(NaturalNews) Cryotherapy could be the key to keeping joints, muscles and tissues healthy over time. It works by shrinking the molecules in the body, so that when you emerge from the cold, the molecules expand, increasing the blood flow and easing pain, swelling and inflammation.

Cryotherapy involves exposing yourself to extremely cold, dry air in a sealed room for up to three minutes at a time. In Poland, cryotherapy has become a popular treatment for rejuvenating and revitalizing the body and it is also widely used by eastern European athletes instead of an "ice bath" to aid post-training recovery.

One of the few Britons who have tried whole-body cryotherapy is rugby star Will Green. Green first experienced the cryochamber during trips to the Olympic training camp in Spala, Poland, with his former rugby team two years ago. "We used it twice a day, every day … normally you need a day of rest between training specific muscle groups. The cryo-chamber meant we recovered faster so we could train every day and just keep going and going."

Some experts have recently claimed that there could be also serious medical uses for cryotherapy treatment, saying that the treatment can alleviate the painful symptoms of everything from rheumatism and osteoporosis to multiple sclerosis and from chronic fatigue syndrome and depression. Some experts even suggest cryotherapy as an anti-cellulite and skin-firming treatment.

In general, many cryotherapy fans have had to travel to Eastern Europe to undergo cryotherapy treatment. But now, entrepreneur and former racehorse trainer Charlie Brookes has brought cryotherapy to Britain.

Katherine Kowalska -- a 24-year-old architecture graduate from South West London -- claims that cryotherapy has vastly reduced the rheumatic pain she's suffered in her knees and arms since childhood. She has a series of ten cryotherapy sessions, twice a year and has been using the treatment for about three years.
