Obama apologists who defend NSA spy program are suddenly pals with Dick Cheney, too

(NaturalNews) For Americans who still believe we have a legitimate two-party political system, and that each party has its own set of principles, values and beliefs that are diametrically different than those of the other party, should abandon that fallacy pronto, because frankly, it just ain't true.

While officially there may be two major parties in power - Democrats and Republicans - there is only one mindset among members of both parties, and it is an adherence to, and belief in, Big Government statism.

That is the only way to explain why House Republicans will only talk of repealing Obamacare (knowing they can't get a repeal through the Dem-controlled Senate or a Democrat president) instead of voting to defund its various provisions, which would effectively kill its implementation (without funding, agencies charged with implementing and managing it cannot do so). Because Republican leaders in the House (and Senate, for that matter) are Big Government advocates.

Think Bill Clinton and George H. W. Bush, whom Clinton defeated, when they "joined forces" to raise funds for yet another natural disaster in Haiti. Think New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie becoming President Obama's pal in the wake of Superstorm Sandy. Think of the so-called "Gang of 8," who have "come together" to pass "comprehensive immigration reform."

No more "left" or "right" - only more government

Doubt it? Then why are members of both parties coming down on the side of the National Security Agency (NSA), despite the fact that the NSA has engaged in wholesale spying on American citizens for "national security reasons" instead of complying with its mandate to primarily conduct electronic surveillance of suspects overseas?

If Republicans are loathe to back anything Barack Obama, Harry Reid, Dianne Feinstein and Nancy Pelosi support, then why are Republicans Lindsey Graham, John Boehner, John McCain and Dick Cheney, former President George W. Bush's VP, supporting them?

For that matter, why are Democrat liberals who used to loathe Cheney suddenly finding common ground with him over this NSA spy scandal?

Cheney, during a June 16 appearance on Fox News Sunday "slammed" a number of Obama Administration policies, but guess what? This architect of NSA spying during the Bush Administration wholeheartedly defended the agency again, saying - as all Big Government statists have been saying - that the NSA must spy on every American so we can be "protected."

Per a report on the interview by CBS News:

The former vice president also argued that the programs are critically necessary to prevent another attack in the future, especially given the grave threats America faces from terrorism today.

"When you consider somebody smuggling a nuclear device into the United States, it becomes very important to gather intelligence on your enemies and stop that attack before it ever gets launched," Cheney said, echoing Feinstein, et. al.'s charge that the NSA whistleblower, Edward Snowden, who leaked details of the NSA's massive unconstitutional spying program, was a "traitor."

And like his Dem peers, Cheney too accused Snowden of violating an "oath" of secrecy he took before taking his job with the NSA.

"I think it's one of the worst occasions in my memory of somebody with access to classified information doing enormous damage to the national security interests of the United States," Cheney said.

The fact is, the ruling establishment believes it can do whatever it wants

Sure, Dick. We've heard this before. Spy on Americans to prevent attacks by foreigners. Blame a whistleblower for "violating his oath" but give the NSA, your administration and the Obama Administration a pass for violating their constitutional oaths to the American people.

Big Government statists from both parties are upset that a 29-year-old analyst blew the whistle on their repeated violations of the public's trust and of the Constitution, and not for anything as noble as "protecting the country." No one from either party has explained why it is necessary to put every American who uses electronic forms of communication under surveillance, without probable cause, or how that "protects the country."

Maybe if the NSA had not been focused on intercepting every single American's electronic communications enough analysts would have been available to track and catch the Boston Marathon bombers.
