The promoter was found
• In stomach cells and in intestinal (mesenteric) lymph nodes two hours after eating;
• In intestinal lymph nodes, kidney, and liver cells six hours after eating, and
• In intestinal lymph nodes, spleen, and liver cells three full days after eating.
It was not clear if the promoter had integrated into the DNA or not.
[Study specifics: Groups of six rats were fed a balanced diet (through a tube), to which was added artificial DNA sequences similar to those used in GM crops. |

These vessels contain lymph, which is a pale, thick fluid consisting of fat-laden liquid and white blood cells. lymph nodes, tonsils, bone marrow, spleen, liver, pancreas, lungs, and the intestines are also part of the immune system. As part of an immune response, white blood cells are mobilized and deployed to areas of the body requiring their assistance. lymph nodes, which contain filters, swell because the lymphatic vessels drain infection by carrying it to the nearest area where an immune response can be organized. The lymph nodes most commonly recognized are in the neck and groin areas. |

In its most common form the bacterium that's thought to have caused the plague (Yersinia pestis, named after Alexander Yersin, one of the bacteriologists who first isolated it in 1894) finds a home in the body's lymphatic system, painfully swelling the lymph nodes in the armpits and groin until those swollen lymph nodes literally burst through the skin. Untreated, the survival rate is about one in three. (And that's just the bubonic form, which infects the lymphatic system; when Y. |

Our bodies possess two kinds of immunity. Everyone is born with innate immunity, or the ability to react to foreign substances. Our bodies also have learned immunity, which is the ability to learn, adapt, and remember. |

But a small percentage of patients that I care for do continue to have some evidence of infection: temperatures of over 100 degrees, abnormal white blood cell counts, or enlarged lymph nodes. You're probably familiar with these nodes even if you didn't know what they are. Usually, at the same time you experience a very bad sore throat, you'll also feel tender lumps in your neck. These are lymph nodes, and they're enlarged because, as part of your immune system, they're actively trying to respond to the throat infection. |

The potentially harmful material is filtered and neutralized by lymph nodes that are strategically located throughout the body. One of the key functions of the lymphatic system is to keep the extracellular fluid clear of toxic substances, which makes this a system of utmost importance.
Poor circulation of blood in the body causes an overload of foreign, harmful waste matter in the extracellular tissues and, consequently, in the lymph vessels and lymph nodes as well. When lymph drainage slows down or becomes obstructed, the thymus gland, tonsils, and spleen start to deteriorate quite rapidly. |

Enlarged lymph nodes in the roid, throat, or even gastrointestinal i the side of your neck behind your i of lymphoma, including Hodgkin's disease and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Both are rare forms of cancer of the lymph nodes. Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma accounts for about 5% of cancers in the United States and is mostly found in adults around age 60. Hodgkin's is much rarer and primarily affects younger people between the ages of 15 and 35. Although both conditions can be fatal, they can be treated successfully if caught early. ck can also signal cancer of the thytract. |

Masood reviewed her medical records and found her breast tumor was less than 1 centimeter (half an inch) in size with no spread to lymph nodes. He questioned whether total mastectomy was the right decision for her. The patient responded by saying "No one ever discussed any other treatment option with me following my cancer diagnosis." [The Breast Journal 9: 69: 2003]
Even though 75-80% of newly diagnosed breast cancer patients have early-stage breast cancer and are eligible for lumpectomy, most women still undergo mastectomy. |
| It is the tumor cells that have escaped beyond capture in the lymph nodes that result in metastasis and mortality.
Tamoxifen
Tamoxifen is the "gold standard' of breast cancer treatment, heralded as the "most important drug in the history of the management of breast cancer."
In 1896, Dr. George Beatson discovered that surgical removal of a woman's ovaries shrinks breast tumors. [Lancet 2: 104-07, 1896] Thereafter efforts have focused on controlling estrogen to limit the growth of breast cancer. Tamoxifen doesn't inhibit the production of estrogen, but it blocks its entry into cells. |

| The presentation introduced early data suggesting that Taxol improved survival in women who had breast cancers that had spread to the nearby lymph nodes, if the drug was given after a lumpectomy or mastectomy.
"We found that very, very quickly after the meeting, physicians began prescribing [Taxol],'' Giordano says.
In fact, before the ASCO presentation, only 5% of patients were using Taxol and other tax-anes as adjuvant breast cancer therapy. That rate rose to nearly 24% soon after the conference. |

The most commonly known lymph nodes are found in the neck and groin areas.
Spleen
The spleen is the largest mass of lymphatic tissue in the body and acts as a powerful blood waste filter. It is an organ about the size of a person's fist, and is located in the upper part of the abdominal cavity, just under the rib cage on the left side. It produces lymphocytes (white blood cells), destroys defective red blood cells, and serves as a blood reservoir. It recycles whatever molecules our bodies need to retain and reuse. |

| It might be worth considering, however, in women who had lumpectomy for breast cancer or mastectomy for cancer that had spread to the lymph nodes within the past year or so.
TREATMENT
"It's important to treat breast cancer thoroughly from the beginning," notes Dr. B. Jay Brooks, Jr., who is chairman of hematology/oncology at the Ochsner Clinic Foundation in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. "If not, it increases the risk of local failure and, if that happens, it puts a woman at high risk of that cancer becoming metastatic. |
| Radiation also reduced the risk of a local recurrence and improved the long-term survival for women whose cancer had spread to the lymph nodes in the armpit. The five-year risk of a local recurrence after mastectomy and surgery to the armpit was 6% for the women who had radiation versus 23% for those who did not. The 15-year death rate was 54.7% for those who had radiation and 60.1% for those who did not.
DEFINITIVE ANSWERS
Lumpectomy, or breast-conserving surgery, removes the tumor plus a margin of normal tissue around it, and can be performed if the cancer has not spread widely. |
| Previous studies have shown that herceptin improves survival rates in HER2-positive women who have early-stage breast cancer (confined to the breast and adjacent lymph nodes) and metastatic breast cancer.
A study reported at a recent American Society of Clinical Oncology meeting confirms the benefits of herceptin. HER2-positive women who were given herceptin after surgery, along with standard chemotherapy, had a 52% lower rate of tumor recurrence than women who weren't given the drug. Women who have invasive breast cancer routinely have tumor cells tested for HER2. |
| Most people who have sinusitis have symptoms that include a greenish nasal discharge, a fever of more than 100°F, swollen lymph nodes and tenderness over the sinuses.
The only sure way to diagnose sinusitis is with a sinus puncture. The patient is given a local anesthetic. A needle is guided through a nostril into a sinus cavity to extract mucus. The mucus is then examined in a laboratory for signs of bacterial infection. Other sinusitis tests include computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans, though these aren't as accurate as the sinus puncture. |

Another report shows that women with tumors up to 2 inches (~4 centimeters) in size that had spread to the lymph nodes, experienced the same 20-year survival rate regardless of whether they had undergone mastectomy or lumpectomy. Additional radiation treatment reduced the occurrence of cancer occurring in the same breast from 40% to 14%. [New England Journal Medicine 347: 1233-41, 2002] But then again, recall the long-term side effects of radiation treatment cited above. Less cancer in the breast is traded for mortal side effects elsewhere.

Vitamins B6 and B5 stimulate the immune system,- a vitamin B6 deficiency is associated with depletion of white blood cells in the thymus, spleen and lymph nodes and lowered antibody production. Combinations of various vitamins with omega 3 and omega 6 oils regulate inflammatory reactions in the body.
Vitamins A and D also improve the digestive system, stimulate bowel function and help rid the body of any build-up of toxic matter. These vitamins are easily absorbed in the form of cod liver oil. |

For example, Source Driver matches to the reticuloendothelial system, a part of your immune system that produces cells that tend to aggregate in your lymph nodes, spleen, and reticular connective tissue. Generally, these are cells, such as monocytes and macrophages, that defend against invader organisms and microbes. In particular, Source Driver links particularly strongly to megakaryoctyes, a type of large cell made in the red bone marrow that produces blood platelets. |
| It influences the broad scope of your immunity responses through bioenergetic connections to your lymph nodes, T-cells and B-cells, and Cortisol. Lymphatic connections yoke it to the small organs of your body, such as your tonsils, bladder, kidneys, appendix, prostate or cervix, and gallbladder. It even connects to your teeth, which may explain why the condition of your gums correlates to aspects of your health, such as heart health, as many dentists have noted. |
| Although the actual symptoms vary from patient to patient, a CFS diagnosis usually results when a patient has suffered with several of the following symptoms and there is no other cause to account for them: unrelenting fatigue for at least six consecutive months, short-term memory problems, aching joints and muscles, tender lymph nodes, chronic sleeplessness, headaches, generally impaired thinking, and more. There are several hypotheses about what causes CFS. |

Sleight of hand: Gleason scores
There are a number of doctors who want patients to get accurate information. They began to question just how prostate cancer mortality rates could have improved so abruptly.
It all has to do with the grading score that pathologists give when they examine a biopsy slide of a patient's prostate tissue. |
| Lung cancer often spreads quickly and forms large tumors, which can spread to lymph nodes and other organs.
If you have time to investigate, you may not be able to easily find out the true survival rates for lung cancer in the U.S. compared to other countries. Health authorities continue to publish misleading statistics regarding survival rates for lung cancer which makes it appear that treatment is better in the U.S. than in other countries. |

In stage I and II breast cancer, increased consumption of Green Tea was closely associated with decreased numbers of metastasized axillary lymph nodes among premenopausal patients and increased expression of PgR and ER among postmenopausal women. Long-term consumption of Green Tea (>5 cups daily) prior to clinical cancer onset was associated with significantly lower recurrence in stage I and II breast cancer. |

Unproven Uses: In folk medicine, Native Americans use the drug externally for burns, swelling of the lymph nodes, and insect bites. The drug is used internally for pain associated with headaches and stomach aches, measles, coughs and gonorrhea. The drug has also been used for rattlesnake bites. Today the drug is used for prophylaxis and treatment of "flu," sepsis, and mild to moderate cold infections. Externally, the drug is used for treatment of poorly healing wounds and inflammatory conditions such as abscesses and leg ulcers. |

Although it is rarely mentioned in the medical literature, HIV has never been found in the lymph nodes, macrophage cells, dendritic cells, and elsewhere in the body of an AIDS victim; there has never been even a sign of a hidden virus infection. If the HIV were responsible for destroying the human immune system, it would have to be present where the destruction takes place. But this is not the case. |
