, imaging studies of patients diagnosed with posttraumatic stress disorder found that psychotherapy increased prefrontal metabolism and decreased limbic system activation in the brain. |

Pretty much all of these relate direcdy to detoxification. Because exercise takes energy from cells, helping them to increase the number and size of the mitochondria (which are your cells' main power generators), you essentially force your cells to work more efficiendy and assist with driving toxins out. Moreover, moderate exercise is linked to an improved immune system and an increase in white blood cell activity—both of which positively influence cellular detoxification. |

In one study, people who had a higher protein intake experienced a decreased appetite and what the researchers termed "significant weight loss."50 Those researchers speculated that the decreased caloric intake might have been caused by increased leptin sensitivity, which would have lessened appetite. Another study on mice gives some intriguing, if preliminary, indication that protein can exert an effect on metabolism. |

Evidence that Carotenoids are Protective
Fruit and vegetable consumption has been linked to decreased risk of stroke -- both hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke. Each increment of three daily servings of fruits and vegetables equated to a 22% decrease in risk of stroke, including transient ischemic attack (Gillman et al. Journal of the American Medical Association. 1995;273;1113). |

Protein production can be increased, decreased, or shut off. According to the FDA, transgene location might cause "the food derived from the plant to have higher levels of toxins than normal, or lower levels of a significant nutrient."13 New or increased levels of allergens and antinutrients are also possible. According to a 2005 study sponsored by the UK's Food Standards Agency, "Information on the genomic location of transgenes would seem to be essential to any safety assessment."14

| After the insertion took place, the gene chip revealed that up to 5% of the levels of messenger RNA that were monitored either increased or decreased. Extrapolated to the number of active genes in plants, a single insertion might change the expression of hundreds, possibly thousands of genes. The authors wrote, "This is a remarkable and somewhat unexpected finding in view of the implicit assumption that gene transfer ... ought only to have the consequence of increasing the level of functional... protein in the target cell. Instead, we find here that many changes occur. |
| Finally, components involved in either gene expression (RNA Polymerase II) or RNA processing (Sm antigen, hnRNPs, and SC35) were "decreased in two- and five-month-old GM-fed mice, and ... restored to normal at eight months."83 This implies that components in the GM soy diet resulted in lower metabolic activity in Sertoli cells and spermatocytes during the early stages of adulthood of the mice.
Although there is no clear explanation for these changes, the authors speculate that there is a reduction of transcription (from DNA to RNA) that "takes place in parallel with a decrease in NP density. |
| Milk production also decreased in some cows and others were slaughtered due to an unidentified illness.
The corn plots were part of GM field trials, which were being managed by the Robert Koch Institute on behalf of the corn's producer Syngenta. After reporting the deaths of five cows to the institute, Syngenta gave the farmer 40,000 euros. Although this was to compensate him for the deceased cows, reduced milk, and vet bills, the company did not admit responsibility for the problems. |
| The nuclei from GM-fed mice had a more roundish shape, decreased pore density and reduced amount of splicing factors.) The changes suggest that consumption of GM soy reduced the processing of RNA and/ or reduced the number of molecules that passed from inside the nucleus into the rest of the cell.75
The reason for all these changes is unclear, but their size, consistency, and highly significant correlations demonstrate that consumption of GM soy is the cause. Further analysis demonstrated that, as with the liver, pancreatic modifications disappear after removing the GM soy from the diet. |

Though beta-carotene found in creamed carrots is healthy for us to eat, it will not provide a decreased risk of ARMD. Perhaps what Mom really meant was, "Eat your carots"-as in carotenoids.
Vitamin C
People with low levels of vitamin C have an increased risk of developing ARMD. Vitamin C is highly concentrated in the fluid within the eye (aqueous humor) and is a very important antioxidant for the retina. Studies indicate that supplementation with vitamin C can slow down the progression of ARMD. |

In contrast to the amount of arable land, which has varied widely through time and across civilizations, the amount of land needed to feed a person has gradually decreased over recorded history Hunting and gathering societies needed 20 to 100 hectares of land to support a person. The shifting pattern of cultivation that characterized slash-and-burn agriculture took 2 to 10 hectares of land to support a person. Later sedentary agricultural societies used about a tenth as much land to support a person. An estimated 0.5 to 1.5 hectares of floodplain fed a Mesopotamian. |

Consumption of tomato products has been linked to decreased risk of prostate cancer. Men in the highest quintile for consumption of tomato products (10 or more servings a week) had about a 35% decrease in risk of prostate cancer compared to counterparts whose consumption put them in the lowest quintile (1.5 or fewer servings of tomato products a week) (Giovannucci et al. Journal of the National Cancer Institute 1995;87:1767). |

Conventional medicine diagnoses glue ear by looking into the ear at the tympanic membrane and noting redness, bulging, decreased movement, and an often dull appearance with fluid behind.
General recommendations: Make sure you drink plenty of fluids to remain hydrated. Decongestants may be used to encourage the mucus to drain. Allergens may contribute to inflammation, so any known irritants should be avoided.
Antibiotics: If the condition does not improve of its own accord within two to three days, see your doctor, who may prescribe amoxicillin. |

The herbs listed below focus on treating tinnitus relating to allergies and decreased circulation.
Ginkgo biloba: Research has shown that ginkgo is an effective treatment for tinnitus, especially when the condition is related to poor circulation. It is thought that the active constituents in ginkgo, the ginkgolides, prevent metabolic damage from poor blood flow by increasing small arterial circulation. The ginkgolides also decrease the blood's ability to clot, thereby assisting circulation. Because of this ability, ginkgo should not be used by individuals on blood-thinning medication. |
| Because of this, it has side effects such as breast tenderness, decreased libido, and testicular pain. Nevertheless, it has an 80% hair regrowth rate after three months. It should be taken indefinitely. Pregnant women should not handle finasteride as it is a hormone modifier and can affect the hormones of the developing fetus.
Minoxidil: This drug is not available over the counter. While less effective than finasteride, it is safer and has fewer side effects.
Surgical techniques: Hair transplants can permanently restore hair, but it is an expensive procedure and requires many sessions. |
