Letter to NaturalNews readers from the Hawaii GMO Justice Coalition
Aloha Mike and the Natural News Team members,
We formed the Hawaii GMO Justice Coalition to bring together the many groups on the islands and the mainland seeking justice against the GMO companies on Hawaii. For the past 25 years Hawaii has been the field trial lab of 95% of GMO crops, totaling over 5,000 field trials. After GMO seeds come out of the lab, the first place they are tested is Hawaii. About 15,000 acres of land is growing GMO crops on the Islands today that no one will ever eat.
Hawaii is the only place to have stopped the deregulation of a GMO crop. A moratorium on the planting of GMO Taro took place, because Hawaii farmers and citizens would not stand for it.
On
February 21, 2012 (at 12:30 pm) we are organizing a rally at the state capital to push for the passage of two laws, one is labeling of GMO Foods, the other is disclosure of field trial sites to allow people and farmers to decide if they want to live near a field trial site.
Our main partner, who has led the movement against Monsanto over the years, is the Organic Consumers Association (
