(NaturalNews) We know that cancer is out of control, yet we can't seem to slow it down. Cancer has been ingrained into our psyche and is now a significant part of our cultural identity. We have either had it, are dealing with it, or know someone that has been adversely affected by it.

So what factors are we interacting with on a consistent basis that are producing cumulative "hits" that eventually initiate or promote cancer growth?

Everyday factors contributing to cancer

When examining such an exhaustive list, it is important to understand that as long as someone avoids being hit by most of these factors (and doesn't expose themselves to concentrated "doses" of any of them on a daily basis), it's possible they won't develop symptomatic cancer in their lifetime.

According to the "multiple-hit theory", all cancers arise from at least two changes or "hits" to cellular genes. As the double hits build up, a breaking point is eventually reached and cancerous growth is switched on. These hits will more than likely come from one of the 28 factors listed below.

The most critical factors are the number and type of carcinogenic hits, their frequency, and their intensity. Some of these hits are cancer "initiators" while others are "promoters". Either way, it is wise to avoid and/or counteract as many of these as possible:

1. Viral, bacterial, and fungal infections
2. Nutritional deficiencies
3. EMF and radiation exposure from electronics and appliances
4. Parasites
5. Pesticides and herbicides
6. Consumption of synthetic 'foods' (processed and GMO)
7. Industrial toxins
8. Drinking or bathing in polluted, chlorinated, or fluoridated water
9. Smoking
10. Intestinal toxicity
11. Immune suppressive drugs
12. Consuming irradiated foods and food additives
13. Heavy metal toxicity
14. Metal dental fillings, root canals, and cavitations
15. Use of street, prescription and non-prescription drugs
16. Excess exposure to sunlight ultraviolet rays
17. Hormonal therapies
18. Chronic stress
19. Negative emotions
20. Depressed thyroid
21. Nuclear radiation
22. X-rays
23. Overhead power lines
24. Blocked detoxification pathways
25. Genetic predisposition
26. Physical irritants (e.g. asbestos)
27. Geopathic stress
28. Alcohol consumption

Any of these precursor carcinogens (procarcinogens) can initiate or promote a tumor. Potentially cancerous changes begin in a damaged cell's DNA following the second carcinogenic hit. Uncontrolled growth follows, eventually progressing to a noticeable malignant lesion with a mass or tumor that may invade other tissues.

In the first step towards cancer development, initiation, the procarcinogenic hit can produce free radicals, which sets up the pathological process that damages the cell's DNA when the liver sets up an enzymatic reaction known as Phase One. This reaction causes the procarcinogen to convert into a full-fledged carcinogen. In addition to this, the liver creates Phase Two enzymes to remove the dangerous residue left from Phase One enzymes. The liver plays a very important role in cancer development, by simultaneously initiating carcinogenesis and neutralizing it.

In the second step towards cancer development, promotion, the liver's neutralization may not be effective enough and a damaged cell alters its pattern of normal cell division. It then begins to divide voluminously. The immune system then goes to work by recognizing these cells as foreign invaders and destroying them, but if it fails, the damaged cell can create a tumorous lesion.

In the third step towards full-blown cancer, progression, the tumor now attempts to build itself a blood supply for continual nourishment. This allows invasion of surrounding tissues to take place, and eventually, distant tissues as well. This opens up new avenues for the cancer to travel to other areas of the body not directly connected with the initial site (known as metastasis), and at this point, the cancer can be considered aggressive in nature.

To avoid this ugly development, avoid as many of the cancer causing factors above as you can, and nourish your body with a clean, whole foods diet including these Top 8 Foods and Herbs For Healing Cancer. Also check out Foods, Vitamins, and Herbs That Kill Cancer.
