(NaturalNews) If you really want to know the future of the supplement industry, you're in luck. Just plunk down $4795 for a new report called The Dietary Supplements Regulatory and Market Outlook.

The report is produced by Nature Publishing Group (NPG). They publish Scientific American and Nature. (I've disliked Nature since the editor of Nature, Sir John Maddox, allowed The Amazing Randi to skewer Jacques Benveniste's research after Benveniste proved that homeopathy works in 1988.)

The amount of money required to purchase the NPG report tells the whole story. In a nutshell – the supplement industry is heavily commercialized and mainstream and will probably soon be controlled by the pharmaceutical industry.

The writing has been on the wall for decades. I learned about the attempts to take over supplements in 2004 when I went to a Codex meeting in Bonn Germany. Codex is the code word for the regulation of food and dietary supplements by the World Trade Organization under the auspices of the World Health Organization. It's a huge topic that you can research through the National Health Federation (http://www.thenhf.com/) and the (Alliance for Natural Health http://www.anh-usa.org/).

This industry report can only mean that we've lost the battle. The Dietary Supplements Regulatory and Market Outlook covers vitamins and minerals, herbs and botanicals and sports and specialty supplements sold in Europe and the US. The report focuses specifically on industry growth and future opportunities as well as an in-depth assessment on the government regulatory landscape.

The report also gives a is detailed discussion about the U.S. Food Safety Modernization Act 2009 (HR 2749/S510), which is not really about our safety but paves the way for big business to overrun the organic food sector and the food supplement trade.

As Thomas Jefferson said in 1781 "If people let the government decide what foods they eat and what medicines they take, their bodies will soon be in as sorry a state as are the souls of those who live under tyranny."

According to the World Health Organization Constitution "The enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of health is one of the fundamental rights of every human being."

However, the US Dept of Health & Human Services and US Food & Drug Administration, in a 2010 statement maintains that: "There is no right to consume or feed children any particular food; there is no generalized right to bodily and physical health."

As I've always said, each and every one of us is responsible for our own health. Health is not about taking a handful of supplements or a handful of drugs. Health encompasses a good diet, exercise and a positive attitude. If you think you need more nutrition, juice fresh vegetables and drink green drinks. And if you really want supplements make them food-based. For advice on achieving a healthy lifestyle sign up for my free online newsletter and a free sample of my Future Health Now!
