One thing I believe we offer that conventional oncology does not offer is at least a ray of hope in otherwise hopeless cases.
When I use the word "hope," I'm not talking about a false hope that we're accused of giving. Something else is that I've never used the word "cure" for cancer or other diseases, because I think that's a legal term, not a scientific term. It's a legal term the medical establishment uses against people like us, hoping they can use it and say we're outside the law. So, we don't use it. |

ENTRY POINTS
Every choice we make can be a celebration of the world we want. s we absorb the lesson of solving for pattern, we begin to see the world in ways that help us grasp the roots of problems and how they interconnect. Suddenly, the entry points are endless. Here are only a few possibilities, among many, to help you on your path. |

Whitcomb: I certainly hope that this message can get out there to people who are suffering from fibromyalgia right now, and give them a new option -- something else that they can pursue to finally reverse this condition. I know what you said about false hope as well. I don't want to say to every person listening to this that this is the magic solution, but it's one more option to explore.
Ben: It's hope.
Dr. Whitcomb: I definitely don't want to overstate anything, but I can tell you, there's a lot of excitement here in the office, an awful lot of excitement. |

I always hold out the hope that in writing these books and in sharing the information I have acquired over many years, pet owners will give their animal companions better nutrition. I also hope that when cats and dogs die, their bodies will not end up in a rendering vat, but rather be cremated or buried in a dignified and respectful manner. This is the least we can do for our animal companions.

I wrote this book to give hope to people who otherwise might get the idea there isn't any hope that has their name on it. Throughout these pages, you've read about the ways and means to make yourself a happier and healthier person through nutritional approaches to a wide range of illnesses and pathologies. But the story isn't all told if you're getting the idea that it's just between you and what ails you and the ways you can be doing better. That is all important. But it isn't the whole story. |

Alex's vision is to take this company (and its products) global, so watch for announcements along those lines. I hope to be reporting on ways that our readers around the world can enjoy these products. In addition to our North American readers (U.S. and Canada), we've got lots of readers in Australia, New Zealand and across Western Europe. I'm always keeping you in mind when reviewing these products, in the hopes that I can recommend regional sources wherever possible. |

Honest hope is movement.
So you see, this one book is actually two. Yes, it is a literal journey of mother and daughter, exploring evidence of change afoot that's invisible to most of us. But it's another kind of journey, too. For to heal our planet and to find joy in this challenging time, each of us must also take an interior journey, one probing not only our unspoken fears but also our deepest beliefs about our nature as human beings.
Personal and social transformation can't be disaggregated. As we gain inner strength, we can perceive wider changes that before might have eluded us. |
| With his words, Anna and I sense a shifting norm: Santahar is practicing an ethic of inclusion—and we hope Dahlia will, too. Santahar is saying, in effect, "I will not pay my workers so little that they remain invisible, exiled." But will Santahar's ethic infect his whole community? I wonder.
I think back to Brazil and the MST's new emphasis of using dialogue to develop social values, both in its settlements and in venues like the seminar Anna and I attended. But here in Bangladesh, face-to-face dialogue is still inhibited. |

Science is on the verge of a huge breakthrough, and I hope it will soon be commonplace to see, for example, studies concerning the healing, vibratory resonance of plants.
The first part of this book is the theoretical basis for Plant Spirit Healing, the second part is the practical application, and the third part, my favorite, is the stories of the plants. There are so many plants that could have been written about, but the ones I have chosen offer you a unique holistic view in hopes of revealing their true nature. |

A very large study, called the hope trial, had a significant influence in diminishing the role of vitamin E for cardioprotection in the minds of many consumers and practitioners. In women and men, 55 years of age or older, who were at high risk for cardiovascular disease, treatment with 400 IU vitamin E per day for an average of 4.5 years had no apparent effect on cardiovascular outcomes.178 The HOPE-TOO trial was extended for another four years and studied men and women at least 55 years old who had vascular disease or diabetes. |

The initial hope study was a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial involving patients aged 55 and older with vascular disease or diabetes mellitus (n=9,541); it found no significant effect of vitamin E on CV events. In HOPE-TOO, of the 7,030 patients enrolled at participating centers, 3,994 continued taking the study intervention and 738 agreed to follow-up (median duration 7 years). At study conclusion, no differences in major CV events were observed in those who had received supplementation with vitamin E. |

In the face of the unprecedented ecological and social crisis, our organs of mass media rarely do more than reinforce the notion that global corporate capitalism is our only hope. They feed us messages that the only way to feed the world is with huge agribusinesses relying on massive infusions of pesticides and chemical fertilizers, and on giant feedlots pumping cattle with tons of grain, hormones, and antibiotics. We seldom hear about the ways in which this highly concentrated factory-farming system is rapidly destroying the resources we need to ensure our long-term well-being. |

The Phoenix Motorcars vision
Phoenix Motorcars started out as an alternative fuel research company that planned to design commercial products. They hope to eventually produce 20,000 electric vehicles a year, but for now will have to settle with the 500 currently slated for the first production run. The Ontario, California vehicle manufacturer hopes to expand production to more than 6,000 in 2008. |

At that point, I decided to look for a cardiologist who would be open to alternative methods of healing, allow me to be involved, and would most importantly allow me to have hope. After months of unsuccessful appointments with closed-minded doctors, I decided to take my healing into my own hands, and began my quest for a form of natural healing on my own.
I stopped taking all prescription drugs and began experimenting with various alternative methods, techniques, and products, in hope of finding a "Miracle Cure". |

Walking Hope's Edge
To free ourselves from the thought traps—to bridge the painful disconnect between our inner and outer worlds—my hunch at age 26 was that food is a perfect starting place. Because food is our most primal need and our common bond to the earth and one another, it can ground us as we stretch ourselves to draw in all the interlaced threads—so we can weave a whole, meaningful picture for ourselves.
I still believe food has this unique power. |

I've seen many ophthalmologists and university professors, read books on ophthalmology, and I hope I'll take my degree in medicine very soon.) At this point, I can't do anything else but hope that all these ophthalmologists could be denied.
It's true (as you know it well, since you study medicine) that it's very hard to overcome the theories and scientific dogmas in any field—especially in the medical one. Who would dare to question an already accepted theory? Now, too many previous certainties are questioned and the standard mantra about genetics is wearing thin. |

To get started, however, I do have to compliment the New hope staff and show organizers. Even with some of the grumbling from vendors I'm about to reveal here, the show was, in my opinion, a huge success. It really is a must-see event for anyone in the industry, and the crowds were even thicker this year, meaning there's an increase in public interest in natural products. So kudos to the New hope folks who put this together. It's no small feat to make the show work.

I would hope we all want to eventually live in a society that is no longer dependent on foreign oil, a society that is able to provide basic transportation needs with its own sources of power. Do we want to continue polluting our world and destroying our environment through the burning of fossil fuels? Driving an electric car helps eliminates such destructive dynamics, and the Tesla Roadster seems to be taking us all in the right direction.
Let's hope Toyota is paying attention, too, and is working on its own all-electric vehicle that we can all afford. |

However, there's one area where I hope the author is incorrect: the search for alternative energy sources. Kunstler refutes the idea that there are any viable replacements for oil, but I believe we may yet find hope in the search for alternative, renewable energy sources.
Nuclear, solar, wind, cold fusion, gas hydrates and many other areas of alternative energy are discussed in the book, and each one is shown to be inadequate in replacing the loss of fossil fuels that seems inevitable. |
