Sleep influences glucose levels and diabetes risk

(NewsTarget) Most people know that regularly getting a good night sleep is essential for both health and mental well being, and new research also shows that a good night sleep can influence diabetes too. Researchers at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia recently found that obese teenagers getting too much or too little sleep have disruptions in insulin secretion and higher blood sugar levels, which are contributing factors to type II diabetes. According to pediatric endocrinologist and study researcher, Dorit Koren, M.D., the association between sleep deprivation and having an increased risk of type II diabetes is consistent with research in adults too.

To keep blood sugar levels stable, it was found that the optimal amount of sleep for teenagers is between 7.5 to 8.5 hours nightly. The researchers studied 62 obese adolescents for over a day and a half, and the children underwent glucose testing and an overnight sleep study. In addition to measuring their total sleep time, their stages of sleep, including slow-wave "deep" sleep and REM dream sleep, were analyzed too.

In doing so, it was found that the children getting either too much or too little sleep had higher glucose levels, and elevated glucose levels are the determining factor in having diabetes. They also found that the individuals getting less deep, or slow wave, sleep had decreased insulin secretion, and insulin keeps our glucose, or blood sugar levels, down.

According to Koren, three out of four high school students report getting too little sleep. Other research tells us that more than ten percent of the population is chronically sleep deprived. In more recently published research, having a whole food diet that's rich in fruits and vegetables and that omits meat and dairy often reverses diabetes, especially type II.

According to Dr. Joel Fuhrman, research director for the National Health Association:

"The cure for type II diabetes is already known - removing the cause can reverse the disease, and the chief cause is excess weight from Western diet and inactivity. The best and safest 'medicine' for a diabetic is a high-nutrient density diet: focused on low-calorie, nutrient-rich plant foods and exercise."

Dr. Fuhrman also explains that nutrient dense, plant-based diets work not only by helping individuals lose excess weight, but also by increasing pancreas function and lowering insulin resistance. As the excess weight is lost, blood pressure normalizes and glucose levels drop, which effectively eliminates the disease.

He adds that with this diet, the majority of type II diabetics "are able to restore their glucose levels to the normal range without any further need for medications. They have essentially become non-diabetic again."

When it comes down to it, it's surprising how much healthcare is really about getting back to basics with lots of whole foods from nature, exercise, and just getting a good night sleep.

About the author

Kim Evans is a natural health writer and author of Cleaning Up! The Ultimate Body Cleanse. Cleaning Up! offers deep cleansing and using methods in this book, people have gotten rid of dozens of different types of health problems, as well as just losing excess weight, thinking more clearly, and feeling better.

Kim's next book chronicles events in her life that happen to match patterns in the Bible. She's also found three places in the Bible that tell us its about these patterns and even asking you to match them.
Here's a little from the upcoming book...
In Isaiah 22:20, it says, "And it must occur in that day that I will call my servant, namely Eliakim." But, because these prophecies are cryptic and they aren't meant to be understood until they are understood, it's only the last three letters.
A few lines later, it says, "From the land of Kittim it has been revealed to them."
Here, you just take out any three middle letters, and again, it's the name of the person bringing you this message, or the sacred secret of the prophecy. Actually, if you take those two passages, Kim is about the only name you can get from both of them.
In Numbers 1:1 – 1:18, it's talking about "the family" and mentions Pagiel. It also twice mentions February 1st, (Kim's birthday) and then says that the youngest is 20 years old. Kim's little sister Paige is currently 20 years old.
In Chronicles 1 11:20 it mentions the brother of Joab and then in the same sentence uses the word brandishing. Kim's middle name is Jo and her older sister's name is Brandi. There are other patterns to her sisters too but these sort of mention them by name.
Of course, it helps if you know that there is a magical spiritual reality available that comes deep cleansing and often major dietary upgrades. It's also why Jesus was teaching the same thing, if you find his teachings in the Essene Gospel of Peace. In this text, he even says things like, "You'll never see the father unless you clean your colon." But, this is paraphrased...
In the Bible Jesus says things more like, happy are those who wash their robes, as they can enter the tree of life. The tree of life is elsewhere explained as God's paradise. He also said, first clean the inside of the cup and then the outside will also be clean.
