Instructions for submitting your own "Five Steps" solution

This feature is currently in beta. Posts will be accepted and processed on a delayed schedule (may take 7 - 10 working days).

This is where you can enter your five-step solution to any issue related to health, environment, relationships, self-improvement or other similar areas. As part of your five steps, you may openly promote your own books, website, products or other resources that may help readers achieve a genuine solution.

That's one of the reasons why so many people are excited about this "Five Steps" system. In exchange for you providing us with solution-oriented content that we can publish on our online network, we publicize and promote your five step solution to share it with half a million readers who are interested in natural health, green living, self improvement, renewable energy and other progressive-oriented topics.

You always get full credit for your solution, as we include the author name, bio and picture (if you choose to provide one), along with anything else you wish to share: Your website, blog, book, company, products, non-profits, and so on. The tone of your solution, however, must be information oriented and non-commercial. Our aim is to provide readers with genuine solutions in five simple steps, so please keep in mind that the steps should be primarily focused on the information, not products. (Click here to see an example of the tone we're looking for.)

Tips for submitting a Five Step solution

  • Be specific! Do not write general solutions like, "Five steps to improving your health." That's not specific enough. Get detailed. A better title would be, "Five steps to improving the health of your heart" or "Five steps to easier, more comfortable travel" or even "Five steps for reducing the stress in your life." Keep it specific.
  • Keep it simple! Write for the general public and do not assume they have any technical knowledge. Explain advanced concepts.
  • Keep it short! You might offer as little as one paragraph per step, making five paragraphs total. Or, as in our example, you might write several paragraphs for each step. But don't go overboard and write an entire report for each step. Readers expect these solutions to be short, simple and to the point.
  • Encourage the next step! At the end of each step, offer a "teaser" sentence that hints at what the next step will be. This will greatly improve readership of all five steps and get people to your recommended resources and bio information presented at the conclusion of the five steps.
  • Web addresses will be linked! If you include web addresses or URLs in your text, they will be automatically hyperlinked when published. So you do not need to add href tags or any complex HTML code. But you may use simple code such as bold tags or italics, if you wish.
  • Your privacy is protected: Want to post something but don't want to use your real name? Feel free to use a pen name or stage name to post your solution.
  • Break up long paragraphs: If you have long blocks of text, break them up with a blank line between paragraphs.
  • Repeat your top keywords in each step: If you want your Five Step solution to get better search engine rankings and visibility, be sure to repeat your top concepts and keywords in the text for each of the five steps. If your solution is about reversing diabetes, for example, be sure to use the word "diabetes" throughout all five steps.

How it works

After you submit your five steps, our editors will review your post according to our quality control guidelines. We reserve the right to reject posts (in which case we will inform the author of the reasons for rejecting the post), accept posts or edit posts for clarity and flow. You also give us the unlimited right to post, publish or republish the five steps in any form we desire, as long as we include your author section. (That way, you always get the publicity, regardless of where we find new opportunities to publish and promote these solutions.)

If a post is accepted, it will be published usually within 3 business days and will appear on NewsTarget and other websites. Your author information will always be included with the post.

If a post is rejected, it will not be published. Rejection of a post usually happens for one of the following reasons:

  • Poor writing: If the post contains obvious spelling or grammatical errors. We strongly suggest that you spellcheck your work before submitting it here.
  • Excessively commercial: Posts that are blatant advertisements, or which do not properly emphasize the educational nature of the Five Step system, will be rejected.
  • Off topic: Keep your topic focused on progressive, solution-oriented topics (basically, things that make the world a better place to live). If you're unsure about your topic, see the topic suggestions below. Avoid submitting topics that are overly technical or would only be interesting to a specialist. Remember: These solutions are to help educate the general public.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if my solution only requires four steps, not five?
If you need more steps, you can always add a "preparation" step at the beginning, or an "advanced" step at the end. You can also use step #5 as a "resources" step. Be creative, and you'll find ways to fill all five steps.

What if my solution requires MORE than five steps?
Condense it to five. All processes -- even highly complex ones like building the space shuttle -- can be summarized in five steps. It's all about keeping it simple and remembering that you are writing an overview, not a technical manual.

Can I upload pictures to show with my five steps?
We do not currently support pictures, but you can always embed pictures in your five steps text using IMG SRC tags, assuming you know how to construct them in HTML. We hope to add picture support at a later date.

How do I insert clickable web links?
Simply enter the address normally, and it will be automatically hyperlinked. You can begin an address with http:// or just www. Either format will be recognized and hyperlinked automatically.

How do I user bold or italics??
Use the proper HTML tags: <B>bolded words</B> or <em>italicized words</em>

Title of your five steps*:

Example: How to end chocolate cravings in five easy steps

Tips:
  • Be specific. The title is what will sell your entire solution to prospective readers. Good titles promise useful solutions to specific challenges or goals while arousing curiosity.
  • In most cases, you'll want to start the title with the words "How to."
  • The standard format for the title is: "How to X in five steps." Examples: "How to control blood sugar in five steps." "How to improve your sleep in five steps." "How to conquer leg cramps in five steps."
  • You may choose to improve the title by adding an adjective in this format: "How to X in five Y steps." Examples: "How to control blood sugar in five simple steps." "How to improve your sleep in five easy steps." "How to conquer leg cramps in five scientifically proven steps."
  • You may also expand on the title with this pattern: "How to X in five Y steps without Z." Examples: "How to control high cholesterol in five simple steps without pharmaceuticals." "How to train your dog in five easy steps using positive reinforcement." "How to switch to organic gardening and avoid all pesticides, herbicides and chemicals." Or even, "Five ways to X..."
  • Do not use ALL CAPS in the title. Stick with sentence case, please.

Introduction text*:

Example: Struggling with intense cravings for chocolate? It may be a signal that you need something provided by chocolate. In these five steps, you'll learn how to overcome chocolate cravings naturally, easily and effortlessly.

Tip: Include at least two paragraphs, but no more than five. Separate paragraphs with blank lines.

The Steps

Please provide a title and description for each of the five steps in your solution.

Step 1:

Other signs of magnesium deficiency include muscle cramps and chronic muscle tension. (Plus another paragraph or two...)

Tips:

  • All step titles MUST have an action verb that direct the reader to follow a specific action.
  • Include at least two paragraphs, but no more than five. Use blank lines between paragraphs.
  • Feel free to make resource recommendations in the Five Steps text areas. If you use web addresses or URLs, they will automatically be hyperlinked. You do not need to use HREF tags.
