| Both the juice and the whole fruit block liver enzymes that break down and clear drugs from the body. Eating grapefruit when you're on certain medications is like taking a higher dose, which can result in excessive levels of the drug in the blood.

For example, eating apple pie is counted as a fruit in clinical trials. Personally, I wouldn't count that as a fruit. It's a cooked, sugary apple pie made with hydrogenated oils, refined white flour and refined sugar in the crust. To me, that's not fruit. That's junk food. But medical studies call that "fruit."
The same is true with vegetables: a lot of people might think spinach lasagna counts as a vegetable serving. And, again, I consider that to be junk food. |

One is that the fruit content, the fruit concentrates in this product, are higher than in many other products, which is great.
Dr. Weiss: Without fruit sugars, it's just the fruit content and its flavor.
Mike: Right. And it doesn't have wheat grass in it, correct?
Dr. Weiss: Right.
Mike: So, you don't get that grassy taste. Plus there's a little bit of stevia in it.
Dr. Weiss: Yes, there's enough stevia to freshen the flavor up. The wheatgrass and spirulina were both things that we considered putting in for a long time. |

Geesh! Why all the funny math?

Just pure, freeze-fried mangosteen fruit, which is extremely high in xanthones (natural plant-based medicines).
Trade Joe's is also now offering freeze-dried rambutan (yum!) and dried lychee fruit (also yum, but not as much yum as the fresh lychee fruit). They also have a new cashew nut mix called Capitola Cashew which is tasty and not too sweet or salty. It's not organic or raw, but if you're looking for a new taste sensation while eating a relatively healthy snack, this is a great way to go! |

Beware of Contaminated Fruits and Vegetables
Fruits and vegetables contaminated with bacteria such as salmonella and E. coli now cause more illness than raw chicken or eggs. The contamination comes from the use of manure as a fertilizer or from cross-contamination in home and restaurant kitchens. |

I eat fresh fruit daily, and I also take fruit concentrates every day. It's one of the reasons I stay so fit and healthy while having no need whatsoever for pharmaceuticals.
The FruitFlex product is highly concentrated, with each softgel capsule delivering over 100mg of anthocyanins, 20mg of flavones and 30mg of tannins (those are all names of some of the natural medicines found in cherries). You'd have to chew your way through a whole lot of cherries to get the same nutrition.
Plus, softgels are easy to take to work or carry on a plane. |

Plants that produce edible fruit evolved that way for their own benefit. Animals pick fruit and eat it. The fruit contains seeds. Animals walk or lope or swing or fly away and eventually they deposit those seeds somewhere else, giving the plant a chance to spread and reproduce. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree— unless an animal eats it and takes it for a ride. It's a gastronomic hitchhike, and it works well for everybody. |

Due to their unshaken faith in this research and its underlying assumptions, they refuse to consider the possibility that there is no fruit at the top of the tree. It is ironic that, whereas Gregor Mendel did not need twins to make his landmark discoveries, psychiatric geneticists' misguided faith in twin research has led them into a blind alley. Fortunately, the continuing failures in psychiatric molecular genetic research have value in that they provide further evidence against the twin method's validity as an instrument for the detection of genetic influences on psychiatric disorders. |

When the fruits ripen and fall from the tree, local families harvest the windfall, then remove the inner fruit from the outer shell. The shell is then dried in the sun, using absolutely no chemical processing or manufacturing processes. In fact, the whole process uses no fossil fuels either, except in the transportation of the product to the western world (which is efficiently accomplished by ship).
It is this outer shell -- rich in natural saponins which act as water surfactants -- that the native families in India have used for centuries to wash their own clothes. |

A "fruit" product need not contain even a single molecule of fruit. Don't be fooled by product names printed on the packaging. These names are designed to sell products, not to accurately describe the ingredients contained in the package.
Ingredients lists don't include contaminants
There is no requirement for food ingredients lists to include the names of chemical contaminants, heavy metals, bisphenol-A, PCBs, perchlorate or other toxic substances found in the food. |

We do know from epidemiologic studies that vegetable and fruit consumption is protective against cancer and, from our work, we would suggest that berries be one of those helpings, at least two or three times a week," said Stoner.
Clinical trials are underway to examine the potential of black raspberries to prevent esophageal and colon cancer in humans. Stoner and his team have begun analyzing the effects of the fruit in people with Barrett's esophagus (a condition of the esophagus that increases risk of esophageal cancer) and precancerous colon polyps. |

Population studies have linked fruit and vegetable consumption with lowering the risk for chronic diseases including specific cancers and heart disease. However, media and consumer interest in phytonutrients and functional foods is far ahead of established proof that documents the health benefits of these foods or food components for humans. Phytonutrients research is experiencing remarkable growth. |

It smelled of fruit, but not of any particular fruit, perhaps some compromise between peach and apricot, though more vivid and less subtle than either. It only lasted a few seconds, but left an impression of indefinable oddness. It was only much later that I managed to put a ringer on why it was odd, and it came to me suddenly as a picture, not words. What was strange about the fruity whiff was what was missing: colour. The grey of the concrete, the pleasant wind in the blue sky, the green of the English countryside - all were accounted for, pictures and smells present and correct. |

Contrary to United Fruit's claims, Arbenz did not seek to abolish private property. However, he did want to redistribute more than 100,000 hectares of company-leased land to small farmers and promote microcapitalism. Unfortunately for Arbenz, U.S. Secretary of State John Foster Dulles had personally drafted the banana company's generous ninety-nine-year lease in 1936. With Dulles on United Fruit's side, even the pretense of Communist influence was enough to motivate a CIA-engineered coup in the opening years of the cold war. |
