BIZARRE: Denmark may tax red meat as part of 'ethics' law that claims to halt global warming

Denmark

(NaturalNews) It's official: The global warming-climate change loonies have officially taken over the asylum, at least in Denmark, where a 'respected' panel just made one of the most incredibly short-sighted and dumb recommendations to the national government.

As reported by the UK's Independent, the government is actually considering an idea forwarded by the Danish Council of Ethics to slap a major tax on all red meat because, you know, "climate change is an ethical problem," the panel stated, and the production of red meat is part of the problem.

Council members approved the measures by an overwhelming majority, the paper noted in its online edition, so now it will go to the Danish government for actual consideration.

In a press release quoted by the Independent, the ethics council declared Denmark vitally threatened by climate change, and as such, it wasn't enough to rely on the "ethical consumer" to ensure that the country meets insane commitments made to the United Nations. Translated: The people cannot be trusted to do the right thing – which is whatever the globalarmists demand, no matter how silly or unproven – so they've got to be punished with the heavy hand of government to force them to make ethical 'choices.'

Destruction of the Danish cattle industry

"The Danish way of life is far from climate-sustainable, and if we are to live up to the Paris Agreement target of keeping the global temperature rise 'well' below 2°C, it is necessary both to act quickly and involve food," the council said, without offering a shred of scientific evidence or reliable studies to support their statement.

"For a response to climate-damaging food to be effective, while also contributing to raise awareness of the challenge of climate change, it must be shared," said council spokesman Mickey Gjerris.

"This requires society to send a clear signal through regulation."

And you thought American regulators, bureaucrats and politicians were insane!

The Independent offered up some of the usual scientific gruel when such craziness needs to be justified, like, cattle methane accounts for "some 10 per cent" (like anyone really knows) of "global greenhouse gas emissions." The paper even hints that food production in general is to blame, citing a statistic that says it accounts for somewhere between 19 and 29 percent of emissions. (So, we should cut back on food production, or ... ?)

The panel claimed that Danes were "ethically obliged" to change their eating habits – when pleading won't do, turn to shaming, and then, as a last final resort, use government force – adding that it's "unproblematic" to cut out beef altogether and still enjoy a healthy diet.

First off, this idea is about as stupid as it gets. Millions of cattle feed on land that is otherwise unsuitable for producing crops – thereby reducing their impact on food production, which the Danish ethics board has a problem with anyway. And also, the human species is largely carnivorous and can tolerate reasonable intake of red meat.

'Hoax'

And besides, not everyone can be a healthy vegetarian; what are people with Type O blood – who need red meat because they are genetically predisposed to need it – supposed to do? Should they stop being Danish? (Although the thought of moving to a less climate-hysterical country probably wouldn't be a bad idea.)

It's one thing in a democracy (or, in our case, a republic with elements of democracy), to stump for an idea, for a behavior, for a change in lifestyle. But, when various interested parties resort to government force in order to see their policy preferences enacted, then those nations cease to be free.

It's even worse when the premise of a policy change isn't even based on factual data or real science, but rather something more resembling a religion, or worse, a fanatical cult. That's what global warming/climate change is – nothing more. It is a hoax of the grandest design, and it's about to victimize and destroy Denmark's cattle industry.
