Nymox Pharmaceutical's (NASDAQ:NYMX) TobacAlert(TM) product allows for an easy-to-use, cost-effective means of on-site testing for second-hand smoke exposure without the need for instruments, equipment or specialized training. Heavy exposure to second-hand smoke at home nearly tripled the risk that an infant will develop allergic rhinitis by age 1, according to a new study of 633 infants by researchers from the University of Cincinnati and the Children's Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati (Pediatr Allergy Immunol 2006 online early issue). Rhinitis is caused by inflammation of the nasal membranes, leading to symptoms such as nasal congestion, sneezing and a runny or itchy nose.
