JFK customs agents allow 150 passengers from Mexico to walk right through security and exit the airport ... Terrorists on board?

US customs

(NaturalNews) It's no wonder fewer and fewer Americans trust the Obama administration to protect them from emerging terrorism threats – especially when you hear about things like this.

In recent days, as first reported by the New York Daily News, airline and airport security officials at JFK International Airport in New York City allowed 150 passengers who had arrived on an international flight to leave the airport without properly vetting them through U.S. Customs.

The paper, in online editions, noted that American Airlines Flight 1671 arrived at JFK from Cancun, Mexico, around 8:50 p.m. on November 20, a Friday. After the plane landed and the passengers departed, many walked right out of the airport without ever having had their passports or luggage examined by Customs and Border Protection personnel, sources told the paper.

One source who was familiar with the goof said passengers who got off the plane "just followed" a gate agent. What's more, the security mistake came only two days after members of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, whose operatives attacked Paris and killed 130 people just a week before, released a video claiming the terrorist organization was targeting the Big Apple.

"Some passengers on Flight 1671 did not complete immigration and customs process upon arrival when they were inadvertently directed to the domestic terminal," American Airlines said in a statement, the NY Daily News noted.

Failures like this just can't happen in the age of terrorism

The paper reported that American Airlines managed to contact the passengers and directed them to come back to JFK for customs processing. One official told the paper that 144 had returned (perhaps more by this writing), and that the remaining six are all U.S. citizens – not that that matters in this age of terrorism.

The airline said that it was working with Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to make sure that they "complete the process and to prevent this from happening in the future," the company's statement said.

Some passengers who spoke with the paper complained of heavy-handed tactics being used by an obviously panicked American Airlines.

"None of us went through immigration or customs," one passenger told the NY Daily News, adding, "There were no signs for customs or anything. The only signs we saw were baggage claim and exit."

The passenger, who was not named in the report, further complained that airline officials had "been harassing me with phone calls — they're coming from high-up people at American Airlines, (Transportation Security Administration) and customs... They're very aggressive."

A second passenger said basically the same thing.

"They're telling me that I am here illegally, that I'm trespassing!" the passenger told the Daily News. "They said, 'If you don't come in Monday, we're sending FBI agents to your house.'"

Both of them said in separate interviews that they returned to JFK from Connecticut to comply with instructions and clear the air (and keep in mind that this was not their mistake).

What's also telling about this incident is that no matter how big the central government gets, it remains incapable of performing airport security – as advertised in this case. And in the age of terrorism, that's a big deal.

ISIS sympathizers want us disarmed, too

In a separate column, the paper reported just days after the Paris attacks, that five Syrians had been arrested by Honduran officials in that country, after it was discovered that they were carrying stolen Greek passports. What makes that noteworthy is the fact that one of the Paris attackers was a Syrian who held a Greek refugee passport.

As noted by Bloomberg Business:

"The Syrian passport found next to the body of one of the suicide bombers in Paris yesterday was registered on the Greek island of Leros, the Greek government said, suggesting that the holder came into Europe claiming to be a political refugee."

It's bad enough in this age of terrorism that ISIS sympathizers like the editors and ownership of The New York Times want the Obama administration to confiscate firearms from American citizens. That's made even worse in the context that our own "security" apparatus is also failing to adequately protect us.
