(NaturalNews) The first rule of detoxing is to stop taking in toxins. In these days of living in toxic soup environments, the only thing people can control completely is what is consumed.

The first step is eliminating junk food. Then eliminate processed foods, even from health food stores, unless you get educated enough to cover the ingredient labels with certainty. Baked goods using refined, bleached flour should be eliminated.

Then toss the sugar, high fructose corn syrup (HFCS), and all artificial sweeteners. Use local, raw unfiltered honey dispensed in bulk containers, ideally. Try to go with fresh organic produce only.

Use organic grains and dry legumes (beans). Health food stores carry them in bulk bins, so you'll save money that way even if they're organic. You'll need to soak dry beans overnight in purified non-fluoridated water, which is available inexpensively from reverse osmosis and charcoal filter machines in many stores.

Use healthy fats, like real butter, coconut oil, cold pressed olive oil, and fish oils. Unhealthy fats include canola oil and any processed oils with the label hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oil. That includes the plastic spread known as margarine. Avoid soy unless it's fermented.

If you've been a steady or part-time SAD (standard American diet) consumer, this dietary change alone will start your detoxification. Freed from a steady influx of toxins to handle the body will now be able to work on getting rid of stored toxins.

Foods that boost your body's detox efforts

Cilantro has clinically demonstrated an ability to detox mercury. Mercury is one of the worst toxic heavy metals to endure, and anyone with amalgam fillings has some mercury floating around in their body.

Use organic cilantro often as a garnishment for several dishes. Finely chopped cilantro goes well with grains, potatoes, and beans. It also blends well with soups. If your juicer masticates slowly, you can add cilantro that hasn't been chopped with the other veggies of your choice.

Some may consider this cheating by including a supplement, but chlorella is actually a food. Once considered a solution to world hunger because of its high protein and nutritional value, it's also useful for heavy metal detoxification.
