| One day Old Man determined that he would make a woman and a child; so he formed them both—the woman and the child, her son—of clay. After he had moulded the clay in human shape, he said to the clay, 'You must be people,' and then he covered it up and left it, and went away. The next morning he went to the place and took the covering off, and saw that the clay shapes had changed a little. The second morning there was still more change, and the third still more. The fourth morning he went to the place, took the covering off, looked at the images, and told them to rise and walk; and they did so. |

Brewer's yeast. Its high protein and B-vitamin content make it an excellent skin food, both inside and out. Mix with warm water, chamomile tea, or rosewater to form a paste. For dry skin, mix in cream or mashed avocados and water. For normal to oily skin, enrich with yogurt and/or an egg. |

Another approach is the clay mask. Versions of this are sold in drugstores and at cosmetics counters. We don't know why it would work, but it has been popular for a long time.

Q. / taught pottery at a vocational program in the Dominican Republic some years ago. My teenage students often smeared liquid local clay from our workshop on their faces as a cure for acne. The treatment worked.
A. We've never seen a scientifically solid study of clay for treating acne. But clearly, clay masks have been used as a complexion aid for centuries. |

| A word of caution however—Bentonite clay should not be taken if you are pregnant, of advanced age, or for at least two hours after taking other medications or nutritional supplements. No known side effects are associated with ingesting pure organic sources of this healing clay in the recommended amounts. However, Bentonite clay has not been subject to a longitudinal study focusing on its physiological effects in humans. It's always best to consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before taking any new supplement. |

On the grounds of the Bright Spot for Health, a nutritionally oriented medical clinic in Wichita, Kansas, stressed staff members and patients can walk over to a specified area to throw and break"clay pigeons."These are the same hardened clay disks used in sport target shooting. Of course, shooting isn't allowed here, so people can take a few clay disks, throw them against a wall, and enjoy seeing them shatter.
It works wonders. |

It works wonders. In one case, a patient with serious skin problems and a lot of repressed anger found that her skin tone improved within days of spending time tossing and breaking the clay disks.
Back off. Backing off involves consciously retreating, which is different from simply not engaging. This is especially important if you see body language that hints at impending violence. |

Clay is not the only traditional "poultice" that has been applied to blemishes. We've heard of one home remedy that calls for mixing a teaspoon of powdered nutmeg with a teaspoon of honey and putting it on the zit for 20 minutes.8 Then it is rinsed off, just as the nutmeg-milk mixture or milk alone would be. |

When gallstones in the liver or gallbladder have critically impeded bile flow, the color of the stool may be tan, orange-yellow, or pale as in clay, instead of the normal greenish-brown.
Gallstones are a direct product of an unhealthy diet and lifestyle. If gallstones are still present in the liver or gallbladder even after all other disease-causing factors are eliminated, they pose a considerable health risk and may lead to illness and premature aging. For this reason, the subject of gallstones has been included here as a major risk factor or cause of disease. |

Combine these oils in a plastic spray bottle and spray the mixture onto the hair twice a clay, leaving it in for two hours each time before washing the hair thoroughly. You can cover the hair with a towel or shower cap while the mixture is on. Make sure you comb the hair well after you wash it to make sure the lice and nits are removed.
Garlic: Garlic has antiparasitic properties and will help your child's body fight a head lice infestation. Mix 10 drops of garlic oil with 2 oz of olive oil. Rub this mixture into the hair and scalp for five minutes and leave on overnight. |

BURSITIS
DIAGNOSIS
Bursitis is defined as inflammation of a bursa. Bursas are enclosed, round sacs filled with viscous fluid, located between the bone and the muscle tendons or between skin and tendons. They help cushion the tendon and prevent friction between it and the bone to allow increased range of motion. |
| Cover the wrap with hot towels or a heated clay pack. Replenish the heated towels as necessary to keep the area warm and leave on for 30-45 minutes. Repeat three times daily.
Comfrey: This herb can be used topically to relieve pain and heal tissue. It is cooling and moisturizing, and acts as a mild analgesic and potent anti-inflammatory. It can be used to heal trauma to the bones, arthritis, bruises, tendonitis, and bursitis. Create a poultice of fresh or moistened roots and leaves by mashing them into a paste (add water if needed). | Place the poultice (or paste) on the affected area. |
| Herbs: Take 80 mg of black cohosh twice a clay; studies show that it alleviates hot flushes. Chaste berry has historically been used to prevent of hot flashes. Take 160-240 mg of an 0.6 % aucubin extract daily. Take 40 mg of red clover twice a day, as it has been shown to reduce some of the symptoms of menopause. Hops, taken at 250 mg three times a day, can help to reduce anxiety and tension, which are common menopausal symptoms, and has hormone-balancing effects. Soy protein powder has been shown in some studies to reduce hot flashes. Take 60 g a day mixed into a smoothie. |

Water poured into the pot filters through its walls into a second, outside pot; in the process most bacteria get trapped, since they're too large to travel through the porous clay; the silver in the clay kills any bacteria that are small enough to pass through. The pots cost about nine dollars apiece and last for three years. Their manufacture also helps boost local economies; a Filtron factory can be set up for just three thousand dollars. |

HOMEOPATHY
The following homeopathic first aid measures can play a positive role in gently, but efficiently, speeding up recovery from a black eye. It is, however, important that the injury is first assessed by a doctor or optometrist. If the black eye is severe, there is a risk that further complications may develop, such as damage to the eyeball, or a concussion.
Arnica: This remedy is generally the first choice to treat a black eye. |

For example, the photons (particles of light) that are constantly generated in the air that surrounds you, have a different characteristic pattern of energy than the energy that is created by the particles sitting in a piece of clay or the water that flows in a stream. All existing matter, no matter how dense, is but a process of a constant intermingling of these five elements or vibrational energies. In the body, these elemental energies are grouped together and represented as the three doshas, thereby forming an inseparable link with the environment. |
| Note: although part of the black sand consists of metals, it may partially be due to impurities in the clay.
A note on tooth extractions: In case a tooth needs to be extracted, be aware that tooth extractions can cause lasting illness if the "cavitations" are not cleaned properly. When a tooth is extracted, dead tissue can be left behind and attract infectious bacteria. This has been known to cause serious lasting fatigue. Cleaning out such cavitations can improve your well-being dramatically.
A note on root canals: Root canals can become a source of sickness in the body. |
