Storable food companies achieve high calorie counts with cheap GMO corn, soy and sugars

Survival food

(NaturalNews) Storable food is meant to carry you and your loved ones through a disaster situation where other sources of nutrition might be rare or nonexistent, so it's no surprise that many of these foods are highly calorie dense.

But nutrition means more than calories, and many storable food products bulk up their calorie counts with empty calories in the form of sugars and refined starches. To make matters worse, these empty calories are almost universally sourced from genetically modified (GMO) corn and soy.

For people who want their storable food rich in real nutrients and free of synthetic ingredients, a new option is available: Numanna organic survival meals.

Will these foods really help you survive?

Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, recently reviewed the ingredient labels of all the major brands of survival foods, and declared them filled with empty calories, GMOs, pesticides and dangerous chemical additives.

Common sources of empty calories include not just the obvious ones like sugars or derivatives of corn syrup, but also other forms of sugar or refined starch such as maltodextrin or dextrose. Another common filler food is bleached white flour, which has been stripped of 90 percent of its mineral content and turned into a slightly more complex form of sugar.

Other ingredients of concern include everything made from soy, corn or canola, which is by definition GMO if it's not organic. This includes soy-based products such as textured vegetable protein (TVP). Dairy derivatives such as sodium caseinate are also likely contaminated with GMOs and bovine growth hormone (rBGH).

Finally, these foods also contain a laundry list of chemical additives such as artificial colors or monosodium glutamate (MSG) and its mimics, such as yeast extract or hydrolyzed or autolyzed vegetable protein. And of course they're covered in chemical residue from poisons such as Monsanto's Roundup (glyphosate), which is sprayed in enormous quantities over all GMO fields.

While empty calories and toxic ingredients are never great things to put into your body, they become much more harmful in a survival situation in which your body is under severe stress. After all, many of these additives have been linked to problems such as kidney and liver damage, cognitive impairment, reduced immune function, hampered fertility, slowed healing and fatigue.

"Eating survival food in an emergency shouldn't mean poisoning yourself with toxic chemicals, and it's long past time that the survival food industry stopped using chemical ingredients that promote disease and death," Adams said.

Finally, an alternative

In order to provide an alternative, Adams partnered with an existing storable foods company to co-formulate Numanna organic survival foods, the only storable foods that are verified free of contaminants by an ISO 17025-accredited laboratory (CWC labs).

Like other storable meals, Numanna products can be turned into edible food just by adding boiling water. Unlike other products on the market, however, they are lab-tested, free from GMOs and made from 95 percent organic ingredients and no chemical additives. These products are guaranteed free from pesticides, herbicides, chemical preservatives, MSG (in any form), artificial colors or flavors, and chemicals such as polysorbate 80 or propylene glycol.

For example, the Italian Pasta Marinara contains only: Organic Pasta (Organic Whole Durum Wheat Flour, Organic Milled Flaxseed), Organic spray dried Tomato, Organic Cornstarch, Organic Dehydrated Vegetables (Onions, Tomatoes, Green Bell Peppers), Organic Cane Sugar, Organic Garlic, Sea Salt, Organic Parsley, Organic Annatto Color, Organic Spices.

Additionally, many of the meals included in the Numanna Organic Family Pack are made with flaxseed for an extra boost of essential omega-3 fatty acids.

"The Numanna Organic Family Pack, which is the cleanest, most laboratory-validated, wholesome, honest and trustworthy survival food product ever created," Adams said.
