The following is part four of an interview between Mike Adams and Dr. Hand Liers, the chief formulator of products sold by Health Products Distributors, Inc. (HPDI) (

Mike: I find that most of the people that I see in society today, or those that I interact with who are not into hardcore nutrition, say they are exhausted all the time. They get tired very, very easily. Even doing basic exercise, they just sort of conk out. You think that is related to the chemical burden? What is the nutritional link to that?
Dr. Liers: Of course, there are many links. The fact of the matter is, with the
diet that people are getting, they do not have the B factors or the minerals, so their
metabolism is not even working correctly. If your metabolism is not working correctly, you are not making ATP. Chlorella is a tremendous rejuvenator of ATP in the
body. Even at a simpler level, those co-factors that you need -- the B vitamins and
minerals -- they make that happen. They set the foundation for energy production.
You can have toxic
chemicals blocking mitochondria, too. Those are all components. I think the first component is low
nutrition. They just do not have the nutrition. I think second is the
toxic component. You build up
toxins in the body; you block enzymes that make things happen. The enzymatic processes just are not taking place. You need to get those toxins out.
You come down to the
liver as being a key organ. There are so many toxic livers out there because of the many burdens on the body, and so the liver finally starts to overflow. It cannot do its job anymore, especially when you do not give it the
nutrients that it needs. I think those are the main components.
Another one is
stress. We live in a world where people have cockeyed ideas about what they need to do, and if they do not do it, the whole body goes into a fight or flight response. When you are in a fight or flight response your whole biochemistry is changing. You need more nutrients. Eventually you exhaust your
adrenals, and when you have exhausted adrenals, nothing happens. Nothing works.
Those components together create what I call a "confluence of factors." All of them are hitting us in a crazy way. It is the toxic chemicals from not only heavy metals, but also the
pharmaceuticals. Toxic metals, very poor nutrition, and stress are making everything go downhill.
Mike: Isn't it impressive how many people are actually still alive and kicking given this? They get up in the morning. They shampoo with toxic fragrance chemicals. They drink the coffee, which depletes adrenals, and they smoke a cigarette. They suck car exhaust commuting to work. This burden is daily, and they do not take nutrition. How are they even alive?
Dr. Liers: I do think the body has some wisdom in terms of compartmentalization. There is probably a hierarchy in the body of: "We need to have this or we will not be alive. We will throw
heavy metals into bone. We can get away with that. We can throw pesticides into adipose tissue, and at least it is sequestered for a while." Eventually that, too, overflows. Then you have truly a degenerative situation. Each
generation is getting weaker because of what we are doing. They have less capability of strengthening themselves, of protecting themselves.
You mentioned another point: long-term genetic factors. I think the longer we do this the more we affect genetics in what we pass on. Then, what would pass on is weaker, too.
Mike: What we are seeing today is a great divergence in families and their future ability to even reproduce. For example, the families that raise their children on a healthy
lifestyle, free of most of the toxic chemicals and embracing nutrition, they have a future. They have a genetic future.
Those families that live the standard American lifestyle -- heavy toxic burden, no nutrition, dependence on pharmaceuticals -- they do not have a genetic future. At some point, the infertility rates become 100 percent in those groups. Is that an alarmist statement on my part, or is that accurate?
Dr. Liers: Certainly, we are moving in that direction. I think one of the studies that gives great insight into this question is Dr. Weston Price's work on physical degeneration and nutrition. He traveled around the world looking for people with no
cavities. He found only indigenous peoples who ate natural foods and had none of this processed stuff -- no toxic whatever -- those societies were extremely
healthy. They had virtually no cavities in their mouths, and they were very happy people.
Then he found that within the first generation in places where the Western diet had moved in with jams and sugars and powdered milks and whatever, they started seeing all kinds of diseases happening. Many cavities. Dental arches falling. Dental arches changing. They even found that the hips of women were getting narrower so they could not have
children as easily.
Mike: They found aggressive
mental disorders, too.
Dr. Liers: Oh yes, the mental
disorders and tuberculosis, you can see from that perspective it can happen amazingly fast. I think you can pull back if you start doing all these right things. You know from your own experience, and we know maybe when we were younger we did not do all the things that we know now, and we were not as healthy as we are now. The degree of improvement from one generation to another generation, or within a generation, is a little hard to know because the experiment is' going the wrong way.
It blew me away when we started researching
chlorella for nutrition. There was almost nothing on the Internet. That is how I found your book. Besides Bernard Jensen, you did something, and that was all there was to be found. There was nothing else out there, so to speak.
Now you can do a search for chlorella and find many websites having these long, humongous write-ups about this phenomenal stuff. It is becoming a big thing, which just makes me very happy. There are some signs that we are waking up. Again, going back to what I said earlier, I feel that I am in the forefront.
I need to keep knocking down walls. I need to do better and better things so that the people that come behind me can just pick it up and run with it. Maybe those things that I am doing today are going to be typical in the
health food stores or your supermarket 10 years from now -- coenzyme
vitamins and Kreb's cycle nutrients, and excipients that are not toxins in themselves.
Mike: We live in a time now where there is such a great opportunity to reach out to people. The pace of knowledge acquisition is accelerating. The conversation that we are having right here, over the next year will be read by more than a million living beings. Imagine what that does to the mass consciousness.
These ideas -- the infinite monkey theorem, for example -- become common knowledge just as chlorella has become common knowledge. People are hungry for information about how to be healthier. I think to some degree conventional medicine has really hit its limit in the minds of most people. They now realize that you cannot treat the symptom and be a healthier person. They are ready for real solutions.
Dr. Liers: I think that they passed that a long time ago. To me, when I look at the PDR and all the reactions, I wonder, how can you be putting this in your body? How can you do this? We are a society that has been brainwashed, and we are robots. We have been conditioned in ways so that we do not think for ourselves, and we just kind of go out there and take it. The whole thing for us is to turn that around.
