(NaturalNews) An international conference, the "Oxford Real Farming Conference," was held in England's historic, massive Oxford Town Hall on January 6-7, 2014. It was reported on by an excellent paper, "Oxford Real Farming Conference: power, lies, and agrarian resistance" by Colin Tudge, one of the conference's co-founders

Colin is a biologist, activist founder of The Campaign for Real Farming website, lecturer and author of Good Food for Everyone Forever and Why Genes are Not Selfish and People are Nice. In his introductory paper, Colin cites three major lies that constitute the house of cards supporting not only GMOs, but all of current industrial farming.

He compares those lies to the hidden truths of what works better than Big Ag and offers them as real solutions to our agriculture, food distribution and soil sustainability crisis.

Lie number one: We must produce more food

The world already produces more food than necessary. It's the distribution of food, controlled by a few monolithic Big Ag corporations, that creates a situation where 1 billion in third-world countries are undernourished.

Meanwhile, another billion are eating too much corporate-processed and monoculture factory-farm-tainted foods and are afflicted with obesity, diabetes and the gamut of chronic health disorders that plague industrialized nations.

Food justice is of no interest to the corporations and oligarchs that control agriculture and the food supply. For them, it's all about short-term financial gains and long-term power and control.

Small to medium regional mixed-plant farms with less livestock is the model which Colin calls for. And there have been larges-scale UN studies which claim that this is the solution.

Lie number two: Agrochemicals and GMOs with large scale farming are necessary

This lie is used to erode and ultimately destroy small to medium traditional farms. They're considered in the way of progress with anti-scientific superstitions and backwards traditions that can't keep up with the world's expanding population.

And with the help of intertwined fascist governments, they are making progress slowly at destroying small to medium diverse and organic farms.

Traditional farming was replaced during Rockefeller's Green Revolution of the early 1940s with monstrous plots of grain and other mono-plant farms that needed high volumes of energy and mechanical input with synthetic fertilizing, herbicides and pesticides.

Then the results are fed into the silos and plants of the Cargill-type corporate distributors for dispensing to large food manufacturers like General Mills, PepsiCo, Nestle and others.

Lots of fat-cat middle men are involved in that process of feeding citizens food that is second rate at best and toxic at worst. Colin says this needs to go slowly as more become aware and take care of food production and distribution within local communities. With some financial assistance and improved infrastructure, even third-world farms can do better than Big Ag.

Colin points out that "small traditional farms that are so despised and routinely swept aside still produce 50% of the world's food. The remaining 20% comes from fishing, hunting, and people's back gardens." Colin also stated that the remaining 30% from industrial farming usurps 80% of government farm subsidies and 90% of research budgets.

By the way, a lot of those home garden plots furnish almost half of Russia's food supply and virtually all of Cuba's. This movement has spread to the San Francisco Bay Area with civic approval.

Lie number three: Food is boring without meat

The incredible increase in meat demand has resulted in forests being cleared worldwide to raise GM corn and soy for feeding livestock unnatural toxic diets in crowded infested factory farms, forcing 70 or more percent of all existing pharmaceutical antibiotics to be used on them while they're treated poorly and cruelly slaughtered.

Many cultures have survived thousands of years on plant-based diets with meat consumed sparingly. When's the last time you ordered a 12 ounce steak at a Chinese restaurant?

Small farms can raise enough livestock humanely to produce sufficient healthier meats locally. The meat three times daily diet is not as necessary as claimed, folks.
