(NaturalNews) There is a lot of advice on "keeping pounds off over the weekend," but most of it falls flat and leaves a feeling of defeat on Monday. Anything that focuses on depriving yourself creates a feeling of deprivation. You can totally relax yourself until Sunday evening, maybe you will eat and drink extravagantly and make your weight loss plan end up in failure. While losing weight on the weekends is possible, doing so requires a bit of discipline on your part...

Turn that advice around and focus on the healthy choices you are actually making:

  • Pay attention to what you are eating

The reason why many gain pounds over the weekend is mindless intake of calories. Taking in a movie with friends can mean turning into a row of zombies shoveling in popcorn laden with artificial butter flavoring and salt, washed down by gallons of hyper-sweet drink. You can still watch the movie with friends, but choose to portion yourself a cup of popcorn and a small drink and enjoy the taste of the treats before you enjoy the show.
  • Think about what you are drinking

A liquid calorie is still going to be a calorie and stay on the body if it isn't used up in exercise. Know the numbers for your favorite drinks and choose smaller versions of those you enjoy the most if they are high-calorie. And don't forget that water is what you are actually thirsty for!
  • Reward yourself with more than food or drink

You are more than an eating-and-drinking-machine. You are on the road to becoming a healthier version of a personality who has a lot of interests and enjoys many activities. When you eat huge portions, your sense of taste and enjoyment dulls. Choosing to savor the experience with smaller portions means that sense of taste and enjoyment is experienced to the max and gives you much more pleasure. But going on a walk with a friend, switching up a workout, reading a book or watching the birds or the people in the park...those things are rewarding too.
  • Give your house a fresh cleaning

Cleaning the windows, mopping the floor, taking out the trash...doing such simple housework can burn hundreds of calories. You can make a plan of doing one thoroughgoing cleaning job every weekend, which will both help you burn off the weekend brunch and leave your house clean.

You have lots to choose from every weekend -- make healthy, rewarding choices and enjoy them!
